Abstract:Zhu Xi touched extensively on Buddhism in his cognition,understanding and comment,but his understanding is shallow,and comment one-sided.The cause can be traced in the fact that it is from the angle of common sense of Buddhism but not from the angle of religion,and that he made his comment with Confucianism as the only correct criterion of value.

Abstract:It is difficult for Chinese Confucian scholars to agree with Buddhist ethics, not excepting Zhu Xi. Zhu Xi considers that Buddhist ethics does not understand the principle of Heaven in recognition and not stick to ethics in practice. To him, Buddhist ethics is also selfish in aim, beyond predestined relationship in character and banishes homogeneity and discards kindness in result. However, Zhu Xi's comprehension and evaluation of Buddhism ethics is not only fall short of Buddhism ethics, essence, but also far away from the character of it. Therefore, Zhu Xi can not explain Buddhism ethics actively and exactly, and can not be influenced by Bud-dhism ethic. Hence, he also carried out a fusion between Buddhist ethics and Confucian ethics.

Abstract:Examining Zhang Zai's viewpoint of Buddhism from a cognitive perspective, we can find Zhang Zai's critical and repellent attitude towards Buddhism, which is involved in the fields of ontology, the theory of mind and the theory of cause and effect, the way of preaching and so on. On the ontological level, and from the aspects of movement of gas, the varied existential forms of void, the function of void and the reality of life, Zhang Zai proves the existence of the void, denies the Buddhist doctrine that everything is unreal and criticizes the Buddhist idea of karma on the basis of his gasification theory. And in respect of heart and Zhang Zai criticizes Buddhist thoughts of regarding the felling as the nature, destroying people,s nature, getting rid of the ethic and discussing the heaven's nature arrogantly, which indicates Zhang Zai's great wish to revive Confucianism and his firm consciousness of Confucian orthodoxy. However, it also reflects his bigoted attitude towards and misreading of Buddhism.

Abstract:This essay analyzes Zhu Xi's opinions on the differences between Confucianism and Buddhism on the basis of the following three aspects:the attribute of noumenon,the concern of ethic and the way of cultivating.As to the attribute of noumenon,Zhu Xi considered that Confucianism is "one" while Buddhism "two".In the aspect of ethic concern,Zhu Xi regarded that in Confucianism ethic was endowed by the nature.However,Buddhism considered ethic as a burden and aimed to get away from it.As to the way of cultivating,Zhu Xi held that Confucianism practiced according to the natural order.On the other hand,Buddhism sought peace and calmness in mind with intention.Therefore,Buddhism and Confucianism are different in both the root and the end.Zhu Xi reached the peak of North Song dynasty's scholars' discussions on the differences between Confucianism and Buddhism.His opinions could also inspire modern Confucians.Nevertheless,Zhu Xi's misinterpretation of Buddhism in his analysis,of course,should also be noticed.

Abstract:This article is a tentative investigation of the relationship between Heidegger and the Buddhistical thought. The main goal of this study does not lie in the textual research on the genesis of Heidegger's thought, but rather more in laying stress on the understanding of some of Heidegger's basic thoughts from the angle of Buddhist philosophy. Therefore, the actual and historical connection between the thought of Heidegger and that of Buddhism is here not at stake, the central question rather lies in whether there exist a kind of "consanguineous relationship concealed deeply", which Heidegger recognized, and a possibility of "deep interlocution", which he pointed out, between the thought of Heidegger and that of Buddhism. The investigation turns out to show that Heidegger has expressed more misunderstanding than understanding in his encounter with the Eastern thought, particularly with the Buddhist thought. But as far as the opening of the dialogues between the West and the Far East is concerned, Heidegger indeed has made much more contribution than any other European philosophers.

Abstract:Husserl's confrontation with Buddhism in his review On the Speeches of Gautama Buddha [Über die Reden Gotamo Buddhas] (1925) as well as in his manuscript Socrates - Buddha [Sokrates - Buddha] (1926) allows us to define the essential characteristics, by which he differentiates himself from the other important contemporary western thinkers. Although Husserl's knowledge of Buddhism certainly was limited - and herewith he probably does not equal Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, Bergson, Russell, Jaspers, Heidegger and Scheler, who are by all means closer to the oriental thinking -, his endeavor all the more bears witness to the respectful attitude towards the Buddhist thought, insofar as his investigation is free of the arrogance of the scientific mind and is in its entirety driven by a genuine will to a better understanding of a foreign tradition.

Abstract:In Husserls Auseinandersetzung mit dem Buddhismus in der Rezension ,,Über die Reden Gotamo Buddhas“ (1925) sowie in dem Manuskript ,,Sokrates-Buddha“ (1926) lassen sich wesentliche Eigenarten feststellen, die ihn von anderen wichtigen abendländischen Denkern der Gegenwart unterscheiden. Zwar verfügte Husserl sicher über eine eingeschränkte Kenntnis des Buddhismus und steht in dieser Hinsicht wahrscheinlich hinter Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, Bergson, Russell, Jaspers, Heidegger und Scheler zurück, welche dem orientalischen Denken durchaus näher stehen. Dennoch zeugt Husserls Bemühen umso mehr von einer respektvollen Haltung gegenüber dem buddhistischen Denken, als seine Untersuchung frei vom Hochmut der wissenschaftlichen Vernunft bleibt und ganz von dem echten Willen zu einem besseren Verständnis der fremden Tradition getragen ist.

