Abstract:Objective To determine whether blood pressure and blood sugar of snorers are associated with excessive daytime sleepiness and to investigate the relationship among them. Methods 70 subjects were classified into two groups:group one, snorers (n=50),without OSAS;and group two, healthy control subjects (n=20).A questionnaire about the epworth sleep scale was administered to 70 subjects.Blood pressure and blood-fasting sugar were measured. We compared ESS-EP score, blood pressure and blood-fasting sugar between the two groups. Results ESS-EP score of the snorers was higher than the control subjects (14.98±4.76 vs 7.7±2.13).Blood pressure and blood-fasting sugar of the snorers were significantly higher (144.68±11.93/90.66±9.20 mmHg,6.17±1.48 mmol/l) as compared to control subjects (132.75±9.39/81.5±7.63 mmHg,5.37±0.74 mmol/l,P<0.05 for both groups).Furthermore,ESS-EP score index was also found to correlate with microarousal index (r=0.9049,P<0.05),and blood pressure (r=0.4242,P<0.05).Conclusion Our results show that blood pressure and blood-fasting sugar are associated not only with snoring but also with excessive daytime sleepiness. The research of the mechanism can be useful in controlling the complication of OSAS.
