Abstract:We establish several new fractal and number theoretical phenomena connected with expansions which are generated by infinite linear iterated function systems. First of all we show that the systems $\Phi$ of cylinders of generalized Lüroth expansions are, generally speaking, not faithful for the Hausdorff dimension calculation. Using Yuval Peres' approach, we prove sufficient conditions for the non-faithfulness of such families of cylinders. On the other hand, rather general sufficient conditions for the faithfulness of such covering systems are also found. As a corollary of our main results, we obtain the non-faithfullness of the family of cylinders generated by the classical Lüroth expansion. Possible infinite entropy of the stochastic vector $Q_\infty$ which determines the metric relations for partitions of the generalized Lüroth expansions, possible non-faithfulness of the family $\Phi(Q_\infty)$ and the absence of general formulae for the calculation of the Hausdorff dimension even for probability measures with independent identically distributed symbols of generalized Lüroth expansions are all facts that do not allow to apply usual probabilistic methods, as well as methods of dynamical systems to study fractal properties of corresponding subsets of non-normal numbers. Despite of the above mentioned difficulties, we develop new approach to the study of subsets of $Q_\infty$-essentially non-normal numbers and prove (without any additional restrictions on the stochastic vector $Q_{\infty}$) that this set is superfractal. This result answers the open problem mentioned in \cite{AKNT2} and completes the metric, dimensional and topological classification of real numbers via the asymptotic behaviour of frequencies their digits in the generalized Lüroth expansion.

Abstract:We introduce a notion of gap sequences for compact sets E subset of R(d), which is a generalization of the gap sequences of compact sets on the real line. We show that if the gap sequences of two fractal sets are not equivalent, then these two sets cannot be Lipschitz equivalent, where the latter fact is usually very hard to verify. Finally, we show that for some typical fractal sets, the gap sequences characterize the upper box dimension.

Abstract:In this paper, the relationship between the s -dimensional Hausdorff measures and the g -measures in R d is discussed, where g is a gauge function which is equivalent to t s and 0 < s ⩽ d. It shows that if s = d , then H g = c 1 H d , C g = c 2 C d and P g = c 3 P d on R d , where constants c 1 , c 2 and c 3 are determined by c_1 = c_2 = liminf_t → 0g(t)/t^d and c_3 = limsup_t → 0g(t)/t^d , where H g , C g and P g are the g -Hausdorff, g -central Hausdorff and g -packing measures on R d respectively. In the case 0 < s < d , some examples are given to show that the above conclusion may fail. However, there is always some s -set F ⊂ R d such that ℋ^g |_F = c_1 ℋ^s |_F ,C^g |_F = c_2 C^s |_F and 𝒫^g |_F = c_3 𝒫^s |_F , where the constants c 1 , c 2 and c 3 depend not only on g and s , but also on F. A criterion is presented for judging whether an s -set has the above properties.

Abstract:In this article, we study two problems concerning the size of the set of finite point configurations generated by a compact set $E\subset \mathbb{R}^d$. The first problem concerns how the Lebesgue measure or the Hausdorff dimension of the finite point configuration set depends on that of $E$. In particular, we show that if a planar set has dimension exceeding $\frac{5}{4}$, then there exists a point $x\in E$ so that for each integer $k\geq2$, the set of "$k$-chains" with initial point at $x$ has positive Lebesgue measure. The second problem is a continuous analogue of the Erdős unit distance problem, which aims to determine the maximum number of times a point configuration with prescribed gaps can appear in $E$. For instance, given a triangle with prescribed sides and given a sufficiently regular planar set $E$ with Hausdorff dimension no less than $\frac{7}{4}$, we show that the dimension of the set of vertices in $E$ forming said triangle does not exceed $3\,\dim_{\mathcal{H}} (E)-3$. In addition to the Euclidean norm, we consider more general distances given by functions satisfying the so-called Phong-Stein rotational curvature condition. We also explore a number of examples to demonstrate the extent to which our results are sharp.

