Abstract:Three new lanthanide thioantimonates(V) [Ln(en)(teta)(SbS4)] {Ln=Sm (1), Eu (2), Gd (3); en=ethylenediamine; teta=triethylenetetramine} have been solvothermally synthesized and structurally characterized. Compounds 1 - 3 are isostructural. The [SbS4]3- anion acting as bichelating ligand is bound to the [Ln(en)(teta)]3+ ion, resulting in a neutral complex [Ln(en)(teta)(SbS4)]. The central Ln3+ ion lies within an eight-coordinate environment forming a distorted bicapped trigonal prism LnN6S2. Although a few lanthanide thioantimonates have been reported to date, they only contain one type of ethylene polyamine. Compounds 1 - 3 are rare examples of lanthanide thioantimonates with mixed ethylene polyamine ligands. The absorption edges of 1:75 eV for 1 and 2:27 eV for 3 have been derived from optical absorption spectra.

Abstract:Three lanthanide thioantimonates [Ho(en)4]SbVS4·0.5en (1, en = ethylenediamine) and [Ln(teta)(en)SbVS4] [Ln = Ho (2), Y (3), teta = triethylenetetramine] were prepared under mild solvothermal conditions and structurally characterized. 1 consists of isolated [Ho(en)4]3+ ion, tetrahedral [SbVS4]3− ion, and free en molecule. Both 2 and 3 contain neutral lanthanide-centred complex, where the tetrahedral anion [SbVS4]3− acts as a chelating ligand to complex [Ln(en)(teta)]3+ cation. Density functional theory calculations for both 2 and 3 have been performed, and the band gaps of 2.02 eV for 1, 1.78 eV for 2 and 1.83 eV for 3 have been derived from optical absorption.

Abstract:Two novel lanthanoid thioantimonates [Sm-4(tepa)(4)(mu-eta(2),eta(3)-Sb3S7)(2)(mu-Sb2S4)] (1, tepa = tetraethylenepentamine) and [Eu-2(tepa)(2)(mu-SbS3)(mu-OH)](2)(SbS4)(OH)center dot H2O (2) were solvothermally synthesized. Compound 1 represents the only example of different types of [Sb3S7](5-) and [Sb2S4](2-) anions coexisting in the same lanthanoid thioantimonate framework, while 2 displays rare mixed-valent Sb3+/Sb5+ character with the Sb3+ in a noncondensed pyramid [(SbS3)-S-III](3-). The theoretical band structure and luminescence properties have also been investigated.

Abstract:Two new thioantimonates [Co(dien)2]4[CoSb6S14] (1) and [Co(dien)2]2[Sb4S9] (2, dien=diethylenediamine) were solvothermally synthesized by the reactions of Co, Sb and S in dien at 160°C. 1 is composed of heterometallic [CoSb6S14]8− anion built up from the connection of one [CoS4] tetrahedron and two [SbIII3S7] units sharing edges, while 2 contains 1-D mixed-valent thioantimonate anion [Sb4S94−]n constructed by the connection of the [SbIII3S7] units and the SbVS4 tetrahedra sharing corners. The optical properties of 1 and 2 have been investigated by UV–Vis spectra.

Abstract:New lanthanide thioantimonate(V) compounds, [Ln(en)3(H2O)x(mu(3-x)-SbS4)] (en = ethylenediamine, Ln = La, x = 0, Ia; Ln = Nd, x = 1, Ib) and [Ln(en)4]SbS4.0.5en (Ln = Eu, IIa; Dy, IIb; Yb, IIc), were synthesized under mild solvothermal conditions by reacting Ln2O3, Sb, and S in en at 140 degrees C. These compounds were classified as two types according to the molecular structures. The crystal structure of type I (Ia and Ib) consists of one-dimensional neutral [Ln(en)3(H2O)x(mu(3-x)-SbS(4))]infinity (x = 0 or 1) chains, in which SbS4(3-) anions act as tridentate or bidentate bridging ligands to interlink [Ln(en)3]3+ ions, while the crystal structure of type II (IIa, IIb, and IIc) contains isolated [Ln(en)4]3+ cations, tetrahedral SbS4(3-) anions, and free en molecules. A systematic investigation of the crystal structures of the five lanthanide compounds, as well as two reported compounds, clarifies the relationship between the molecular structure and the entity of the lanthanide(III) series, such as the stability of the lanthanide(III)-en complexes, the coordination number, and the ionic radii of the metals.

