Effect of Mild Hypothermia Therapy on ICP and Prognosis in Patients with Severe Craniocerebral Injuries

Abstract:Objective To study the effect of mild hypothermic therapy on ICP and prognosis in patients with severe craniocerebral injuries.Methods 100 cases of severe craniocerebral injuries were randomly divided into the mild hypothermic group (50 cases) and the control group ( 50 cases ).Hypothermia was induced within 12 hours of injury.Rewarming began5～7 days after the rectal temperature ( RT ) reached 32～35℃.The rectal temperature of patients in the control group induced to 36.5～37℃.The intracranial pressure (ICP)was measured .According to Glasgow outcome scale (GOS),the prognosis of the patients was evaluated.Results ICP was significantly decreased and the prognosis of the patients was improved in mild hypothemic group (P＜0.05 ).Con- clusion Mild hypothermia is safe and effective for preventing brain damage of the patients with severe head in- jury.
