Abstract:In this paper, we introduce the concepts of generalized continuous posets and present topological dualities for them. Moreover, we show that the category of generalized continuous posets and continuous morphisms is dually equivalent to the category of F-spaces and F-morphisms. In particular, some special cases are obtained, such as the topological representations for posets, domains, continuous lattices and join-semilattices.

Regular and semi-regular representations of groups by posets

Abstract:By a result of Babai, with finitely many exceptions, every group $G$ admits a semi-regular poset representation with three orbits, that is, a poset $P$ with automorphism group $\textrm{Aut}(P) \simeq G$ such that the action of $\textrm{Aut}(P)$ on the underlying set is free and with three orbits. Among finite groups, only the trivial group and $\mathbb{Z}_2$ have a regular poset representation (i.e. semi-regular with one orbit), however many infinite groups admit such a representation. In this paper we study non-necessarily finite groups which have a regular representation or a semi-regular representation with two orbits. We prove that if $G$ admits a Cayley graph which is locally the Cayley graph of a free group, then it has a semi-regular representation of height 1 with two orbits. In this case we will see that any extension of the integers by $G$ admits a regular representation. Applications are given to finite simple groups, hyperbolic groups, random groups and indicable groups.

The Haar graph $\mathrm{Haar}(R,S)$ of $R$ with connection set $S$ is the graph having vertex set $R\times\{-1,1\}$, where two distinct vertices $(x,-1)$ and $(y,1)$ are declared to be adjacent if and only if $yx^{-1}\in S$. The name Haar graph was coined by Tomaž Pisanski in one of the first investigations on this class of graphs.

Abstract:In this paper we consider representations of certain combinatorial categories, including the poset $\D$ of positive integers and division, the Young lattice $\mathscr{Y}$ of partitions of finite sets, the opposite category of the orbit category $\mathscr{Z}$ of $(\mathbb{Z}, +)$ with respect to nontrivial subgroups, and the category $\mathscr{CI}$ of finite cyclic groups and injective homomorphisms. We describe explicit upper bounds for homological degrees of their representations, and deduce that finitely presented representations (resp., representations presented in finite degrees) over a field form abelian subcategories of the representation categories. We also give an explicit description for the category of sheaves over the ringed atomic site $(\mathscr{Z}, \, J_{at}, \, \underline{\mathbb{C}})$, and show that irreducible sheaves are parameterized by primitive roots of the unit.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the characterizations of pomonoids over which all S-posets are principally weakly flat. It is shown that all S-posets are principally weakly flat if and only if S is a regular pomonoid. This result gives an answer to the problem of Bulman-Fleming, S., D. Gutermuth, A. Gilmour, and M. Abstract:Let G be one of the classical groups GL(n), U(n), O(n) or Sp(2n), over a nonarchimedean local field of characteristic zero. It is well known that the contragredient of an irreducible admissible smooth representation of G is isomorphic to a twist of it by an automorphism of G. We prove that similar results hold for double covers of G that occur in the study of local theta correspondences.

The three last ones are set-theoretical and can be seen as a simplified version of the first, the same way the NAP operad behaves with respect to the pre-Lie operad. Abstract:We prove that every finite group $G$ can be realized as the automorphism group of a poset with $4|G|$ points. We also provide bounds for the minimum number of points of a poset with cyclic automorphism group of a given prime power order.

Abstract:We introduce an infinitesimal Hopf algebra of planar trees, generalising the construction of the non-commutative Connes-Kreimer Hopf algebra. A non-degenerate pairing and a dual basis are defined, and a combinatorial interpretation of the pairing in terms of orders on the vertices of planar forests is given. Moreover, the coproduct and the pairing can also be described with the help of a partial order on the set of planar forests, making it isomorphic to the Tamari poset. As a corollary, the dual basis can be computed with a Möbius inversion.

In particular, the discrete and classical homotopy groups of finite posets are always isomorphic. Moreover, this discrete homology theory is related to the discrete homotopy theory through a discrete analogue of the Hurewicz map.

