Abstract:In this paper, we investigate impulsive Cohen–Grossberg networks with distributed delays. By Lyapunov–Kravsovskii functional and homeomorphism theory, some new sufficient conditions are established for the existence and global exponential stability of a unique equilibrium without strict conditions imposed on self-regulation functions. The obtained sufficient conditions are easy to verify, meanwhile we remove the usual assumption that the activation functions are bounded and our results improve the previously known results. It is believed that these results are significant and useful for the design and applications of Cohen–Grossberg networks. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Abstract:Based on Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional or Lyapunov-Razumikhin functional method and invariant set principle, we presented a new method to estimate the domain of attraction for general recurrent neural networks with time-varying delays. Convex optimization method is proposed to enlarge and estimate the domain of attraction. Local exponential stability conditions are derived, which can be expressed as linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) in terms of all the varying parameters and hence can be easily checked in both analysis and design.

Abstract:We consider the stabilization of discrete-time nonlinear OdE systems under discrete transport PdEs which convect in opposite directions. An explicit feedback law that compensates discrete transport PdEs actuator dynamics is designed. Global asymptotic stability of the closed-loop system is proved with the aid of a Lyapunov function. The feedback design is illustrated through an example. The proposed design in this paper allows the delay to be arbitrarily long and timevarying. Furthermore, our predictor feedback law in discrete time is explicit as the predictor state is computed by an algebraic equation.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a class of neutral stochastic differential systems with variable delays and give sufficient conditions to ensure that the zero solution is asymptotically stable in the mean square by means of a generalisation of Banach's contraction principle. These conditions do not require the boundedness of delays, nor do they ask for a fixed sign on the coefficient functions. The results are shown to improve the previous globally stable results derived in the literature.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the robust stability of lurie nonlinear discrete time-varying delay system. The initial lurie nonlinear discrete system with time-varying delay is converted into two interconnected subsystems by using a model transformation. One of the subsystems has no uncertainty and delay and can be analyzed stability by Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional method. Then using an input-output (IO) approach which is an application of the scaled small gain theorem to obtain the stability condition of the lurie nonlinear discrete system. A numerical example is provided to demonstrate the applicability of the presented method.

Abstract:The Stochastic response, stability and reliability of quasi-linear systems subject to multi-time-delayed feedback control and wide-band random excitation are studied by using the stochastic averaging method for quasi Hamiltonian systems. It is verified that the time delay affect the response, the asymptotic stability and the first-passage time greatly, but the deterioration can be almost eliminated if the delay time can be set correctly. All the results are confirmed by Monte Carlo simulation.

Abstract:In this paper, a more general third-order chaotic system with attraction/repulsion function is introduced on the basis of [Duan et al., 2005]. A gallery of chaotic attractors, bifurcation diagrams and Lyapunov exponent spectra are presented to show the interesting phenomena of the given system. Based on the absolute stability theory and linear matrix inequality (LMI), a simple method of chaos control for the system is proposed and a stabilizing controller is derived such that chaos oscillations of the system disappear and all chaotic trajectories of it are led to certain equilibrium. Numerical simulations are provided to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed method.

Abstract:Abstract We present estimates of the region of attraction of a class of non-linear integral delay equations. The approach follows the same lines as the Lyapunov method by the first approximation for estimating the attraction region of ordinary and delay differential equations, which uses Lyapunov functions or Lyapunov functionals associated with the linear part of the non-linear equations. The results are illustrated by application problems to the propagation of electric pulses in the heart dynamics and non-linear predictor control.

Abstract:This paper addresses the estimation of the domain of attraction for discrete-time nonlinear systems where the vector field is subject to changes. First, the paper considers the case of switched systems, where the vector field is allowed to arbitrarily switch among the elements of a finite family. Second, the paper considers the case of hybrid systems, where the state space is partitioned into several regions described by polynomial inequalities, and the vector field is defined on each region independently from the other ones. In both cases, the problem consists of computing the largest sublevel set of a Lyapunov function included in the domain of attraction. An approach is proposed for solving this problem based on convex programming, which provides a guaranteed inner estimate of the sought sublevel set. The conservatism of the provided estimate can be decreased by increasing the size of the optimisation problem. Some numerical examples illustrate the proposed approach.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to study the dynamical behavior of non-autonomous stochastic hybrid systems with delays. By general Krylov-Bogolyubov’s method, we first obtain the sufficient conditions for the existence of an evolution system of measures of the non-autonomous stochastic system and also give some easily verifiable conditions. We then prove a sufficient condition for convergence of evolution systems of measures as the delay approaches zero. As an application of the abstract theory, we first prove the existence of evolution systems of measures for stochastic system with time-vary delays, which comes from feedback control problem based on discrete-time state observations. Furthermore, when observation interval goes to zero, we show every limit point of a sequence of evolution system of measures of the non-autonomous stochastic system must be a evolution system of measures of the limiting system.

Abstract:This paper investigates the problem of exponential stability analysis for discrete-time singular systems with time-varying delay. The delay enters into the singular systems in a random way, and such randomly occurring delay (ROD) obeys a certain Bernoulli distributed white noise sequence. By employing the linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach, a sufficient condition is established to ensure the considered systems exponentially mean-square stable. Two numerical examples are given to show the usefulness of the obtained result.

