On the Evolution and the Social-political Causes of the Official Institute of Legal Education from Weijin to Song Dynasty

Abstract:The Law School (luxue), as the official institute of law education, existed from the Three Kingdoms (220-230) to the Song dynasty (960-1279). Its abolition was not the result of the invasion of the northern nations. Luxue underwent the process from birth to death when the government changed its standard of the common civil servants’ knowledge of the law, together with government’s higher demand of the legal quality to the common civil officials. The abolition of luxue is not because of the limited law knowledge of the civil officials but the result of the government’s higher demand of the legal quality to the common civil officials, against the background of the prestigious position of Jing Yi and Confucianism. $$$$
