Abstract:In this paper, by use of the holographic principle together with the equipartition law of energy and the Unruh temperature, we derive the Friedmann equations of a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe.

Abstract:It has been shown that Friedmann equation of FRW universe can be derived from the first law of thermodynamics in Einstein gravity, Gauss-Bonnet gravity, Lovelock gravity, scalar-tensor gravity and $f(R)$ gravity. Moreover, it was pointed out that the temperature of the apparent horizon can be obtained using the tunneling formalism for the corresponding observers defined by Kodama vector. In this article, we find that the energy flux through the apparent horizon can be determined by using the Kodama vector. This implies the fact that the Clausius relation and the first law of thermodynamics associated with the apparent horizon in FRW universe is relative to the Kodama observers.We illustrate the derivation of Friedmann equation, and also extend the study to the cases of Ho\v{r}ava-Lifshitz gravity and IR modified Ho\v{r}ava-Lifshitz gravity.

Abstract:It has been shown that Friedmann equation of FRW universe can be derived from the idea which says cosmic space is emergent as cosmic time progresses and our universe is expanding towards the state with the holographic equipartition by Padmanabhan. In this note, we give a general relationship between the horizon entropy and the number of the degrees of freedom on the surface, which can be applied to quantum gravity. we also obtain the corresponding dynamic equations by using the idea of emergence of spaces in the f(R) theory and deformed Horava-Lifshitz(HL) theory.
A cosmic accelerated scenario based on degrees of freedom of the spacetime

Abstract: Several recent investigations have shown that there is a holographic relationship between the bulk degrees of freedom and the surface degrees of freedom in the spacetime. Furthermore, the entropy on the horizon can produce an entropic force effect on the bulk degrees of freedom. In this paper, we explore the dynamic evolution law of the universe based on the idea of the entropic force and asymptotically holographic equipartition and further analyze the thermodynamic properties of the current model. We get the age of the universe, the relation between the luminosity distance and the redshift factor and the deceleration parameter which are consistent with astronomical observations. In addition, we can well explain the age of the universe and the mechanism of accelerated expansion without introducing dark energy for the evolution history of the universe up to now. We also show that the generalized second law of thermodynamics, the energy balance condition and the energy equipartition relation always hold. More importantly, the energy balance condition is indeed a holographic relation between the bulk degrees of freedom and the surface degrees of freedom of the spacetime. Finally, we analyze the energy conditions and show that the strong energy condition is always violated and the weak energy condition is satisfied when $t\leq2t_{0}$ in which $t$ is the time parameter and $t_{0}$ is the age of the universe.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a model in which an additional pressure due to the effects of the entropic force is added to the ideal fluid. Furthermore, we obtain the dynamic equation in the FRW universe which contains the quantum gravitational effects based on the description of entropic force and emergence of space. Our model can well explain the age of the universe and the effect of the current accelerating expansion. We give the relation between the luminosity distance and the redshift factor, and compare this relation with that of lambda cold dark matter model ( CDM model).

Abstract:Researches in the several decades have shown that the dynamics of gravity is closely related to thermodynamics of the horizon. In this paper, we derive the Friedmann acceleration equation based on the idea of “emergence of space” and thermodynamics of the Hubble horizon whose temperature is obtained from the unified first law of thermodynamics. Then we derive another evolution equation of the universe based on the energy balance relation ρVH=TS. Combining the two evolution equations and the equation of state of the cosmic matter, we obtain the evolution solutions of the FRW universe. We find that the solutions obtained by us include the solutions obtained in the standard general relativity (GR) theory. Therefore, it is more general to describe the evolution of the universe in the thermodynamic way.

Abstract:A cosmological model based on holographic scenarios is formulated in a flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe. To formulate this model, the cosmological horizon is assumed to have a general entropy and a general temperature (including Bekenstein-Hawking entropy and Gibbons-Hawking temperature, respectively). In addition, a holographic-like connection [Eur. Phys. J. C 83, 690 (2023) (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2212.05822" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2212.05822">arXiv:2212.05822</a>)] and Padmanabhan's holographic equipartition law are assumed for the entropy and temperature, and the Friedmann and acceleration equations are derived from these. The derived Friedmann and acceleration equations include both the entropy and the temperature and are slightly complicated, but can be combined into a single simple equation, corresponding to a similar equation that describes the background evolution of the universe in time-varying $\Lambda (t)$ cosmologies. The simple equation depends on the entropy but not on the temperature because the temperatures in the Friedmann and acceleration equations cancel each other. These results imply that the holographic-like connection should be consistent with Padmanabhan's holographic equipartition law through the present model and that the entropy plays a more important role. When the Gibbons-Hawking temperature is used as the temperature, the Friedmann and acceleration equations are found to be equivalent to those for a $\Lambda(t)$ model. A particular case of the present model is also examined, applying a power-law corrected entropy.

