Abstract:Anthocyanins are the main determinants of flower colors.The biosynthesis pathway of anthocyanins is one of the most extensively studied plant secondary metabolism.By the catalyzed of F3H,F3'H and F3'5'H,the biosynthesis of anthocyanins branched three pathways to form pelargonidin(orange to brick red),cyanidin(pink to red)and delphinidin(purple to blue)separately.DFR,F3'H and F3'5'H are the most important genes for introducing new metabolic branches by genetic transformation to plants that lack some kinds of flower pigments.The research on biosynthesis of anthocyanins has been focused on the transcriptional regulation of structural genes in latest years.The transcriptional factors involved in biosynthesis of anthocyanins mainly include two kinds of protein families-bHLH and R2R3-MYB.The basic model of transcriptional regulation of biosynthesis of anthocyanins,including the interaction between bHLH and R2R3-MYB factors and the recognizing and binding of these factors to the cis-elements of structural genes,has been set up.Additionally,the study on the WD40s and phytochromes that located upstream of bHLH and R2R3-MYB factors in the transcriptional regulation system originates the research of the whole signal pathway from the stimulation of environmental factors to biosynthesis of anthocyanins.

Abstract:The anthocyanin biosynthesis pathway is a little complex with branches responsible for the synthesis of a variety of metabolites. In fruit tree crops, during the past decade, many structural genes encoding enzymes in the anthocyanin biosynthetic pathway and various regulatory genes encoding transcription factors that regulate the expression of structural genes have been cloned and then functionally characterized in detail. In general, the structural genes involved in anthocyanin synthesis were coordinately expressed and their levels of expression were positively related to the degree of anthocyanin concentration; while, the coordinated expression pattern is striking a diverse among fruit crop species. Regulatory genes regulate spatiotemporally the structural genes and then form complicated metabolic network. Anthocyanin biosynthesis can be affected by external and internal factors, such as light, UV-B, low temperature and ABA through changes in expression of structural and regulatory genes.

Abstract:Anthocyanins, synthesized via the flavonoid pathway, are a class of crucial phenolic compounds which are fundamentally responsible for the red color of grapes and wines. As the most important natural colorants in grapes and their products, anthocyanins are also widely studied for their numerous beneficial effects on human health. In recent years, the biosynthetic pathway of anthocyanins in grapes has been thoroughly investigated. Their intracellular transportation and accumulation have also been further clarified. Additionally, the genetic mechanism regulating their biosynthesis and the phytohormone influences on them are better understood. Furthermore, due to their importance in the quality of wine grapes, the effects of the environmental factors and viticulture practices on anthocyanin accumulation are being investigated increasingly. The present paper summarizes both the basic information and the most recent advances in the study of the anthocyanin biosynthesis in red grapes, emphasizing their gene structure, the transcriptional factors and the diverse exterior regulation factors.

Abstract:The metabolic pathway of anthocyanin including synthesis, modification, transportation and sequestration were described. The molecular regulating mechanism of the anthocyanin pathway was discussed on both transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels. Particular attention was paid to the functions of various transcription factors. The effects of external factors, such as illumination, UV-A, UV-B, low-temperature, water depletion, sugar and other biotic stresses on the accumulation of anthocyanin were summarized. A model was proposed to explain the regulating mechanism of anthocyanin pathway, and a prospect of anthocyanin research was depicted.

Abstract:Anthocyanins contribute to the quality and flavour of fruits. They are produced through the phenylpropanoid pathway, which is regulated by specific key genes that have been identified in many species. The dominant anthocyanin forms are reversibly transformed at different pH states, thus forming different colours in aqueous solutions. In plants, anthocyanins are controlled by specific factors of the biosynthetic pathway: light, temperature, phytohormones and transcription factors. Although great progress in research on anthocyanin structures and the regulation of anthocyanin biosynthesis has been made, the molecular regulatory mechanisms of anthocyanin biosynthesis in different plants remain less clear. In addition, the co-regulation of anthocyanin biosynthesis is poorly understood. In this review, we summarise previous findings on anthocyanin biosynthesis, including the biochemical and biological features of anthocyanins; differences in anthocyanin biosynthesis among fruit species, i.e., apple, red pear, and the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana; and the developmental and environmental regulation of anthocyanin accumulation. This review reveals the molecular mechanisms underlying anthocyanin biosynthesis in different plant species and provides valuable information for the development of anthocyanin-rich red-skinned and red-fleshed apple and pear varieties.

