Abstract:Diphenyltin(IV) complexes of N-(3,5-dibromosalicylidene)-alpha-amino acid, Ph2Sn[3,5-Br-2-2-OC6H2 CH = NCH(R)COO] (where R = H, Me, i-Pr, Bz), and their 1:1 adducts with diphenyltin dichloride, Ph2Sn[3,5-Br-2-2-OC6H2CH = NCH(R)COO](Ph2SnCl2)-Ph-., have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR and NMR (H-1, C-13 and Sn-119) spectra. The crystal structure of Ph2Sn[3,5-Br-2-2-OC6H2CH = NCH(i-Pr)COO] shows a distorted trigonal bipyramidal geometry with the axial locations occupied by a carboxylate-oxygen and a phenolic-oxygen atom of the ligand, and that of Ph2Sn[3,5-Br-2-2-OC6H2CH = NCH(i-Pr) COO](Ph2SnCl2)-Ph-. reveals that the two tin atoms are joined via the carbonyl atom of the ligand to form a mixed organotin binuclear complex. Bioassay indicates that the compounds possess better cytotoxic activity against three human tumor cell lines (HeLa, CoLo205 and MCF-7) than cis-platin and moderate antibacterial activity against two bacteria (E. coli and S. aureus). Abstract:2-Cyclohexyloxycarbonylethyltin trichloride and its complexes with N, N-diethyldithiocarbamate, (CH2)(5)CHO COCH2CH2SnCl3-x[S2CN(Et)(2)](x) (x = 0, 1; 1, 2; 2, 3; 3, 4), were synthesized and characterized by the means of elemental analysis, IR, H-1 and C-13 NMR and X-ray single crystal diffraction. The crystal structure of complex 2 (monoclinic space group C2/c with unit cell parameters a = 1.90867 (17) nm, b = 0.67885 (8) nm, c = 3.1902 (3) nm, beta = 97.311 (7)degrees, Z = 8, mu = 1.715mm(-1), R = 0.0334) shows that the tin atom adopts a distorted octahedral geometry via the N, N-diethyldithiocarbamate ligand and intramolecular carbonyl oxygen to tin coordination. The spectral data suggest that intramolecular carbonyl oxygen to tin coordination in 1 is existent and is not allowed in order to accommodate two and three bidentate dithiocarbamate ligands in 3 and 4 respectively. Theoretical study for 2 indicates that AM1 semi-empirical calculations successfully predict the molecular geometries for these organotin compounds in the solid.

The structural features of these compounds are discussed.

Abstract:A 1: 1 reaction of triphenyltin chloride with potassium N-[(3,5-dibromo-2-hydroxyphenyl)methylene] valinate in benzene under reflux leads to the formation of a novel mixed organotin binuclear complex, Ph3Sn(HL)center dot Ph2SnL [L = 3,5-Br-2-2-OC6H2CH = NCH(i-Pr)COO], by means of a facile phenyl-tin bond cleavage process. The X-ray structure reveals that there are two distinct types of carboxylate coordination mode and tranS-O2SnC2N and tranS-O2SnC3 in distorted trigonal bipyramidal geometries. Abstract:Six new triorganotin 3‐(salicylideneamino)benzoates (1a–1c) and 3‐(4‐oxo‐2‐penten‐2‐ylamino)benzoates (2a–2c), 3‐(2‐HOC6H4CH=N)C6H4COOSnR3, and 3‐(CH3COCH=C(CH3)NH)C6H4COOSnR3 (R = Ph, a; Cy, b; Bu, c) have been synthesized by one‐pot reaction of 3‐aminobenzoic acid, salicylaldehyde (or 2,4‐pentanedione), and triorganotin hydroxide and characterized by elemental analysis, infrared, and nuclear magnetic resonance (1H, 13C, and 119Sn) spectra. The crystal structures of 1a, 1b, and 2a–2c have been determined by the single crystal X‐ray diffraction. Complexes 1a and 2a exhibit a 44‐membered macrocyclic tetramer and a polymeric zigzag chain, respectively, in which tin atoms show trans‐[C3SnO2] trigonal bipyramidal geometry with the axial positions being occupied by the carboxylate oxygen atom and the phenolic (or ketone) oxygen atom from another ligand. Complex 1b adopts a distorted tetrahedral geometry at tin, and there are two molecules differing in the relative orientation of the carboxylate toward the imino group. Compounds 2a⋅CH3OH, 2b⋅H2O, and 2c⋅H2O are five‐coordinated mononuclear adducts with one coordinated solvent molecule and display different supramolecular organizations in which there are the centrosymmetric R22(16), R42(22), and R64(34) macrocycle motifs formed by the O–H⋅⋅⋅O, N–H⋅⋅⋅O, and C–H⋅⋅⋅O hydrogen bonds. The fluorescence spectrum indicates that the complexes may be explored for potential blue luminescent materials. Compared to cisplatin, these compounds exhibit enhanced cytotoxic efficacy and can be considered as anticancer agents for further study.