Abstract:The Friedmann equation in the Friedmann–Robertson–Walker (FRW) universe with any spatial curvature is derived from the first law of thermodynamics on the event horizon. The key idea is to redefine a Hawking temperature on the event horizon. Furthermore, we obtain the evolution equations of the universe including the quantum correction and explore the evolution of the universe in f(R) gravity. In addition, we also investigate the generalized second law of thermodynamics in Einstein gravity and f(R) gravity. This perspective also implies that the first law of thermodynamics on the event horizon has a general description in respect of the evolution of the FRW universe.

Abstract:It is shown that the differential form of Friedmann equation of a FRW universe can be rewritten as a universal form $dE = TdS + WdV$ at apparent horizon, where $E$ and $V$ are the matter energy and volume inside the apparent horizon (the energy $E$ is the same as the Misner-Sharp energy in the case of Einstein general relativity), $W=(\rho-P)/2$ is the work density and $\rho$ and $P$ are energy density and pressure of the matter in the universe, respectively. From the thermodynamic identity one can derive that the apparent horizon has associated entropy $S= A/4G$ and temperature $T = \kappa / 2\pi$ in Einstein general relativity, where $A$ is the area of apparent horizon and $\kappa$ is the surface gravity at apparent horizon. We extend our procedure to the Gauss-Bonnet gravity and more general Lovelock gravity and show that the differential form of Friedmann equations in these gravities can also be rewritten to thee universal form $dE = TdS + WdV$ at the apparent horizon with entropy $S$ being given by expression previously known via black hole thermodynamics.

Abstract:Adopting the thermodynamics-gravity conjecture, and assuming the entropy associated with the apparent horizon of the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe has the form of the generalized Kaniadakis entropy, we extract the modified Friedmann equations describing the evolution of the universe using the first law of thermodynamics on the apparent horizon. We then investigate the validity of the generalized second law of thermodynamics for the universe enclosed by the apparent horizon.

Abstract:The Friedmann equation in the FRW universe with any spatial curvature is derived from the first law of thermodynamics on the event horizon. The key idea is to redefine a Hawking temperature on the event horizon. Furthermore, we obtain these equations of evolution of the universe in the quantum modified gravity and $f(R)$ gravity. Viewed in this way, the universe bounded by the event horizon is a Bekenstein system. This perspective also implies that the first law of thermodynamics on the event horizon has a general depiction in respect of the evolution of the universe.

Abstract:We formulate Friedmann's equations as second-order linear differential equations. This is done using techniques related to the Schwarzian derivative that selects the $\beta$-times $t_\beta:=\int^t a^{-2\beta}$, where $a$ is the scale factor. In particular, it turns out that Friedmann's equations are equivalent to the eigenvalue problems $$ O_{1/2} \Psi=\frac{\Lambda}{12}\Psi \ , \qquad O_1 a =\frac{\Lambda}{3} a \ , $$ which is suggestive of a measurement problem. $O_{\beta}(\rho,p)$ are space-independent Klein-Gordon operators, depending only on energy density and pressure, and related to the Klein-Gordon Hamilton-Jacobi equations. The $O_\beta$'s are also independent of the spatial curvature, labeled by $k$, and absorbed in $$ \Psi=\sqrt a e^{\frac{i}{2}\sqrt{k}\eta} \ . $$ The above pair of equations is the unique possible linear form of Friedmann's equations unless $k=0$, in which case there are infinitely many pairs of linear equations. Such a uniqueness just selects the conformal time $\eta\equiv t_{1/2}$ among the $t_\beta$'s, which is the key to absorb the curvature term. An immediate consequence of the linear form is that it reveals a new symmetry of Friedmann's equations in flat space.