Abstract:Anthocyanins are a class of important flavonoid compounds widely present in plants, and play important roles in plant growth, metabolism and stress responses. In the process of growth and development, anthocyanin renders the flowers and fruits of plants displaying rich colors, attracts insect pollination and animal feeding, thereby facilitating seed spreading and dissemination. In metabolic stress, anthocyanin can resist low temperature, drought, fungal infection, ultraviolet damage, insect pests and other stress-resistant processes. The anthocyanin biosynthesis is co-regulated by related structural genes as well as transcription factor genes. Recent studies have showed that the anthocyanin biosynthesis-related genes in plants are epigenetically regulated, thus affecting the synthesis of anthocyanin glycosides. Epigenetics is one of the hot topics in the field of biological sciences. In this review, we summarize the advances of epigenetic modifications in anthocyanin biosynthesis and the application of genome editing in epigenetics, thereby providing new ideas for flower color breeding improvement by epigenetic regulation.

Abstract:This review summarizes the molecular mechanisms underlying the roles of abscisic acid,jasmonic acid,ethylene,auxin,cytokinin,brassinolide,gibberellin and strigolactone in regulating the anthocyanin accumulation in the fruit trees based on gene expression regulation of the anthocyanin biosynthesis pathway.The review will provide a theoretic basis for enriching the fundamental researches of anthocyanin regulation and biosynthesis in fruit trees,understanding the critical signal transduction pathways of plant hormones,and rationally applying plant hormones to regulate fruits development.The information provides references for the further study of the nthocyanin metabolic pathways in different types of fruit trees.

Abstract:Anthocyanins are widely distributed water-soluble pigments that not only give the fruit colorful appearances, but also are important sources of natural edible pigments. In recent years, the interest on anthocyanins of solanaceous vegetables is increasing. This paper summarized the structure of anthocyanins and its biosynthetic pathway, the structural genes and regulatory genes involved in the biosynthesis of anthocyanins in solanaceous vegetables, as well as the environmental factors affecting the biosynthesis. This review may help clarify the synthesis and regulation mechanism of anthocyanins in solanaceous vegetables and make better use of anthocyanins for quality breeding of fruit colors.

Abstract:Anthocyanins are biosynthesized through a series of enzymes with the transcript levels of their encoding genes commonly regulated by the MBW transcription complex containing MYB,bHLH and WD40 transcription factors. The transcriptional regulation of anthocyanin biosynthesis has been studied in model plants,such as maize,Arabidopsis and petunia,since 30 years ago,and great progresses have been made in fleshy fruits as well in recent years. After briefly introducing general knowledge on classes,distribution and functions of anthocyanins,the characteristics and roles of MYB,bHLH and WD40 TFs in the regulation of anthocyanin biosynthesis,as well as the advances in mechanisms involved for transcriptional regulation of anthocyanin biosynthesis by MYB-bHLH-WD40 transcription complex in fleshy fruits were reviewed.

