Abstract:Meningioma is one of the most common intracranial tumor. Surgical excision has been the treatment of choice. However, over the past 30 years there are mounting evidences to prove that radiation therapy has become one of major treatment option. Radiotherapy is needed in the following situations: after incomplete resection of benign meningiomas, after complete resection of atypical or anaplasia meningiomas and after recurrence. For some tumors radiotherapy should be considered as a primary treatment. In this article, we outline the data supporting the use of radiotherapy in the treatment of meningiomas and review the recent advances.