Abstract:Ten complexes formulated as Ph2SnL, where L is RC6H4C(O)N2CHC6H4O with R = H, p-NO2, p-Cl, p-Br, p-CH3, p-OCH3, o-NH2, m-NO2, m-OCH3, and 3,5-dinitro, have been prepared and were characterized by 1H NMR, IR, and mass spectroscopy and elemental analyses. A single crystal X-ray diffraction study of the complex with R=o-NH2 confirms the molecular structure. The crystals are triclinic, space group P1 with a 9.608(2), b 11.826(4), c 21.478(6) Å, α 76.17(2), β 76.53(2), γ 88.91(2)°, V 2302.7(4) Å3, Z = 4, Dc 1.52 g/cm3. The final discrepancy factors are R = 0.050 and Rw = 0.057 for 3129 observed independent reflections. The tin atom has a distorted trigonal bipyramidal coordination. The two SnO bonds of 2.073(6) and 2.116(6) Å, respectively and one SnN bond (of 2.143(7) Å)11The bond distances and anles quoted in the text all refer to the averaged values of two independent molecules. are shorter than those found in related complexes. A comparison of the IR spectra of the ligands with those of the corresponding complexes, reveals that the disappearance of the bands assigned to carbonyl unambiguously confirms that the ligands coordinate with the tin in the enol form.

Abstract:The title compounds, (−)-MenOCOCH2CH2SnClnPh3-n (n=0, 1; 1, 2; 2, 3; 3, 4) and [(−)-MenOCOCH2CH2Sn(OH)Cl2]2·2(C2H5)2O (5·2(C2H5)2O) were synthesized and characterized by means of elemental analysis, IR, NMR (1H, 13C and 119Sn) and X-ray crystallography. Compounds 2–5·2(C2H5)2O contain intramolecular carbonyl-to-tin coordination, and the strengths of the interaction between the CO and Sn generally increase in order 1<2<3<4<5·2(C2H5)2O.

Abstract:We have synthesized new diorganotin(IV) complexes of the type R2SnL (where R; methyl, ethyl, butyl and phenyl) of Schiff base ligands N'-(5-chloro-2-hydroxybenzylidene)thiophene-2-carbohydrazide (H2L1), N'-(4-(diethylamino)-2-hydroxybenzylidene)thiophene-2-carbohydrazide (H2L2), N'-(3,5-dibromo-2-hydroxybenzylidene)thiophene-2-carbohydrazide (H2L3) and N'-(2-hydroxy-5-methoxy-3-nitrobenzylidene)thiophene-2-carbohydrazide (H2L4). Spectroscopic methods (FT-IR, UV–vis, 1H, 13C and 119Sn NMR), elemental analysis, mass spectrometry, melting point and molar conductance measurements were used to elucidate the structures of compounds (1-20). The spectroscopic data indicated that the Schiff bases are tridentate (NOO) in nature and coordinated to the tin metal through enolic oxygen, azomethine nitrogen and aromatic hydroxyl oxygen donor atoms to display pentacoordinated geometry around the central tin metal. To examine the biological profile, the synthesized compounds were tested for in vitro antimicrobial activity against different bacterial and fungal strains by using serial dilution method which revealed that compounds Bu2SnL3 (15) and Ph2SnL3 (16) were most active antimicrobial agent. The compounds were further tested for antioxidant activity by using DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) assay. Complex Ph2SnL3 (16) exhibited highest antioxidant potential with lowest IC50 value (2.95 μM) among all the tested compounds.Graphical

