Abstract:Objective To investigate epidemiological features of the second-generation HIV/AIDS within family transmission in northern rural areas of Jiangsu province and to analyze prevalence of the second-generation within-family transmission as well as incidence of HIV infection between spouses and MTCT . Methods Retrospective study was conducted among 166 cases of HIV infectors /AIDS patients reported from 1998 to 2008 in Tongshan country of Jiangsu province. Results Among the 166 cases of HIV infectors /AIDS patients, 110 were married and got infected via blood transfusion, with 28 males and 82 females; 21 cases were couples of the second generation HIV transmission (13 males and 8 females) with the incidence rate of 19.09% ,of which 28.57% were cases of transmission from husbands to wives and 15.85%-vise verse ,but the deference had no statistical significance ( χ2 =2.4,P>0.05). Of the surveyed subjects , 29 HIV positive women of childbearing age delivered a total of 33 live babies, of whom 6 were confirmed as HIV positive with a MCTC rate of 18.18%. Of these 29 women 11 delivered their babies after they got infected with HIV, and of their 15 live babies 4 were HIV positive , with a MTCT rate of 26.67%, while 18 got infected via postnatal blood transfusion , and their 18 live babies all had breast feeding, of whom 2 were HIV positive ,with a MTCT rate of 11.11%. Conclusion The incidence of the second generation AIDS within-family transmission is relatively high in the rural areas of northern Jiangsu, and a system of early HIV case detection should be established and improved so as to contain the spread of HIV to the general population.
