Abstract:Using the 3A data of chlorophyll-a(chl-a) from the MODIS and SeaWiFS during 2000-2006,the authors analyzed the effects of typhoon on the chl-a concentration in the northwestern Pacific Ocean. The results show that the maximum increase of chl-a concentration caused by typhoon is on average 2.385 times that without typhoon, and is over 10 times occasionally, the time by which the chl-a concentration reaches its maximum on average delays by 5.94 days thanks to typhoon. The maximum chl-a concentration during typhoon has a linear relation with that without typhoon, and the correlation coefficient is as high as 0.889.On the other hand, the chl-a concentration has a negative power relationship with the average depth of the corresponding sea area, and the correlation coefficient is 0.87.The maximum increment of the chl-a concentration after typhoon also has a negative power relationship with the average depth of the corresponding sea area, but the correlation coefficient is 0.75,slightly smaller than during typhoon.