General fractals represented by $\mathcal{F}$-limit sets of compression maps

Abstract:In this article, we provide a simple and systematic way to represent general (inhomogeneous) fractals that may look different at different scales and places. By using set-valued compression maps, we express these general fractals as $\mathcal{F}$-limit sets, which are represented as sequences of points in a fixed parameterization space $M$. By choosing different types of sequences in $M$, we get various types of fractals: from self-simlilar to non self-similar, and from deterministic to random. The computational complexity of producing a general fractal is independent of the sequence in $M$, and as a result, is the same as that of an iterated function system obtained from a constant sequence. In the metric space setting, we also estimate the Hausdorff dimension of limit sets for collections of sets that do not necessarily satisfy the Moran structure conditions. In particular, we introduce the concept ``uniform covering condition" for the study of the lower bound of the Hausdorff dimension of the limit set, and provide sufficient conditions for this condition. Specific examples (Cantor-like sets, Sierpiński-like Triangles, etc.) with the calculations of their corresponding Hausdorff dimensions are also studied.

Abstract:By introducing a novel expression for the Hausdorff and packing measures, denoted as Hφt and Pφt , respectively, in relation to the gauge function defined as φt(x)=h−1(tg(x)) for all positive values of t , we establish a connection between different approaches to defining the exact dimensions of Hausdorff and packing. Furthermore, we define both the upper and lower dimensions of Hausdorff and packing for a Borel probability measure and demonstrate that these dimensions can be represented using an entropy formula. This paper also addresses an intriguing question that has been raised multiple times regarding the structural representation of singular probability measures. We provide an affirmative response to this question by utilizing characteristic measures.

A multifractal formalism for new general fractal measures

Abstract:In this study, we will introduce an innovative and comprehensive multifractal framework, substantiating counterparts to the classical findings in multifractal analysis and We embark on an exploration of the mutual singularity existing between the broader multifractal Hausdorff and packing measures within an expansive framework. An exemplar of this framework involves the application of the " second-order " multifractal formalism to our core results, elucidating a realm of compact subsets within a self-similar fractal structure — a familiar illustration of an infinite-dimensional metric space. Within this context, we provide estimations for both the overall Hausdorff and packing dimensions. It is noteworthy that these outcomes offer novel validations for theorems underpinning the multifractal formalism, rooted in these comprehensive multifractal measures. Furthermore, these findings remain valid even at points q where the multifractal functions governing Hausdorff and packing dimensions diverge. Additionally, we introduce the concepts of lower and upper relative multifractal box dimensions, accompanied by the general Rényi dimensions. A comparison is drawn between these dimensions and the general multifractal Hausdorff dimension, along with the general multifractal pre-packing dimension. Finally, we establish density conclusions pertaining to the multifractal extension of the centered Hausdorff and packing measures. Specifically, we unveil a decomposition theorem akin to Besicovitch's theorem for these measures. This theorem facilitates a division into two components – one characterized as regular and the other as irregular – thus enabling a targeted analysis of each segment. Following this dissection, we seamlessly reintegrate these segments while preserving their intrinsic density attributes. The impetus behind investigating these comprehensive measures arises when a set E holds either a conventional Hausdorff measure of zero or infinity; In such cases, we can identify a function φs that bestows a positive and finite general Hausdorff measure upon the set E , and studies the dimensions of infinitely dimensional sets.

Abstract:Working with sets of infinite -Hausdorff measures can be cumbersome, so simplifying them to sets of positive finite general fractal measures proves to be highly beneficial. This paper aims to demonstrate that the -Hausdorff measures adhere to the property of being a subset of positive and finite measures. Our main result is then applied to establish that the general fractal function dimension is defined as the supremum of the general fractal dimension across all Borel probability measures.

Abstract:We study the construction of exponential frames and Riesz sequences for a class of fractal measures on ℝd generated by infinite convolution of discrete measures using the idea of frame towers and Riesz-sequence towers. The exactness and overcompleteness of the constructed exponential frame or Riesz sequence is completely classified in terms of the cardinality at each level of the tower. Using a version of the solution of the Kadison-Singer problem, known as the Rϵ-conjecture, we show that all these measures contain exponential Riesz sequences of infinite cardinality. Furthermore, when the measure is the middle-third Cantor measure, or more generally for self-similar measures with no-overlap condition, there are always exponential Riesz sequences of maximal possible Beurling dimension.