Posets arising from decompositions of objects in a monoidal category

Abstract:Given a symmetric monoidal category $C$ with product $\sqcup$, where the neutral element for the product is an initial object, we consider the poset of $\sqcup$-complemented subobjects of a given object $X$. When this poset has finite height, we define decompositions and partial decompositions of $X$ which are coherent with $\sqcup$, and order them by refinement. From these posets, we define complexes of frames and partial bases, augmented Bergman complexes and related ordered versions. We propose a unified approach to the study of their combinatorics and homotopy type, establishing various properties and relations between them. Via explicit homotopy formulas, we will be able to transfer structural properties, such as Cohen-Macaulayness.

Realisations of posets and tameness

Abstract:We introduce a construction called realisation which transforms posets into posets. We show that realisations share several key features with upper semilattices. For example, we define local dimensions of points in a poset and show that these numbers for realisations behave in a similar way as they do for upper semilattices. Furthermore, similarly to upper semilattices, realisations have well-behaved discrete approximations which are suitable for capturing homological properties of functors indexed by them. These discretisations are convenient and effective for describing tameness of functors. Homotopical and homological properties of tame functors, particularly those indexed by realisations, are discussed, with emphasis on the use of Koszul complexes to compute Betti diagrams of minimal free resolutions of tame functors indexed by upper semilattices and realisations.

Both classes contain intervals of rank k+1 whose cd-index is the sum over all cd-monomials w of degree k and the coefficient of the monomial w is r to the power of the number of d's in w. We also show that the order complexes of every interval in the first class are homeomorphic to spheres.

Abstract:Given $s,t\in\mathbb{N}$, a complete bipartite poset $\mathcal{K}_{s,t}$ is a poset, whose Hasse diagram consists of $s$ pairwise incomparable vertices in the upper layer and $t$ pairwise incomparable vertices in the lower layer, such that every vertex in the upper layer is larger than all vertices in the lower layer. A family $\mathcal{F}\subseteq2^{[n]}$ is called induced $\mathcal{K}_{s,t}$-saturated if $(\mathcal{F},\subseteq)$ contains no induced copy of $\mathcal{K}_{s,t}$, whereas adding any set from $2^{[n]}\backslash\mathcal{F}$ to $\mathcal{F}$ creates an induced $\mathcal{K}_{s,t}$. Let $\mathrm{sat}^{*}(n,\mathcal{K}_{s,t})$ denote the smallest size of an induced $\mathcal{K}_{s,t}$-saturated family $\mathcal{F}\subseteq2^{[n]}$. We show that $\mathrm{sat}^{*}(n,\mathcal{K}_{s,t})=O(n)$ for all fixed $s,t\in\mathbb{N}$. Moreover, we prove a linear lower bound on $\mathrm{sat}^{*}(n,\mathcal{P})$ for a large class of posets $\mathcal{P}$, particularly for $\mathcal{K}_{s,2}$ with $s\in\mathbb{N}$.

Abstract:For a finite non-empty set $X$, let $\mathfrak{P}(X)$ denote the set of all posets with carrier $X$, ordered by inclusion of their partial order relations. We investigate properties of posets $P \in \mathfrak{P}(X)$ for which no lower cover or no upper cover in $\mathfrak{P}(X)$ has the fixed point property. We derive two conditions, one of them sufficient for that no lower cover of $P$ has the fixed point property, the other one sufficient for that no upper cover of $P$ has the fixed point property, and we apply these results on several types of posets.

Abstract:Alon and Shapira proved that every monotone class (closed under taking subgraphs) of undirected graphs is strongly testable, that is, under the promise that a given graph is either in the class or $\varepsilon$-far from it, there is a test using a constant number of samples (depending on $\varepsilon$ only) that rejects every graph not in the class with probability at least one half, and always accepts a graph in the class. However, their bound on the number of samples is quite large since they heavily rely on Szemerédi's regularity lemma. We study the case of posets and show that every monotone class of posets is easily testable, that is, a polynomial (of $\varepsilon^{-1}$) number of samples is sufficient. We achieve this via proving a polynomial removal lemma for posets. We give a simple classification: for every monotone class of posets, there is an $h$ such that the class is indistinguishable (every large enough poset in one class is $\varepsilon$-close to a poset in the other class) from the class of $C_h$-free posets, where $C_h$ denotes the chain with $h$ elements. This allows us to test every monotone class of posets using $O(\varepsilon^{-1})$ samples. The test has a two-sided error, but it is almost complete: the probability of refuting a poset in the class is polynomially small in the size of the poset. The analogous results hold for comparability graphs, too.
