Abstract:The plant species of Composotae and their ability to accumulate heavy metals were investigated at four contaminated sites in Xiangxi area,Hunan. The first investigation showed that 20 plant species belonging to the Composotae were most frequently found in the study area. The total species numbers of Composotae were 10,17,9 and 5 in Wanmingang,Limei,Datianwan and Sanli, respectively. The average concentrations of Cd,Pb,Zn and Cu in all feverfew were 34.1,104.0,744.0 and 15.0 mg·kg-1(DW),respectively.Only for four plant species, namely Xanthium sibiricum,Artemisia umbrosa,Bidens bipinnata and Eclipta prostrata, the Cd contents were more than 100 mg·kg-1.The second investigation indicated that the average concentration of Cd in the leaves of Bidens pilosa,Bidens bipinnata and Eclipta prostrata was found to be 49.7,90.6 and 102.0 mg·kg-1,and their average enrichment factor was 2.04,3.01 and 22.3 respectively. And,in the three species,78% samples for Bidens pilosa,80% samples for Bidens bipinnata and 100% samples for Eclipta prostrate had a transfer factor more than 1,suggesting that Bidens bipinnata and Eclipta prostrate can be considered as Cd hyperaccumulating plant species.