Abstract:This paper provides a new model to compute the fractal dimension of a subset on a generalized-fractal space. Recall that fractal structures are a perfect place where a new definition of fractal dimension can be given, so we perform a suitable discretization of the Hausdorff theory of fractal dimension. We also find some connections between our definition and the classical ones and also with fractal dimensions I & II (see <a class="link-internal link-http" href="http://arxiv.org/submit/0080421/pdf">http://arxiv.org/submit/0080421/pdf</a>). Therefore, we generalize them and obtain an easy method in order to calculate the fractal dimension of strict self-similar sets which are not required to verify the open set condition.

Abstract:We show that fractal percolation sets in $\mathbb{R}^{d}$ almost surely intersect every hyperplane absolutely winning (HAW) set with full Hausdorff dimension. In particular, if $E\subset\mathbb{R}^{d}$ is a realization of a fractal percolation process, then almost surely (conditioned on $E\neq\emptyset$), for every countable collection $\left(f_{i}\right)_{i\in\mathbb{N}}$ of $C^{1}$ diffeomorphisms of $\mathbb{R}^{d}$, $\dim_{H}\left(E\cap\left(\bigcap_{i\in\mathbb{N}}f_{i}\left(\text{BA}_{d}\right)\right)\right)=\dim_{H}\left(E\right)$, where $\text{BA}_{d}$ is the set of badly approximable vectors in $\mathbb{R}^{d}$. We show this by proving that $E$ almost surely contains hyperplane diffuse subsets which are Ahlfors-regular with dimensions arbitrarily close to $\dim_{H}\left(E\right)$. We achieve this by analyzing Galton-Watson trees and showing that they almost surely contain appropriate subtrees whose projections to $\mathbb{R}^{d}$ yield the aforementioned subsets of $E$. This method allows us to obtain a more general result by projecting the Galton-Watson trees against any similarity IFS whose attractor is not contained in a single affine hyperplane. Thus our general result relates to a broader class of random fractals than fractal percolation.

Abstract:Fractal measures of images of continuous maps from the set of p-adic numbers Qp into complex plane C are analyzed. Examples of "anomalous" fractals, i.e. the sets where the D-dimensional Hausdorff measures (HM) are trivial, i.e. either zero, or sigma-infinite (D is the Hausdorff dimension (HD) of this set) are presented. Using the Caratheodory construction, the generalized scale-covariant HM (GHM) being non-trivial on such fractals are constructed. In particular, we present an example of 0-fractal, the continuum with HD=0 and nontrivial GHM invariant w.r.t. the group of all diffeomorphisms C. For conformal transformations of domains in R^n, the formula for the change of variables for GHM is obtained. The family of continuous maps Qp in C continuously dependent on "complex dimension" d in C is obtained. This family is such that: 1) if d=2(1), then the image of Qp is C (real axis in C); 2) the fractal measures coincide with the images of the Haar measure in Qp, and at d=2(1) they also coincide with the flat (linear) Lebesgue measure; 3) integrals of entire functions over the fractal measures of images for any compact set in Qp are holomorphic in d, similarly to the dimensional regularization method in QFT.

Abstract:Let A be a limsup random fractal with indices γ1,γ2 and δ on [0,1]d . We determine the hitting probability P(A∩G) for any analytic set G with the condition (⋆):dimH(G)>γ2+δ , where dimH denotes the Hausdorff dimension. This extends the correspondence of Khoshnevisan et al. 1 by relaxing the condition that the probability Pn of choosing each dyadic hyper-cube is homogeneous and limn→∞log2Pnn exists. We also present some counterexamples to show the Hausdorff dimension in condition (⋆) cannot be replaced by the packing dimension.

Abstract:We present a technique to measure the fractal dimension of the set of points (t, f(t)) forming the graph of a function f defined on the unit interval. First we apply it to a fractional Brownian function [1] which has a property of self-similarity for all scales, and we can get the stable and precise fractal dimension. This technique is also applied to the observational data of natural phenomena. It does not show self-similarity all over the scale but has a different self-similarity across the characteristic time scale. The present method gives us a stable characteristic time scale as well as the fractal dimension.

Abstract:Let $S$ be a Sierpinski-like fractal with the compression ratio $\frac{1}{3}$, $N$ be the set of all the basic triangles to generate $S$. In this paper, by the mass distribution principle, the exact value of the Hausdorff measure of $S$, $H(S)=1$, is obtained, and the fact that the Hausdorff measure of $S$ can be determined by the net measure $H_N(S)$ is shown, and the best coverings of $S$ that are nontrivial are also obtained.