Abstract:A new organotin/Schiff-base complex C 28 H 31 Cl 3 NO 4 Sn (1) was synthesized by the reaction of β-butoxycarbonylethyltin trichlorides (2) with 2-hydroxy-1-naphthalidene-4-methoxyaniline (3) in the presence of benzene, and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR, and elemental analysis. Yellow rectangular rods of the title complex crystallize as a benzene solvate of formula C 28 H 31 Cl 3 NO 4 Sn (1) in the triclinic space group P-1. The unit cell has a = 9.274(3) Å, b = 13.066(2) Å, c = 13.579(3) Å, α = 69.463(12)°, β = 89.04(2)°, γ = 73.36(2)°, and Z = 2. It is found that atom H riding on phenolic O in free ligand (3) has transferred to imine atom N due to the coordination of phenolic O with Sn after the complex formation, while an intromolecular hydrogen bond still exists between phenolic O and N (N...O, 2.572(3) Å). Sn is coordinated by three chloride atoms, one carbon atom and two oxygen atoms, resulting in a distorted octahedra.

Abstract:In the present study, the equimolar reactions of dialkyltin (IV) dichlorides with Schiff base ligands have been processed, and from these reactions a series of new organotin complexes have formed with the general formula R 2 SnL 1–5 where R = Me, Bu and Ph and L = Schiff base ligands (obtained by the reaction of 5-phenylisoxazole-3-carboxylic acid hydrazide with salicylaldehyde and its derivatives) and the synthesized compounds were characterized by various spectroscopic techniques such as IR, 1 H, 13 C, 119 Sn NMR, and mass spectrometry, and it was found that the Schiff bases bind to the metal center through ONO donor atoms in a tridentate manner. The synthesized ligands and the complexes were further tested for their antimicrobial properties against two Gram-positive bacteria ( Bacillus subtilis (MTCC 441) and Staphylococcus aureus (MTCC 2901)), two Gram-negative bacteria ( Escherichia coli (MTCC 732) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MTCC 424)), and two fungal strains ( Candida albicans (MTCC 227) and Aspergillus niger (MTCC 9933)). The activity of the ligands becomes appreciably enhanced on binding with tin metal. Diorganotin complexes having diphenyl substrate showed better activity than the dibutyl and dimethyl substrates. Complex 17m, which has –NO 2 and Ph 2 Sn groups, found the most active one. The synthesized compounds were also tested for their antioxidant activity using DPPH free radical method and it was found that compound 20 showed the best result.

Abstract:N,N-Diethyldithiocarbamate complexes of 2-alkoxycarbonylethyltin trichloride, ROCOCH2CH2 SnCl3-x[S2CNEt2](x) (R = CH3 (a); CH3CH2 (b); CH2=CHCH2 (c); CH3CH2CH2 (d); CH3CH2CH2CH2 (e); x = 1 (1), 2 (2)) were synthesized and characterized by means of elemental analysis, IR, and NMR (H-1, C-13 and Sn-119) spectra. The crystal structure of 1b (i.e. R = CH3CH2, x = 1) was determined and shows that the tin atom adopts a distorted octahedral geometry with both a five-membered chelate ring, formed via carbonyl coordination to tin, and a four-membered chelate ring, formed by the bidentate dithiocarbamate. The spectral data and ab initio calculations indicate that intramolecular carbonyl-oxygen to tin coordination in la-le persists, but not in 2a-2e, owing to the preference of the dithiocarbamate ligands to chelate the tin centre. Abstract:Eleven complexes having the general formula, [π-C5H5Fe(CO)2]2[RC6H4C(O)N2-CHC6H4O]Sn (R = H, p-NO2, p-Cl, p-Br, p-I, p-CH3, p-OCH3, m-NO2, m-OCH3, and 3,5-dinitro) have been synthesized. These complexes have been characterized by 1H NMR, IR and MS, and by elemental analysis. A single crystal X-ray diffraction study (R = o-NH2) confirmed their molecular structures and revealed that the o-(nuclear substituted α-hydroxybenzylidenehydrazonomethyl)phenols are tridentate planar ligands. The crystals are monoclinic, space group P21/n with a 13.495(4),b 13.058(2), c 18.311(3) Å, β 94.90(2)°, V 3214.9 Å3, Z = 4, Dc 1.66 g/cm3. Final discrepancy factors of R = 0.033 and Rw = 0.039 were obtained for 3075 observed independent reflections. The tin atom has a distorted trigonal bipyramidal coordination. SnFe bond lengths are 2.5421 and 2.5242 Å (av. 2.5332 Å). In these complexes, the ligands exist in the enol-form.

