Abstract:Objective To evaluate the joint of two methods predicting the reliability of visual acuity after cataract surgery and clinical application. Methods Retinometer and flash electroretinogram (F-ERG) were used to evaluate the visual function after cataract surgery in 109 cases(117eyes). The regressive analyses between the post-operative best corrected visual acuity(BCVA) and each of the following results. The potential visual acuity (PVA) and F-ERG were performed, respectively. Results The obvious linear-relationship was shown between PVA and BCVA (r=0.587) in the patients with partial opaque lenses. But no obvious linear-relationship was shown between PVA and BCVA (r=0.037) in the patients with near complete/complete opaque lenses. The value of F-ERG b wave that was 50%~100% of the normal value and BCVA≥0.5 was also 68.47%. Its value was below the half of the normal value, the post-operative BCVA was under 0.5, almostly. Conclusion Retinometer can be used to predict the visual acuity after cataract surgery in the patients with partial opaque lenses accurately, but there was deviation in the patients with near complete/complete opaque lenses. The result of F-ERG is not affected by the degree of opaque lenses, so it could assess the functional situation of retina, therefore the joint of two methods can predict the recovery of visual function after cataract surgery accurately.
