Women's Socio-economic Characteristic and Fertility Decision-making in China

Abstract:Women's socio-economic characteristics,marital statuses,family structures,etc.play an important role in the family fertility decision-making.The findings and analyses of the family micro-data collected in the 2006 China Health Nutrition Sur-vey(CHNS) show that women's socio-economic characteristics such as educational level,social status,etc.are markedly cor-relative with their fertility rate.Other indicators that reveal family structures such as the extent of husbands' involvement in work,age gaps between husbands and wives,etc.also have a significant impact on their fertility rate.In addition,comparative analyses of urban and rural areas illustrate that the elevation of women's educational level has a bigger impact on their fertility rate in rural areas than in urban areas.
