Abstract:Two wild tomato species and three cultivars were used and stressed with 1/3-strength and 1/2-strength artificial seawater when their seedlings had 4 true leaves. After salt treatment for 15 days, plant dry weight,root/shoot ratio, leaf water content and POD isozymes were analysed. The results showed that the plant dry weights in wild species were markedly higher than that in the cultivars under salt stress.Wild species had higher leaf water content and root/shoot ratio, and having better adaptability to salinity than the cultivars.Between the two wild species, the salt tolerance in Lycopersicon pennellii LA716 was better than that of Lycopersicon peruvianum LA111.Among the three cultivars, the salt tolerance in Jiaonong No.1 and Jiaonong No.2 was significantly greater than Xianfeng 98-7.The POD isozymes analysis indicated that there were significant difference in the isozymes bands quantity and activity between wild species and cultivars, especially in POD2 band. Its activity was greatly stronger in wild species than that of cultivars.