Abstract:Three new thioindate-thioantimonates [Ni(en)(3)][In2Sb2S7] (1, en = ethylenediamine), [(Ni(en)(3))](3)(en)[In6Sb6S21] (2), and [Co(tren)InSbS4] (3, tren = tris(2-aminoethyl)amine) have been solvothermally synthesized and structurally characterized. Compound 1 contains dimeric [In2S7] units built of two tetrahedral [InS4] units sharing one corner and [SbS3] trigonal-pyramids, which are interconnected to form a puckered [In2Sb2S7](n)(2n-) layer with 4-, 5- and 6-heterorings. [Ni(en)(3)](2+) complex cations as structure-directing and charge-balancing agents are located at the interlayer spaces. Compound 2 consists of a 3-D polymeric [In6Sb6S21](n)(6n-) anion, [Ni(en)(3)](2+) cations, free en molecule and a water molecule. The 3-D polymeric [In6Sb6S21](n)(6n-) anion is composed of [In2Sb2S8](n)(4n-) chains and heterometallic [In2Sb2S9] clusters, which are interconnected to give 3-D frameworks with 10-ring helical channels, 14- and 20-ring channels. Compound 3 contains dimeric [In2S6] units constructed by two tetrahedral [InS4] sharing a common edge and [SbS3] trigonal-pyramids, which link to form a new [InSbS4](n)(2n-) layer with large 10-heterorings. Each [Co(tren)](2+) group is appended within the cavity of the 10-heteroring via one Co-S-Sb bond. 3 represents the first example of the incorporation of transition metal ions into a In-S-Sb framework. Density functional theory calculation for 3 also has been performed, and the optical properties of 1-3 have been characterized by UV-vis spectra.

The present compounds exhibit semiconducting properties with absorption band edges between 2.00 and 3.03 eV.

Abstract:A series of lanthanide thiogermanates [Ln(dien)(3)](2)[Ge2S6]Cl-2 [Ln - Pr (Ia), Sm (Ib), Gd (Ic), Dy (Id); dien - diethylenetriamine], [Er-2(dien)(4)(mu-OH)(2)][Ge2S6] (II) and [Ho(trien)(en)GeS3(SH)] (III, trien = triethylenetetramine, en = ethylenediamine) have been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized. The structures of Ia-d consist of isolated [Ln(dien)(3)](3+) cations, [Ge2S6](4-) anions built up from the connection of two [GeS4] tetrahedra sharing a common edge and Cl- ions. II contains binuclear [Er-2(dien)(4)(mu-OH)(2)](4+) cations constructed by the linkage of [Er(dien)(2)](3+) ions and -OH bridging groups, and [Ge2S6](4-) anions. III contains neutral holmium-centred complexes, where the unusual protonated tetrahedral anion [GeS3(SH)](3-) acts as a chelating ligand to complex the [Ho(en)(trien)](3+) cation. A systematic investigation of six lanthanide thiogermanates and four reported compounds revealed that both the well-known lanthanide contraction and different chelating organic amines have a significant influence on the formation of lanthanide thiogermanates under solvothermal conditions. Density functional theory calculation for III has also been performed and the absorption edges of all compounds have been investigated by UV-vis spectroscopy.

Abstract:Three new lanthanoid thioarsenates [Eu(en)3(η²-AsS₄)] (1, en = ethylenediamine), [Er(teta)(en)(η²-AsS₄)] (2, teta = triethylenetetramine) and [La₂(tepa)₂(μ-η¹,η³-AsS₃)₂] (3, tepa = tetraethylenepentamine) have been solvothermally synthesized and structurally characterized. In compounds 1 and 2, the tetrathioarsenate [AsS₄]³⁻ anions act as η²-AsS₄ chelating ligands to the lanthanide complexes [Eu(en)₃]³⁺/[Er(teta)(en)]³⁺, leading to neutral molecules [Eu(en)₃(η²-AsS₄)]/[Er(teta)(en)(η²-AsS₄)], whereas the [AsS₃]³⁻ anion in compound 3 acts as a μ-η¹,η³-AsS₃ tetradentate bridging ligand to link [La(tepa)]³⁺ ions into neutral centrosymmetric [La₂(tepa)₂(μ-η¹,η³-AsS₃)₂] moieties, where a new coordination mode of μ-η¹,η³-AsS₃ is observed for the [AsS₃]³⁻ ligand. Compounds 1-3 are the only examples of solvothermally synthesized thioarsenates where the [AsS₄]³⁻/[AsS₃]³⁻ anions act as ligands in the lanthanide complex. Compound 1 exhibits a fluorescence emission at room temperature. Abstract:The title complexes, Na[Er III (Cydta)(H 2 O) 2 ] · 5H 2 O ( I ) and Na 2 [Sm III (Cydta)][Sm III (Cydta)(H 2 O) 3 ] · 11H 2 O ( II ) (Cydta is trans -1,2-cyclohexanediaminetetraacetic acid), are prepared and characterized using IR, elemental analyses, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. Crystal I belongs to triclinic system (space group P 1), which has a mononuclear eight-coordinate slightly distorted square antiprismatic conformation. The crystal data are as follows: a = 8.371(12) Å, b = 9.952(14) Å, c = 14.74(2) Å, α = 88.32(2)°, β = 76.30(2)°, γ = 87.87(2)°, V = 1192(3) Å 3 , Z = 1, ρ = 1.835 g/cm 3 , μ = 3.612 mm −1 , F (000) = 658, R = 0.0194, and wR = 0.0520 for 4130 observed reflections with I ≥2σ( I ). Crystal II belongs to monoclinic system (space group P 2 1 / n ), which has the binuclear nine-coordinate structure with tricapped trigonal prismatic conformation for Sm(1) and the pseudomonocapped square antiprismatic conformation for Sm(2). The crystal data are as follows: a = 12.283(6) Å, b = 15.626(7) Å, c = 25.875(12) Å, β = 97.962(7)°, V = 4919(4) Å 3 , Z = 4, ρ = 1.717 g/cm 3 , μ = 2.476 mm −1 , F (000) = 2536, R = 0.0781, and wR = 0.1745 for 8554 observed reflections with I ≥ 2σ( I ).