Abstract:Anthocyanin accumulation in plants plays important roles in plant growth and development, as well as the response to environmental stresses. Anthocyanins have antioxidant properties and play an important role in maintaining the reactive oxygen species (ROS) homeostasis in plant cells. Furthermore, anthocyanins also act as a "sunscreen", reducing the damage caused by ultraviolet radiation under high-light conditions. The biosynthesis of anthocyanin in plants is mainly regulated by an MYB-bHLH-WD40 (MBW) complex. In recent years, many new regulators in different signals involved in anthocyanin biosynthesis were identified. This review focuses on the regulation network mediated by different environmental factors (such as light, salinity, drought, and cold stresses) and phytohormones (such as jasmonate, abscisic acid, salicylic acid, ethylene, brassinosteroid, strigolactone, cytokinin, and auxin). We also discuss the potential application value of anthocyanin in agriculture, horticulture, and the food industry.

Abstract:Anthocyanins act as polyphenolic pigment that is ubiquitously found in plants. Anthocyanins play a role not only in health-promoting as an antioxidant, but also in protection against all kinds of abiotic and biotic stresses. Most recent studies have found that MYB transcription factors (MYB TFs) could positively or negatively regulate anthocyanin biosynthesis. Understanding the roles of MYB TFs is essential in elucidating how MYB TFs regulate the accumulation of anthocyanin. In the review, we summarized the signaling pathways medicated by MYB TFs during anthocyanin biosynthesis including jasmonic acid (JA) signaling pathway, cytokinins (CKs) signaling pathway, temperature-induced, light signal, 26S proteasome pathway, NAC TFs, and bHLH TFs. Moreover, structural and regulator genes induced by MYB TFs, target genes bound and activated or suppressed by MYB TFs, and crosstalk between MYB TFs and other proteins, were found to be vitally important in the regulation of anthocyanin biosynthesis. In this study, we focus on the recent knowledge concerning the regulator signaling and mechanism of MYB TFs on anthocyanin biosynthesis, covering the signaling pathway, genes expression, and target genes and protein expression.

Abstract:Anthocyanins are the phenolic compounds responsible for coloring pigments in fruits and vegetables. Anthocyanins offer a wide range of health benefits to human health. Their scope has expanded dramatically in the past decade, making anthocyanin control, influx, and outflow regulation fascinating for many researchers. The main culprit is anthocyanin stability and concentration form, which demands novel ways because these are critical in the food industry. This review aims to examine anthocyanin synthesis via triggering transcription genes that code for anthocyanin-producing enzymes. The balance between production and breakdown determines anthocyanin accumulation. Thus, increasing the anthocyanin content in food requires the stability of molecules in the vacuolar lumen, the pigment fading process, and a better understanding of the mechanism. The promising option is biosynthesis by metabolically engineered microorganisms with a lot of success. This study aims to look into and evaluate the existing literature on anthocyanin production, namely the biosynthesis of anthocyanin pathway genes, production by microbial cell factories, and the regulatory factors that can modulate the production of anthocyanins. Abstract:Anthocyanin exists in the vacuoles of some leaves,flowers,fruits,seed epidermis and seed coat and is a water-soluble pigment that causes these organs showing color from red to black and others.The process of anthocyanin synthesis not only be regulated by gene,but also be affected by many other different factors.First,light regulates related enzyme gene expression directly or indirectly by signal transduction pathway.Second,sugar often coordinated controls pigment in flower altogether with light.Finally,hormone is also an important factor affecting the synthesis of anthocyanin.It often influences the metabolic process and gene expression in plants to affect anthocyanin synthesis and accumulation.Research progress in recent 20 years was also reviewed.

Abstract:Anthocyanin is a water-soluble pigment, is a class of secondary metabolites, and it belongs to the flavonoid polyphenols. The peel is purple, which caused by the anthocyanin accumulation, so the purple pepper is loved by more and more consumers by high nutritional value and health effects. With the deepening of research about anthocyanin biosynthetic pathways in plants, some research of this aspect are carried out in the purple pepper. This paper mainly discuss the biosynthetic pathway of anthocyanins in purple pepper, and the research progress of the transcription factors that involved in the regulation and the effects of the external environment, which is helpful to have a better understanding of the mechanism of anthocyanin biosynthesis and provide a theoretical reference for the breeding of purple pepper varieties.