Abstract:The general relativistic cosmological Friedmann equations which describe how the scale factor of the universe evolves are expanded explicitly to include energy forms not usually seen. The evolution of the universe as predicted by the Friedmann equations when dominated by a single, isotropic, stable, static, perfect-fluid energy form is discussed for different values of its gravitational pressure to density ratio $w$. These energy forms include phantom energy ($w<-1$), cosmological constant ($w=-1$), domain walls ($w = -2/3$), cosmic strings ($w = -1/3$), normal matter ($w = 0$), radiation and relativistic matter ($w = 1/3$), and a previously little-discussed form of energy called "ultralight" ($w>1/3$). A brief history and possible futures of Friedmann universes dominated by a single energy form are discussed.

Abstract:In this paper, employing the exponential corrected entropy (Chatterjee and Ghosh in Phys Rev Lett 125:041302, 2020), we derive the modified Friedmann equations from the first law of thermodynamics at apparent horizon and Verlinde's entropic gravity scenario. First, we derive the modified Friedmann equations from the first law of thermodynamics. We investigate the validity of generalised second law (GSL) of thermodynamics and find that it is always satisfied for the all eras of universe. Moreover, we investigate the deceleration parameter for the case in two frameworks. Finally, we numerically study the bouncing behaviour for the modified Friedmann equations obtained from entropic gravity. The results indicate that the bouncing behaviour is possible for the cases and .

Friedmann equations of the fractal apparent horizon

Abstract:From a fractal perspective, the entropy bound of gravitational systems undergoes changes. Furthermore, in the cosmological setting, the conservation law of a perfect fluid is also altered in such systems, affecting spatial elements like volume, area, and radius. By applying the first law of thermodynamics and deriving the Friedmann equations, we can gain insight into the evolution of such a fractal cosmos. However, observations continue to necessitate the existence of a dark energy source. To address this, in this article, we have created a novel fractal $\Lambda$CDM cosmological model and determined the fractal cosmological observables. We show that the spatial fractal dimension is two, and the age of the Universe is 13.91 Gyr, by fitting the model's parameters to cosmological data.

Abstract:Horizon thermodynamics is expected to be related to the effective energy based on the energy density calculated from the Friedmann equation for a Friedmann--Robertson--Walker (FRW) universe. In the present study, the effective energy and thermostatistical quantities on a cosmological horizon are examined to clarify the holographic-like connection between them, with a focus on a de Sitter universe. To this end, the Helmholtz free energy on the horizon is derived from horizon thermodynamics. The free energy is found to be equivalent to the effective energy calculated from the Friedmann equation. This consistency is interpreted as a kind of holographic-like connection. To examine this connection, Padmanabhan's holographic equipartition law, which is related to the origin of spacetime dynamics, is applied to a de Sitter universe. It is found that the law should lead to a holographic-like connection. The holographic-like connection is considered to be a bridge between thermostatistical quantities on the horizon and in the bulk. For example, cosmological equations for a flat FRW universe can be derived from horizon thermodynamics by accepting the connection as a viable scenario. In addition, a thermal entropy equivalent to the Bekenstein--Hawking entropy is obtained from the Friedmann equation using the concept of a canonical ensemble in statistical physics. The present study provides new insight into the discussion of horizon thermodynamics and cosmological equations.

Abstract:By following the spirit of Verlinde's entropic force proposal arXiv:1001.0785, we give the differential and integral form of the first law of thermodynamics on the holographic screen enclosing a spherical symmetric black hole. It is consistent with equipartition principle and the form of Komar mass. The entropy of the holographic screen determines its area, i. e. $S=\frac{A}{4}$. And then we express the metric by thermodynamic variables, to give an illustration of how the space is foliated by the thermodynamical potentials.

Abstract:The Einstein equations of general relativity reduce, when the spacetime metric is of the Friedmann--Lemaitre--Robertson--Walker type governing an isotropic and homogeneous universe, to the Friedmann equations, which is a set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations, determining the law of evolution of the spatial scale factor, in terms of the Hubble ``constant''. It is a challenging task, not always possible, to solve these equations. In this talk, we present some insights from solving and analyzing the Friedmann equations and their implications to evolutionary cosmology. In particular, in the Chaplygin fluid universe, we derive a universal formula for the asymptotic exponential growth rate of the scale factor which indicates that, as far as there is a tiny presence of nonlinear (exotic) matter, linear (conventional) matter makes contribution to the dark energy, which becomes significant near the phantom divide line.