Abstract:Five new vanadoantimonates [Cd(en)3]3[Sb6V15O42(H2O)]·8H2O (1), [Ni(en)3]2[H2Sb6V15O42(H2O)]·5H2O (2), [Co(en)3]2[H2Sb6V15O42(H2O)]·5H2O (3), [H4Sb8V14O42(H2O)]·5H2O (4) and [Co(enMe)3]2[Sb8V14O42(H2O)]·4H2O (5) (en = ethylenediamine, enMe = 1,2-propanediamine) have been obtained under hydrothermal conditions and characterized by IR, UV-Vis, XRD, ESR and CD spectroscopy. Compound 1 is a chiral compound constructed from [Sb6V15O42(H2O)]6− (Sb6V15) and [Cd(en)3]2+. Compounds 2 and 3 are isostructural and isomorphous. Both compounds are chiral, each of which contains a 2-D inorganic layer formed by [H2Sb6V15O42(H2O)]4−via V–O⋯Sb contacts. Compound 4 contains a 2-D inorganic layer formed by [H4Sb8V14O42(H2O)], of which [H4Sb8V14O42(H2O)] is directed by both V–O⋯Sb and Sb–O⋯Sb interactions. Compound 5 contains a 1-D zigzag chain structure formed by [Sb8V14O42(H2O)]4− (Sb8V14) via Sb–O⋯Sb contacts.

Abstract:{[Eu(tepa)] 2 [μ 2 ‐SbS 3 ](μ 2 ‐H 2 O)} [Eu(tepa)In 4 S 9 ]·0.25tepa (tepa: tetraethylenepentamine) is solvothermally synthesized from a mixture of In, S, Sb, Eu 2 O 3 , and tepa (autoclave, 170 °C, 8 d, 65% yield).

Abstract:Two germanium thioantimonates [Co(dien)(2)](2)GeSb4S10 (1, dien = diethylenetriamine) and [Mn(en)(3)]GeSb2S6 (2, en = ethylenediamine) have been solvothermally synthesized and characterized by IR, UV/Vis, fluorescence spectroscopy, elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, powder X-ray diffraction and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. 1 contains heterometallic pseudosemicube [GeSb2S7] clusters and chain-like Sb4S10 tetramers, which are interconnected to form a unique double layer of [GeSb4S10](4-) with 10-MR helical channels. 2 features a sheet layer of [GeSb2S6](2-) with ellipse-like 12-MR, where one [GeS4] tetrahedra, one [SbS3] trigonal-pyramid and one Psi-[SbS4] trigonal bipyramid are combined to form another heterometallic [GeSb2S8] cluster as a building unit. 1 and 2 exhibit absorption edges at 2.36 eV and 2.10 eV, respectively. 2 exhibits a fluorescence emission at room temperature.
A Series of New Manganese Thioarsenates(v) Based on Different Unsaturated [mn(amine)x](2+) Complexes.

Abstract:A series of new manganese thioarsenates(V) [Mn(en)2Cu(AsVS4)]n (1, en = ethylenediamine), [Mn(dien)2][Mn(dien)(AsVS4)]2 (2, dien = diethylenetriamine), [Mn(teta)(AsVS4)]n (3, teta = triethylenetetramine), and {[Mn(dap)2][Mn(dap)(AsVS4)]2}n (4, dap = 1,2-diaminopropane) have been solvothermally synthesized and structurally characterized. 1 displays a neutral heterometallic [Mn(en)2Cu(AsVS4)]n chain built up from the linkages of [Mn(en)2]2+ complexes and infinite heterometallic [Cu(AsVS4)2−]n chains, and represents the only example of incorporation of an unsaturated [Mn(en)2]2+ complex into the 1-D [Cu(AsVS4)2−]n framework. 2 consists of a discrete {[Mn(dien)]2(AsVS4)2}2− cluster and a charge compensating complex cation [Mn(dien)2]2+. 3 shows a 1-D neutral [Mn(teta)(AsVS4)]n chain constructed by the combination of both complex [Mn(teta)]2+ ions and tetrahedral [AsVS4]3− anions. 4 exhibits a rare 2-D {[Mn(dap)2][Mn(dap)(AsVS4)]2}n layer based on the linkages of [AsVS4]3− anions and [Mn(dap)x]2+ (x = 1, 2) groups. These results show that different unsaturated [Mn(amine)x]2+ complexes are directly bonded to [AsVS4]3− anions to give different manganese thioarsenates(V), which have a significant structure directing effect on the structures of manganese thioarsenates(V) under similar solvothermal conditions. The present compounds exhibit wide-band-gap semiconducting properties with absorption band edges between 2.00 and 2.58 eV, and density functional theory calculations for compounds 1, 3 and 4 have also been performed.
