Abstract:Dithieno[3,2-b:2',3'-d]thiophene (DTT) derivative contains three annulated thiophene rings, which have attracted great attention in the field of materials due to its planar and conjugated molecular, structural rigidity, and increased solubility. Herein, the one-step modular construction of a series of structurally well-defined 2,6-disubstituted dithieno[3,2-b:2',3'-d]thiophenes (2,6-DTT) involves Pd/Cu(I)-catalyzed Sonogashira coupling and LiNH2-mediated ring-closing reaction with element sulfur was reported. The method allows the selective and straightforward introduction of different aryl substitution into DTT without otherwise tedious separation and purification processes. The preliminary study of the thermal and photophysical properties demonstrated that the introduction of substituent in phenyl has great impact for the parent molecule, which enable this protocol to synthesis high-performance 2,6-DTT through the different alkynes.

Abstract:A mild and efficient method for the synthesis of 2,5-disubstituted chalcogenophenes is reported. This method involves two steps of reactions via one-pot approach by employing commercially available and cost-effective alkynes and element chalcogen. Further, by using LiNH2 as the promoter and DMSO/EtOH as the solvent, Cu-catalyzed Glaser coupling-cycloaddition processes are dramatically enhanced that a diverse range of chalcogenophenes can be obtained in good to excellent yields under mild conditions. Controlled experiments show that trisulfur radical anion (S3 & sdot;-) is the key intermediate and DMSO/EtOH serves as the hydrogen source, while alcohol may facilitate the transition state. The mild and highly efficient constructions of 2,5-disubstitued thiophenes, selenophenes and tellurophenes are achieved by using a one-pot, two-step protocol that combine Cu-catalyzed Glaser coupling with LiNH2-mediated cycloaddition. And the DMSO/EtOH mixture solvent is found to short the reaction time and improve the reaction yield by promoting the production of S3 & sdot;- and stabilizing the transition state.image

Abstract:An efficient synthetic approach to variously substituted 2,3-dihydrothiophenes has been developed. The reaction proceeded by copper-catalyzed tandem S-alkylation and S-alkenylation of sodium sulfide with 1,4-diiodobut-1-enes to afford the corresponding 2,3-dihydrothiophene derivatives in high yields. The 2,3-dihydrothiophenes could bear alkyl, aryl as well as heteroaryl substituents. The resulted 2,3-dihydrothiophenes could be further transferred into the corresponding thiophenes by oxidation.

Abstract:A highly regioselective iodosulfonylation of allenes in the presence of CuI and 1,10-phenanthroline has been developed for the synthesis of various useful ( E)-α-iodomethyl vinylsulfones in moderate to excellent yields. This practical reaction is fast, operationally simple, and in particular, proceeds under very mild conditions to afford the target products with high regio- and stereoselectivity. The selectivity was illustrated by a conceptual DFT analysis.

Abstract:Due to the high reactivity and versatility of benzenesulfonothioates, significant advancements have been made in constructing C-S bonds. However, there are certain limitations in the synthesis of S-thiosulfonates and SS-thiosulfonates, especially when dealing with substantial steric hindrance, which poses a significant challenge. Herein, we present an innovative approach for assembling unsymmetric S-thiosulfonates and unsymmetric SS-thiosulfonates through the integration of dual copper/photoredox catalysis. Moreover, we also realized the one-pot strategy by directly using carboxylic acids as raw materials by in-situ activation of them to access S-thiosulfonates and SS-thiosulfonates without further purification and presynthesis of NHPI esters. The envisaged synthesis and utilization of these reagents are poised to pioneer an innovative pathway for fabricating a versatile spectrum of mono-, di-, and polysulfide compounds. Furthermore, they introduce a class of potent sulfenylating reagents, empowering the synthesis of intricate unsymmetrical disulfides that were previously challenging to access.

Abstract:A Lewis acid-catalyzed tandem nucleophilic addition/C-S cleavage/intramolecular annulation of ketene 1,3-dithietanes with aldehydes and photo-induced cycloaddition of ketene 1,3-dithietanes with alkynes were developed in this work. The readily available ketene 1,3-dithietanes were demonstrated as a promising sulfur-containing synthon for the facile construction of the thiophene ring. Moreover, these processes feature simple operation, good functional tolerance and mild reaction conditions. Also, the possible mechanisms are proposed in this study.

Abstract:A novel copper-catalyzed cascade synthesis of thiazolidine-2-thiones from N-(2-bromoallyl) amines and carbon disulfide has been developed. Abstract:We describe a new method for the stereoselective synthesis of (Z)-1,2-dithio-1-alkenes via copper-catalyzed cross-coupling of (Z)-2-bromovinyl sulfides and thiols. The desired products are obtained in good to excellent yields. The double bond geometry of the starting (Z)-2-bromovinyl sulfides is retained under these reaction conditions.