Abstract:Starting from the delay Liénard and van der Pol equations with time delay, this paper represents an attempt to give an introductory presentation of dynamics for a class of nonlinear systems with time delay and emphasizes the recent development on this field in china. It is clearly seen that the time delay occurred in systems can lead to the rich dynamical behaviors such as death island, Hopf bifurcation, double Hopf bifurcation, period-doubling bifurcation, phase locked (periodic) and phase shifting solutions, co-existing motions, quasi-periodic motion and even chaos. In the quantitative and qualitative treatment of the analytical method, a new method, called perturbation-incremental scheme (PIS), is introduced by two steps, namely perturbation and increment for continuation to the critical value at a simple Hopf bifurcation. This paper shows that time delay may be used as a simple but efficient “switch” to control motions of a system: either from order to complex motions or from complex to order motions for different applications. As well as the PIS can bypass and avoid the tedious calculation of the center manifold reduction (CMR) and normal form.

Abstract:This note investigates the control problems for a class of Markovian jump systems with time-varying delays and actuators saturation. With direct Lyapunov methods, sufficient conditions for local stochastic stability is derived, and an estimate of domain of attraction is presented correspondingly. Numerical simulations are given in the end to demonstrate the validity of the results.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to dealing with the issue of the estimation of the domain of attraction (DOA) for highly nonlinear neutral complex networks (HNNCNs) with time delays. Firstly, by the Razumikhin approach, we establish several novel lemmas on the estimation of DOA for highly nonlinear neutral differential systems. The cases of bounded non-differentiable delays and unbounded proportional delays are discussed, respectively. Subsequently, by utilizing the proposed lemmas, combining the Lyapunov stability theory and inequality technique, the estimation of DOA on HNNCNs with bounded delays or proportional delays is derived when the chosen control gain is sufficiently large. If initial values start from DOA, then the states of systems will exponentially or polynomially converge to the equilibrium point, which means that the local exponential or polynomial synchronization of HNNCNs is realized. Additionally, the weighted outer-coupling matrix of complex networks is not required to be symmetric, which means that the derived results can be applied to both the undirected networks and directed networks. Finally, several numerical examples are provided to illustrate the feasibility of theoretical findings.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a nonautonomous two-species impulsive competitive system with infinite delays. By the impulsive comparison theorem and some mathematical analysis, we investigate the permanence, extinction and global attractivity of the system, as well as the influence of impulse perturbation on the dynamic behaviors of this system. For the logistic type impulsive equation with infinite delay, our results improve those of Xuxin Yang, Weibing Wang and Jianhua Shen [Permanence of a logistic type impulsive equation with infinite delay, Applied Mathematics Letters, 24(2011), 420-427]. For the corresponding nonautonomous two-species impulsive competitive system without delays, we discuss its permanence, extinction and global attractivity, which weaken and complement the results of Zhijun Liu and Qinglong Wang [An almost periodic competitive system subject to impulsive perturbations, Applied Mathematics and Computation, 231(2014), 377-385].

Abstract:This paper is mainly concerned with the existence of chaos in a class of controlled partial difference equations via delay controllers. Using the snap-back repeller theory, four criteria of chaos in the sense of both Devaney and Li-Yorke in this system are established when the equation and the controller satisfy several relatively weak conditions. Moreover, two examples with computer simulations of their dynamical behaviors and the trends of the largest Lyapunov exponents with the initial values and parameters are discussed to illustrate the correctness of the theoretical results.

Underapproximating Safe Domains of Attraction for Discrete-Time Systems Using Implicit Representations of Backward Reachable Sets

Abstract:Analyzing and certifying stability and attractivity of nonlinear systems is a topic of research interest that has been extensively investigated by control theorists and engineers for many years. Despite that, accurately estimating domains of attraction for nonlinear systems remains a challenging task, where available estimation approaches are either conservative or limited to low-dimensional systems. In this work, we propose an iterative approach to accurately underapproximate safe (i.e., state-constrained) domains of attraction for general discrete-time autonomous nonlinear systems. Our approach relies on implicit representations of safe backward reachable sets of safe regions of attraction, where such regions can be be easily constructed using, e.g., quadratic Lyapunov functions. The iterations of our approach are monotonic (in the sense of set inclusion), where each iteration results in a safe region of attraction, given as a sublevel set, that underapproximates the safe domain of attraction. The sublevel set representations of the resulting regions of attraction can be efficiently utilized in verifying the inclusion of given points of interest in the safe domain of attraction. We illustrate our approach through two numerical examples, involving two- and four-dimensional nonlinear systems.

Abstract:This paper addresses the dynamic properties of a class of continuous-time switched nonlinear systems with perturbations and delays. With the assumption that the nominal system is exponentially stable, it is shown that the trajectory of the perturbed system exponentially decays to or asymptotically approaches origin provided that the perturbation exponentially decays to or asymptotically approaches origin. These properties are then applied to cascade systems for their stability analysis. It is proven that a delayed switched nonlinear cascade system is exponentially stable if and only if all subsystems obtained from the cascade system by deleting the coupling terms are exponentially stable. A sufficient condition ensuring asymptotic stability of a cascade system is also proposed.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate dynamical behaviors of a large class of delayed differential systems with discontinuous right-hand side. This class of delayed differential systems includes Hopfield and Cellular neural networks with discontinuous activations as special cases. We prove that under some mild conditions, this system has a unique almost-periodic solution, which is globally exponential stable.
