Abstract:The functionalization of aliphatic C–H bonds is a crucial step in the synthesis and transformation of complex molecules relevant to medicinal, agricultural, and materials chemistry. As such, there is significant interest in the development of general synthetic platforms that will enable efficient diversification of aliphatic C–H bonds. Here, we report a new hypervalent iodine reagent that releases a potent hydrogen atom abstractor for C–H activation under mild photochemical conditions. Using this reagent, we demonstrate the selective (N-phenyltetrazole)thiolation of aliphatic C–H bonds for a broad scope of substrates. The synthetic utility of the thiolated products is showcased through various derivatizations. Simply by altering the radical trapping agent, our method can be used to directly transform C–H bonds into diverse functionalities, including C–S, C–Cl, C–Br, C–I, C–O, C–N, and C–C bonds.

Abstract:A hypervalent iodine mediated alkene difunctionalization reaction of vinylphenols has been developed. The chemistry is applicable to a wide range of substitutions on both the alkene and nucleophile substrates, enabling the rapid synthesis of 3-substituted indoles and 2-substituted indolizines in good yields and high diastereoselectivities under metal-free conditions.

Abstract:Iodine-mediated intermolecular C-N and C-I bond formation of alkenes is described. A series of alkenes could be selectively converted into the corresponding aminoiodination products, which are versatile building blocks in organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry. Abstract:Hypervalent iodine diazo reagents with electron‐withdrawing groups (EWG) connected to diazo methyl center were a type of donor‐acceptor diazo compounds with potential reaction abilities similar to ordinary diazo compounds. Although several hypervalent iodine diazo reagents were synthesized and used in the nucleophilic substitution reactions as early as 1994, the synthesis and application of new iodine(III) diazo reagents have only been reported to a certain extent in recent years. In the presence of rhodium catalyst, photocatalyst, or nucleophiles, hypervalent iodine diazo reagents can be converted into rhodium‐carbenes, diazomethyl radicals, ester radicals or nucleophilic intermediates, which can be used as key intermediates for the formation of chemical bonds. The aim of this review is to give an overview of hypervalent iodine diazo compounds in organic synthesis.

Abstract:Abstract Hypervalent iodine compounds are powerful reagents for the development of novel transformations. As they exhibit low toxicity, high functional group tolerance, and stability in biocompatible media, they have been used for the functionalization of biomolecules. Herein, we report recent advances up to June 2021 in peptide and protein modification using hypervalent iodine reagents. Their use as group transfer or oxidizing reagents is discussed in this Minireview, including methods targeting polar, aromatic, or aliphatic amino acids and peptide termini.

Abstract:Well-defined hypervalent iodine(III) reagents incorporating transferable sulfoximidoyl groups were obtained through ligand exchange reactions of methoxy(tosyloxy)iodobenzene (MTIB) with NH sulfoximines in good to excellent yields. The solid-state structure of a representative product was characterized by X-ray crystallography. Utilizing these reagents in synthesis provides a new, transition-metal-free approach towards N-alkynylated sulfoximines.

Abstract:A hypervalent iodine-reagent-based C-H functionalization strategy was utilized to synthesize diaryl ethers. This method directly transforms various arenes into their corresponding diaryliodonium salts, followed by a C-O coupling reaction to produce structurally diverse diaryl ethers. Abstract:<p>An anodic oxidation enabled synthesis of hypervalent iodine(III) reagents from aryl iodides is demonstrated. Under mild electrochemical conditions, a range of aryliodine(III) reagents including iodosylarenes, (difunctionaliodo)arenes, benziodoxoles and diaryliodonium salts can be efficiently synthesized and derivatized in good to excellent yields with high selectivity. As only electrons serve as the oxidation reagents, this method offers a more straightforward and sustainable manner avoiding the use of expensive or hazardous chemical oxidants.</p><p>This article is protected by copyright. Abstract:Comprehensive Summary A metal‐free, green, and sustainable functionalization of unactivated alkyl sp3 C–H bonds is reported using iodine (III) as a feasible dehydrogenation agent under visible light or KBr, and alkyl chlorides, bromides, alcohols, and ketones could be constructed by addition of different coupling reagents. Cheap and safe iodobenzene diacetate was used to form a radical to activate the alkyl sp3 C–H bond in a highly efficient manner, which can construct different alkylation products by adding corresponding coupling reagents.