Abstract:Sulfilimines are valuable compounds in both organic synthesis and pharmaceuticals. In this study, we present a copper-catalyzed sulfur alkylation of sulfenamides with N-sulfonylhydrazones. In contrast to prior findings, hydrazones derived from aldehydes act as donor-type carbene precursors, effectively engaging in coupling with sulfenamides via a copper catalyst, demonstrating exclusive S selectivity. The utility of the protocol was highlighted in the rapid access to a wide range of sulfoximine derivatives.

Abstract:Alkenyl sulfides have gained increasing prominence in medicinal chemistry and materials. Hydrothiolation of alkynes for the diverse synthesis of alkenyl sulfides is an appealing method. Herein, we report a cobalt-catalyzed Markovnikov hydromethylthiolation of alkynes to afford branched alkenyl methylsulfanes with good yields and high regioselectivity. This method also enables the diverse synthesis of branched alkenyl sulfides. The reaction shows good functional group tolerance and could be scaled up. The mechanistic studies including control experiments, deuterium-labeling experiments, and Hammett plot indicated alkynes insertion followed by electrophilic thiolation pathway.

Abstract:A copper-catalyzed umpolung of N-2,2,2-trifluoroethylisatin ketimines for the enantioselective 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition with benzo[b]thiophene sulfones was developed. Using a catalyst system consisting of an (S,Sp)-tBu-Phosferrox ligand, Cu(OTf)2, and Cs2CO3, a range of pentacyclic spirooxindoles containing pyrrolidine and benzo[b]sulfolane subunits were obtained in high efficiency with excellent regio-, diastereo-, and enantioselectivites under mild conditions. The practicality and versatility of the reaction were also demonstrated.

Abstract:A bifunctional squaramide‐catalyzed enantioselective oxidation of sulfides is developed using cumene hydroperoxide as the terminal oxidant, which allows one to achieve a kinetic resolution of 2‐hydroxy‐2ʹ‐alkylthio‐1,1ʹ‐biaryls. This approach provides a variety of axially chiral thioethers and sulfoxides, which can be readily converted into valuable axially chiral compounds and sulfur‐containing ligands. Axially chiral thioethers and sulfoxides emerge as two pivotal classes of ligands and organocatalysts, which have remarkable features in the stereoinduction of various asymmetric transformations. However, the lack of easy methods to access such molecules with diverse structures has hampered their broader utilization. Herein, an oxidative kinetic resolution for sulfides using a chiral bifunctional squaramide as the catalyst with cumene hydroperoxide as the terminal oxidant is established. This asymmetric approach provides a variety of axially chiral thioethers as well as sulfoxides bearing both axial and central chirality, with excellent diastereo‐ and enantioselectivities. This catalytic system also successfully extends to the kinetic resolution of benzothiophene‐based sulfides. Preliminary mechanism investigation indicates that the multiple hydrogen bonding interactions between the bifunctional squaramide catalyst and substrates play a crucial role in determining the enantioselectivity and reactivity.

Abstract:A protocol was described for obtaining a variety of substituted thiophenes with functional potential via metal-free dehydration and sulfur cyclization of alkynols with elemental sulfur (S-8) or EtOCS2K in moderate-to-good yields. The method provides the base-free generation of a trisulfur radical anion (S-3(center dot-)) and its addition to alkynes as an initiator. This research broadens the applications of S-3(center dot-) in the synthesis of sulfur-containing heterocycles.

Abstract:Pyridinium 1,4-zwitterionic thiolates were applied to a formal [3+2] annulation reaction with modified activated alkynes, affording various tetrasubstituted thiophenes with aryl, alkenyl, alkyl or silyl group at the special position. The structural modification of alkyne substrates enabled the synthesis of diverse thiophenes to be achieved using the pyridinium 1,4-zwitterionic thiolates as the sulfur-containing build-ing blocks. This approach is metal-free and catalyst-free.

Abstract:Herein, a copper-catalyzed 2,2,2-trifluoroethylthiolation reaction of aryl bromides and iodides with elemental sulfur, and 1,1,1-trifluoro-2-iodoethane is described. The reaction showed excellent functional group tolerance and allowed the synthesis of various substituted aryl 2,2,2-trifluoroethyl thioethers with good to excellent yields. This transformation constitutes a one-pot synthesis of 2,2,2-trifluoroethylthiolated compounds from inexpensive, readily available starting materials. Utility of the protocol was further demonstrated in the late-stage synthesis of the pirfenidone derivative. The copper thiolate species were prepared and proposed as key intermediates in the catalytic cycle.