Abstract:Gao Panlong’s viewpoint of Buddhism is that the words “nature” and “good” which Buddhism claims are different from Confucian “principle”. Either judging by the time they appeared or by the content they talked, we can draw a conclusion that Buddhism and Confucianiam are not of the same school. Buddhism has some disadvantages. It disdains ceremony, has no emotion and is also selfish. This article concludes that Gao persisted in Confucianism, obeyed Confucian doctrine and excluded Buddhism unilaterally on the one hand, which demonstrates the essence of his thought. On the other hand, there are many mistakes in Gao Panlong’s cognition and evaluation about Buddhism.

Abstract:Hu Hong's criticism of Buddhism both inherits and transcends the traditional criticism.On the one hand,his criticism is theoretically integrated,profound and rational;on the other hand,his understanding of Buddhist principles is one-sided and superficial.As a result,Hu Hong's view of Buddhism is characterized by his replacement of "justice" with "prejudice",deconstruction of "that theory" with "this theory",and his request of "the metaphysical" to meet the needs of "the concrete".In short,Hu Hong's criticism of Buddhism enriches Confucianism and contributes to its further development.

Abstract:The doctrine of Xin Zhu (形著说),though one of the constituent parts of Mou Zongsan’ Confucianist thoughts, has been seldom studied in a systematic way so far. The present paper is, therefore, meant to query this well-known point of view so as to usher in a new phase in Mou Zongsan studies. And the conclusion is that this doctrine is meanwhile of important theoretical significances, yet it fails to adopt a valid approach at the very beginning. As a result, not only it cannot crack the hard nuts in theory, but also involves itself in redundancy and repetition.

Abstract:According to Immanuel Kant, the practical wisdom reveals the meaning of ancient Greek Through the interpretations of the doctrine and the demonstration of the unity of philosophy and religious doctrine, Mou Zongsan establishes the legitimate position for Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism in the philosophy kingdom, and extends theoretical horizons for the establishment of Chinese philosophy and the comparison between Chinese and Western philosophy. Based on his interpretations of the practical wisdom , Mou Zongsan reconstructs Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism in modern philosophy by referring to Kant and carries out the of perfect doctrine. Mou's of perfect is a philosophical judgment in the meaning of the practical wisdom doctrine.

Abstract:Like any other religions, The tenet of Buddhism which is one of the big three rehgions in the world is in pursuit of standing aloof from worldly affairs, and is opposite to humanism. But when it was imported into China and combined with Chinese vulgar culture of Confucianism, Tanism and social life, it gradually got Chino-nationalization . The important character of Chinese Buddhism is its vivid agreement with worldly affairs. This paper fir st analyzed the two concepts of “Chinese Buddhism” and “the spirit of humanism”, comparing Chinese Buddhism with the original Buddhism, Buddhism with Chinese vulgar culture of Confucianism, Taoism; then expatiated on the close relation between “Chinese Buddhism” and “the spirit of humanism” in the aspect of the nature of Buddhism and human nature、 standing aloof from worldly affairs and agreement with worldly affairs, ideality and reality, in order to clarify the idealistic character of Chinese Buddhism, and thus to provide the useful revelation for the modernization of the present Chinese Buddhism.

Abstract:Through interpreting the Text and Commentaries of Zhouyi by the Chan thought of Buddhism,the famous monk Ouyi Zhixu of the late Ming dynasty (1368-1644) brought forth new ideas on the relationship be- tween Zhouyi and Buddhism and established a comparatively systematic theory communicating Zhouyi and the Chan thought in Buddhism.Based on Zhou yi chan jie (An Interpretation of Zhouyi by the Chan Thought of Buddhism) composed by Ouyi Zhixu,this paper attempts to demonstrate and reveal Zhixu's innovative idea that the connotations of Zhouyi and Buddhist thought share the same goal.

Abstract:Based on ZhuXi’s four kinds of commentation of The Analects,Chap 1. this paper focuses on Zhu’s ideas, standards and methods in interpreting the classical texts. ZhuXi insists on the idea of searching for the truth. As to the standards, Zhu’integrates and surpasses Song Learnings represented respectively by Cheng Brothers and Wang Anshi on the basis of philology and of looking for the end-result of philosophy. Apart from the Style of answer and question, ZhuXi also reaches the unification of means and ideas with the methods of intension analysis, annotation measure, citing principle, symbolizing comparison etc.

Abstract:In order to construct his ethic existentialism, Mu Zongsan gave an incorrect interpretation of some Confucian classics of the pre-Qin period and concluded that there had existed such a concept then. Abstract:In this paper the author aims to explore the philosophical essence presented in Qi Wu Lun of ZhuangZi and discusses some approaches to better understanding the subtleness of the theme and different interpretations of some key concepts in Qi Wu Lun.The author goes further by making a comparative study between some seemingly contradictory concepts presented by Qi Wu Lun and Xiao yao you respectively and reveals a fundamental harmony between them.Finally,the author proposes some reading strategies for understanding of philosophical ideas in ZhuangZi: start with the fables first and then study the inertial articles,the most recommendable of which is to read Qi Wu Lu and Xiao yao you comparatively so as to develop one's concrete and abstract logic reasoning competency.

Abstract:The "allies" of LaoZhuang's philosophy and Buddhism are dependent on their similar value orientation and thinking pattern of which the formation is determined by the highest category properties.Both LaoZhuang and Buddhism regard philosophy as an extreme highest existence that exceeds the limitation,the treatment,the difference,relative unlimitation,non-prescriptiveness and primordial nature.Clarifying the notion "voidness" is the first step for understanding the view of Buddhism philosophy.LaoZhuang's philosophy and Buddhism emphasize on using negative thinking pattern and strongly advocate breaking and transcending respective status of all things,achieving their common state called "big certainty" and forming their common value orientation,namely "breaking falsity,showing truth".
