Abstract:Phytochemical investigation of the rhizomes of Panax japonicus C. A. Meyer (Araliaceae) resulted in the isolation of two new dammarane-type triterpenoid saponins, yesanchinoside R1 (1) and yesanchinoside R2 (2), together with one new natural product, 6"'-O-acetylginsenoside Re (3). In addition, 25 known compounds, including 23 triterpenoid saponins, 426, beta-sitosterol 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (27), and ecdysterone (28), were also identified. The known saponins 12, 15, and 1822 were reported for the first time from the title plant. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of detailed spectroscopic analyses, including 1D- and 2D-NMR techniques, as well as acidic hydrolysis.

Abstract:Four new dammarane-type triterpenoid saponins, namely notoginsenosides SFt 1 -SFt 4 ( 1–4 ) were isolated from the steamed leaves of Panax notoginseng (Burk.) F. H. Chen (Araliaceae), together with 17 known saponins. Their structures were established on the basis of detailed spectroscopic analyses and acidic hydrolysis. The known ginsenosides Rk2 and Rh3 were obtained from P. notoginseng for the first time. All of these new saponins showed no in vitro cytotoxicity against five human cancer cell lines (HL-60, SMMC-7712, A-549, MCF-7, and SW480).

Abstract:Nine new minor dehydrogenated and cleavaged dammarane-type triterpenoid saponins, namely notoginsenosides ST6-ST14 (1-9) were isolated from the steamed roots of Panax notoginseng, together with 14 known ones. Among them, 5-7 and 21-22 were protopanaxadiol type and the left 18 compounds, including 1-4, 8-20, and 23 were protopanaxatriol type saponins. Their structures were identified by extensive analysis of MS, 1D and 2D NMR spectra, and acidic hydrolysis. Resulted from the side chain cleavage, the new saponins 1 and 2 featured in a ketone group at C-25, and 3-5 had an aldehyde unit at C-23. The known saponins 12, 16 and 18 displayed the enhancing potential of neurite outgrowth of NGF-mediated PC12 cells at a concentration of 10 μM, while 20 exhibited acetyl cholinesterase inhibitory activity, with IC50 value of 13.97 μM.

Abstract:Three new polyacetylenic oleanane-type triterpenoids, baisanqisaponins A-C (1-3), and one new oleanane-type triterpenoid, chikusetsusaponin-V ethyl ester (4), together with 19 known compounds (5-23), were isolated from the roots of Panax japonicus. The structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analyses and chemical methods. Compounds 1-3 feature a rare panaxytriol group containing a polyacetylene on the saponin skeleton. Neuroprotective activity was evaluated for compounds 1-17, and angiotensin II-induced vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation inhibition was tested for compounds 5-7 and 10-12.

Abstract:Eight darmarane-type saponins, named as sanchirhinoside D (1), 3β,6α-20(S)-6,20-bis(β-d-glucopyranosyloxy)-3-hydroxy dammar-24-en-12-one (2), 20(R)-ginsenoside Rg3 (3), ginsenosides F2 (4) and Rd (5), gypenoside XVII (6), ginsenosides Rb1 (7) and ginsenoside V (8) were isolated from the 70% ethanol extract of Panax notoginseng roots by silica gel, octadecyl silane (ODS) column chromatography and HPLC, and identified by chemical and physical methods, especially by spectral analysis. Among them, 1 was a new compound and 2 was a new natural product.

Compounds 15, 19 and 22-24 are reported for the first time from the title plant.

Abstract:Three new dammarane-type triterpene ginsenosides, together with six known ginsenosides, were isolated from the leaves of Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer. The new saponins were named as ginsenoside Rh11, ginsenoside Rh12, and ginsenoside Rh13. Their structures were elucidated as (20S)-3,6,12,20-tetrahydroxydammara-25-ene-24-one 20-O--d-glucopyranoside (1), (20S)-3,12,20,24,25-pentahydroxydammarane 20-O--d-glucopyranoside (2), and (20S,23E)-3,12,20,25-tetrahydroxydammara-23-ene 20-O--d-glucopyranoside (3) on the basis of 1D and 2D NMR experiments and mass spectra. The known ginsenosides were identified as ginsenoside M7cd, ginsenoside Rg6, ginsenoside Rb3, gypenoside XVII, gypenoside IX, and 20-(E)-ginsenoside F4.

Abstract:A new dammarane-type triterpenoid saponin, suanzaoside A ( 1 ) along with one known analogue 3- O -[ α -L-rhamnopyranosyl(1→2)- α -L-arabinopyranosyl-]-30- O -[ β -D-glucopyranosyl-(1→2)- β -D-glucopyranosyl]-3 β ,25,30-trihydroxy-16-one-20 R ,24 R -epoxydammarane ( 2 ), were isolated from the leaves of sour jujube. The structure of these isolated compounds was elucidated by HRESIMS, 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy, and literature comparison. In addition, the anti-inflammatory activities were further tested in LPS-induced RAW264.7 macrophage.

The structures of the new compounds were elucidated as 3 beta,6 alpha,12 beta,24 xi-tetrahydroxydammar-(E)-20(22),25-diene 6-O-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 -> 2)-beta-D-glucopyranoside (1), 3 beta,12 beta,24 xi-trihydroxy-dammar-(E)-20 (22),25-diene 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 -> 2)-beta-D-glucopyranoside (2), 3 beta,6 alpha,12 beta-trihydroxy-dammar-(E)-20(22),24-diene 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (3), and 3-oxo-6 alpha,12 beta,20(S)-trihydroxydammar-24-ene 6-O-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 -> 2)-beta-D-glucopyranoside (4) by means of extensive spectroscopic and chemical methods, respectively. Based on FABMS, HRFABMS, IR, 1H, 13C, and 2D-NMR (HSQC, HMBC, and COSY) spectral data, the structures of the new compounds were elucidated as 6-O--d-xylopyranosyl-20-O--d-xylopyranosyl-(16)--d-glucopyranosyldammar-24-ene-3,6,12,20(S)tetraol (1) and 6-O--d-xylopyranosyl-(12)--d-glucopyranosyldammar-22-ene-(trans)-3,6,12,20(S), 25-pentaol (2). Compounds 3, 4, 13, and 22 were isolated from P. notoginseng for the first time.

In addition, a pair of new phenolic glycosides (3a and 3b) was also isolated together with two known compounds. Their structures were elucidated by HRESIMS, 1D- and 2D-NMR spectra. Abstract:Six triterpenoid saponins, including one new compound, quinquenoside F-6 (1), and five known compounds ginsenoside Re(2), ginsenoside Rg(1)(3), ginsenoside Rg(2)(4), ginsenoside Rh-1(5) and pseudo-ginsenoside F-11(6), were isolated from the fruits of Panax quinquefolium L., and the structure of compound 1 was elucidated as 6-O-beta-d-glucopyranosyl-20-O-[alpha-l-arabino- furanosyl-(1-6)-beta-d-glucopyranosyl]-dammar-24-ene-3 beta, 6 alpha, 12 beta, 20S-tetraol by the combination of the analysis of spectroscopic data and chemical evidences. The complete signal assignments of the six compounds were carried out by means of 2D NMR spectral analysis.
