Abstract:A novel tandem one-pot method for the synthesis of polysubstituted pyridine derivatives has been developed via Knoevenagel-type reaction and subsequent 675 electrocyclization of the Blaise reaction intermediates and 3-formylchromones. Abstract:2,3-Dihydro-1,4-benzodioxins can be prepared in a tandem one-pot procedure by reaction of o-iodophenols with epoxides catalyzed by Cu2O/1,10-phenanthroline/Cs2CO3 system. The reaction is suggested to occur via a novel ring-opening/coupling mechanism, giving moderate to good yields. Moreover, both aryl and aliphatic epoxides are tolerated under these conditions.

Abstract:Mediated by 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone (DDQ), a novel oxidative coupling of hydrazones and 1,3-diarylpropenes has been disclosed to generate appealing β,γ-unsaturated hydrazones, which further undergo 5-exo-trig or 6-endo-trig cascade cyclization to give the respective 1,2-dihydropyridazines or pyrazoles selectively under metal-free conditions. The mechanisms of the coupling and subsequent cyclization are proposed.

Abstract:The efficient cross-coupling of bromo(iso)quinoline to 1,6-diynes with the Pd-catalyzed system was established. Using unactivated simple diynes with bromo(iso)quinoline in the presence of palladium catalytic system afforded different kinds of rare 7,11-diphenyl-9,10-dihydro-8H-pyrrolo[3,4-j]phenanthridine derivatives through regioselective C–H functionalization in one step. Different diynes (a–p) and different bromo(iso)quinolines were shown to be very active in the reaction. Thus, the generality of this process makes the reaction highly valuable in view of the synthetic and medicinal importance of these pyrrolo[3,4-j]phenanthridine derivatives.

Abstract:A tandem coupling-ketooxygenation reaction of readily accessible enediyne-carboxylic compounds with inner alkynes has been developed that utilizes the PdCl2/CuBr2 catalytic system under an O2 atmosphere and assembles a class of isoindolinones and o-acylbenzoic acids. The two oxygen atoms are regioselectively incorporated into enediyne units at the 1- and 6-positions from atmospheric molecular oxygen and H2O, respectively, during the present process. This study uncovered a formal [4C + 2C] benzannulation-diketonization of enediynes and alkynes via a coupling and decoupling strategy.

Abstract:The construction of benzopyrone‐fused hydrobenzofuranones via DABCO‐catalyzed [3+2] cyclization/deformylation cascade of p‐quinols with 3‐formylchromones is described. The reaction works under mild reaction conditions to provide the desired products in 53–90% yields with complete diastereoselectivities. In addition, an enantioselective version with 81% ee is also realized in the presence of Takemoto's chiral thiourea catalyst.
