Clinical study of the effect of early use of provisional fixed bridges

Abstract:Objective To study the effect of early use of provisional fixed bridges on restoring the missing upper incisors. Methods Twelve patients were included in this study. Three to five (3～5) days after the incisors were pulled out, the provisional fixed bridges (PFB Ⅰ) were made at the teeth preparation with a supragingival margin. Two to three (2～3) months later, the abutment teeth were re-prepared with a subgingival margin, final restorations were made, and the provisional fixed bridges (PFB Ⅱ) were reiterated. Clinical parameters (PD, PI, BI) of the gingival health of the abutments were recorded before each teeth preparation and the placement of the final restorations. Results No difference was found in clinical parameters after the use of PFB Ⅰ. There was a significant difference in BI after the use of PFB Ⅱ.(If the words of"significant difference" were used, then a statistic needs to provide). Conclusion Early use of provisional fixed bridges with supragingival margin in restoring the missing upper incisors has no harmful effect on abutments and can be used in clinical applications.