Abstract:Three organotin carboxylates based on amide carboxylic acids: (Ph3Sn)(2)(L-1) (1) (L-1 = 3,3'-(1,3,5,7-tetraoxo-5,7-dihydropyrrolo[3,4-f]isoindole-2,6(1H,3H)-diyl)dipropionic acid), (Ph3Sn)2(L-2)center dot C7H8 (2) (L-2 = 3,3'-(1,3,6,8-tetraoxo-1,3,6,8-tetrahydrobenzo [lmn][3,8]phenanthroline-2,7-diyl)dipropionic acid), [(Ph3Sn)(CH3CH2O)](2)(L-3) (3) (L-3 = 2,2'-(1,3,5,7-tetraoxo-5,7-dihydropyrrolo[3,4-f]isoindole-2,6(1H,3H)-diyl) dibenzoic acid) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, H-1, C-13, Sn-119 NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography diffraction analyses. Complexes 1-3 are di-nuclear triphenlytin carboxylates owning "S" shaped monomer structures. Ligands in 1-3 adopt unidentate coordination. Intermolecular hydrogen bonds and Sn center dot center dot center dot O interactions help complexes 1-3 build their supramolecular structures which are discussed in detail. Abstract:Reaction of tri-n-butyl tin(IV) chloride with the sodium salt of Schiff bases [salicylidene-2-aminopyridine (sapH), salicylidene-2-amino-4-picoline (sapicH), salicylidene-2-methyl-1-aminobenzene (o-smabH), salicylidene-4-methyl-1-aminobenzene (p-smabH), salicylidene-1- aminobenzene (sabH), salicylidene-3-nitro-1-aminobenzene (snabH)] in MeOH-C6H6 mixture in 1:1 molar ratio produced complexes of the type [Bun 3Sn(sb)] (where sb = Schiff bases). All complexes obtained were characterized by elemental analysis (C, H, N, and Sn), infrared (IR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR; 1H, 13C, and 119Sn), and TOF-MS spectroscopic studies. These complexes were found to be monomeric, colored viscous liquids and are soluble in polar solvents (methanol, ethanol, DMSO, and DMF). On the basis of 119Sn NMR observations, a five coordination geometry around tin(IV) atom in these complexes is proposed tentatively.
Organotin(IV) Complexes Derived from Hydrazone Schiff Base: Synthesis, Crystal Structure, in Vitro Cytotoxicity and DNA/BSA Interactions

Abstract:Four new organotin(IV) complexes Me2SnL1, Ph2SnL1, Me2SnL2 and Ph2SnL2 (H2L1=5-chlorosalicylaldehyde isonicotinoyl hydrazone and H2L2=2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzaldehyde isonicotinoyl hydrazone) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, FT-IR, NMR (1H, 13C and 119Sn) and single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. The crystal structure analysis shows that complexes 1 and 2 are trinuclear compounds, of which the enolic hydrazone Schiff base ligand chelate to tin center in the ONO tridentate mode. In contrast, the complexes 3 and 4 are uninuclear compounds with the central Sn atoms adopting five-coordinated distorted trigonal bipyramid geometry. Cytotoxicity of the four complexes was studied against two human cancer cell lines (A549 and HeLa) by the MTT assay method. The results demonstrate that the four complexes exhibited good anticancer activity, and mononuclear complex 4 was found to be more effective towards HeLa cancerous cells. The interactions between all complexes with calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) and bovine serum albumin (BSA) were investigated using various spectroscopic techniques. The viscosity measurements, thermal temperature (Tm) and UV–Vis spectra data suggested intercalative binding between DNA and the four organotin (IV) complexes. In addition, all complexes could quench the intrinsic fluorescence of BSA in a static quenching process, which was also confirmed by the docking study.

