Abstract:Limbal stem cells is essential for maintaining corneal epithelium structural integrity and repairing corneal damage.Limbal stem cell deficiency induced by injury of limbal stem cells can lead to severe corneal disease.The main treatment for limbal stem cell deficiency is cell transplantation.This article reviews the recent progress on differentiation,expansion,characterization and transplantation of limbal stem cells for the treatment of corneal diseases.
