The Impacts of Urban Spatial Form on Trip Generation

Abstract:During the last two decades,there are amount of researches on relationship between urban form and travel demand around the developed countries.Many methods and models in this field have been developed,as well as policies application.There are,however,less studies with respect that how the urban form impact the travel demand in the developing countries.As one of the important part of city system,city spatial form has huge effect on travel behavior that has been proved in many cities.In order to deeply understand the potential rule between urban form and travel demand in China,four indexes are put forword to estimate it in this paper based on description of urban form,namely urban spatial shape,landuse mix entropy,population density and accessibility.Several cities of China with different terrain are chosen in this study and spatial analysis methods of GIS are used.The impacts of these indexes on the trip generation are analyzed respectively,some conclusions about the interaction of urban spatial form and travel demand are drawn.In fact it is very helpful for urban planning and transportation planning that quantitative methods are used to analysis the operational mechanism between urban form and travel demand in the developing countries.