Abstract:Due to their intrinsic high reactivity, isolation of tin(0) complexes remains challenging. Herein, we report the synthesis of a silylene-stabilized ditin(0) complex (2) by reduction of a silylene-supported dibromostannylene (1) with 1 equivalent of magnesium (I) dimer in toluene. The structure of 2 was established by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Density Functional Theory calculations revealed that complex 2 bears a Sn=Sn double bond and one lone pair of electrons on each of the Sn(0) atoms. Remarkably, complex 2 is readily methylated to give a mixed-valent methylditin cation (4), which undergoes topomerization in solution though a reversible 1,2-Me migration along a Sn=Sn bond. Computational studies showed that the three-coordinate Sn atom in 4 is the dominant electrophilic center, and allows for facile reaction with KHBBus3 furnishing an unprecedented N-heterocyclic silylenes-stabilized distannavinylidene (5). The synthesis of 2, 4 and 5 demonstrates the exceptional ability of N-heterocyclic silylenes to stabilize low valent tin complexes.

The crystal structures of all complexes have been determined by X-ray crystallography. Three distannoxane rings are present to the dimeric tetraorganodistannoxane of planar ladder arrangement. Each structure is centro-symmetric and features a central rhombus Sn2O2 unit with two additional tin atoms linked at the O atoms. Abstract:Three diorganotin(IV) complexes of the general formula R2Sn[RcC(O)N(RN)O] (Rc = aryl, RN = Alkyl) have been synthesized by refluxing in toluene the corresponding diorganotin(IV) oxides with the free ligand N-methyl p-fluorobenzohydroxamic acid, using a Dean and Stark water separator. The ligand was derived from the reaction of the corresponding p-fluorobenzoyl chloride and N-methylhydroxylamine hydrochloride in the presence of sodium hydrogen carbonate. The isolated free ligand and its respective diorganotin compounds have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR and 1H-, 13C-, 119Sn-NMR spectroscopies. The crystal structures of the diorganotin complexes have been confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction methods. The investigations carried out on the diorganotin(IV) complexes of N-methyl p-fluorobenzohydroxamic acid confirmed a 1:2 stoichiometry. The complex formation took place through the O,O-coordination via the carbonyl oxygen and subsequent deprotonated hydroxyl group to the tin atom. The crystal structures of three diorganotin complexes were determined and were found to adopt six coordination geometries at the tin centre with coordination to two ligand moieties.

Abstract:Seven new organotin(IV) compounds containing the carboxylate ligand (Z)-3-(4-nitrophenyl)-2-phenyl-2-propenoate (L) have been synthesized with formulations of R2SnL2 (R = Me, Et, n-Bu, n-Oct) and R3SnL, (R = Me, n-Bu, Ph). All compounds have been studied in solution by multinuclear (H-1, C-13, Sn-119) magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The solid-state structures have been investigated by means of FT-IR spectroscopy and the molecular structure of one example, namely n-Bu3SnL, has been determined by X-ray crystallography. The novel structure of n-Bu3SnL is tetrameric owing to the presence of bidentate bridging carboxylate ligands. The solution studies show collapse of the intermolecular interactions observed in the solid state to yield monomeric species. Abstract:We report the syntheses of tin(II) salts of the types [L1SnX]SnX3 [L1 = 2,6‐{(i‐PrO)2(O)P}2C5H3N: 1, X = Cl; 2, X = Br], [L2SnCl]SnCl3 [L2 = 2‐{(i‐PrO)Ph(O)P}‐6‐{(i‐PrO)2(O)P}C5H3N: 3], [L3SnX]SnX3 [L3 = 2,6‐{MeO(O)C}2C5H3N: 4, X = Cl; 5, X = Br], [L4SnX]SnX3[L4 = 2,6‐{Et2N(O)C}2C5H3N: 6, X = Cl; 7, X = Br]. These compounds were obtained by addition of SnX2 to the corresponding ligand inducing autoionization of the respective tin(II) halide. The thermal stability of 1, 3, and 4 was elucidated, giving, under ester cleavage and cyclisation, the tin(II) derivatives 8‐12. The reaction of [L1SnCl]SnCl3 (1) with W(CO)4(thf)2 afforded the tungsten tetracarbonyl complex [{L1SnCl}{SnCl3}W(CO)4] (13), representing the first example in which a tin(II) stannate anion and a tin(II) stannylium cation simultaneously coordinate to a transition metal centre. The compounds were characterized by single crystal X‐ray diffraction analyses and in part by elemental analyses, IR and NMR spectroscopy, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry. DFT calculations accompany the experimental work.
