Perioperative Treatment in Esophagocardial Carcinoma Patients with Diabetes Mellitus

Abstract:Objective To investigate the perioperative treatment in esophagocardial carcinoma patients with diabetes mellitus. Methods The clinical data were collected from 38 cases of esophagocardial cacinoma patients with diabetes mellitus who undergo thoracotomy in Cancer Center of Sun Yat-sen University between Jan 2002 and Dec 2006 and their perioperative management and the incidence of postoperative complications were analyzed.Results Liver damage accounted for 39.5%,electrolyte disorders accounted for 65.8%,arrhythmia accounted for 81.6%,infection accounted for 31.6%,anastomotic leakage accounted for 27.8% and hypoproteinemia accounted for 63.2% in 38 cases of esophagocardial carcinoma patients with diabetes mellitus.The incidence of infection,electrolyte disorders and anastomotic leakage in controlling blood glucose group was lower than that of the high blood glucose group(P<0.05).Conclusion The incidence of complications is high in esophagocardial carcinoma patients with diabetes mellitus.Controlling blood glucose in perioperative period can obvious reduce perioperative complications.
