Abstract:Objective: To provide references for the development and registration of new drugs.Methods:Data of the registration of category 1.1 chemical drugs were retrieved from the website of China Food and Drug Administration and the relevant database, and the patent information was collected through State Intellectual Property Office. The retrospective method was used for data analysis.Results:Over the past seven years, the accepted applications of category 1.1 chemical drugs accounted for 5.57% of the total application cases. The number of accepted cases of API and preparation increased at an annual growth rate of 23% and 19.8%respectively. Therapeutic areas were covered by IND applications, the biggest share all came from oncology drugs which accounted for 40% of total applications. Drug registration efficiency was gradually improved. Twenty one drugs of category 1.1 were authorized with document numbers, among which, a total of four drugs received independent patent protection.Conclusion: During the past seven years, the research and development as well as the registration of category 1.1 chemical drugs were active, but drugs with completely independent intellectual property rights were still few.
