Abstract:This paper provides an in-depth study and analysis of music education to improve the mental health of college students in the context of 5G and for practical application. How to explore the ideas and methods of using music education to channel and resolve the psychological problems of this student group and then help them shape a healthy and upward psychological state, based on field research on the psychological and emotional health of contemporary higher education students, becomes an important issue that needs to be solved in front of most music educators. Musical emotions are not only related to the acoustic properties of music but also closely related to the age, gender, musical background, and social cognition of individuals. To explore the neural mechanisms by which musical rhythm affects emotional processing, it is necessary not only to achieve reasonable manipulation of rhythmic variables but also to effectively control for relevant additional variables, to clarify the relationship between rhythm and musical emotion from a theoretical perspective, and to provide operational guidance significance for bringing into play the mental health value of musical emotion. Discuss the commonalities and mutual assistance between the interactional music classroom and humanistic and positive psychology in terms of ideological connotations. Abstract:Music aesthetic education can affect people’s emotions through hearing, thereby directly affecting their hearts, sublimating their emotions, and eventually purifying their hearts. Music can enrich college students’ imagination and also make them fully relaxed, thereby making their personality livelier and more cheerful and enabling them to better complete their learning tasks. This study proposes a curriculum design of music education based on the research on the regulating effect of music education on college students’ mental health (MH). Results indicated that music aesthetic appreciation has evident intervention effect on the overall level of MH and interpersonal sensitivity, anxiety, and terror of the experimental group. Accordingly, the curriculum of music education in colleges and universities runs through the appreciation of classic classics with a vertical line of music historical development. Hence, students are able to appreciate popular songs and also understand the musical styles and aesthetic orientations in certain stages of music development. Therefore, the proposed music education course takes the adjustment of college students’ MH as the guiding ideology, emphasizes the main position of students’ MH, encourages students to actively construct knowledge, strengthens cooperation and communication, and better completes teaching tasks.
Impact of music learning on students' psychological development with mediating role of self-efficacy and self-esteem

Abstract:Professionals and academics have recently placed a greater emphasis on comprehending the elements that go into improving students' psychological wellbeing. Students frequently face major obstacles as a result of the rigorous nature of academic life, which can result in problems like tension, depression and other psychological health concerns. These complications have a long-lasting influence on their future aspirations in addition to affecting their academic achievement. This study determined the effects of music learning on students' academic performance and psychological well-being. The mediating role of self-efficacy and self-esteem are also examined in this study. The data is collected from 326 students in Chinese universities and applied structural equation modeling for empirical analysis. The findings show that music education improves the students' psychological well-being, which in turn improves their academic performance. Additionally, psychological health is a major factor in improving the academic performance. There is significant mediating impact of self-efficacy and self-esteem in relationship between mental well-being and music education. To improve students' psychological health, it is suggested that policy makers should consider the integration of music education into academic settings.

Acquiring musical knowledge increases music liking: Evidence from a neurophysiological study

Abstract:People possessing musical knowledge tend to enjoy music more, but the linkage remains to be determined. Based on the shared affective motion experience model for music appreciation, we hypothesized that acquiring musical knowledge about the music itself, for example, an analytical understanding of music elements and the related emotional expressions, would increase music liking. To test the hypothesis, we asked 48 participants to learn analytical or historical information about a piece of music by watching a pre-recorded teaching video. Learners' physiological responses, such as skin conductance and heart rate, were recorded during learning. The increase of music liking was observed after both types of knowledge acquisition, but more so for analytical knowledge. Notably, acquiring analytical knowledge made learners' skin conductance more similar, indicating the alignment of physiological responses. This physiological similarity, correlated with analytical knowledge similarity, could mediate the effect of knowledge acquisition on music liking. In sum, this study reveals the impact of analytical knowledge on music enjoyment and the associated neurophysiological mechanism. It extends the theoretical framework of shared affective motion experience to explain how musical knowledge influences music appreciation.

Abstract:In recent years, there has been a growing interest in scholars and practitioners to explore the factors that lead to an improvement in Students’ psychological wellbeing. Due to the tough challenges faced by students during their academic life, severe issues of stress, anxiety, and other mental health issues emerge, which affect their academic performance and have a long-lasting impact on their future careers. The pandemic accelerates the stress levels, anxiety, and mental issues of students. The main purpose of this study was to explore how music education impacts on Students’ psychological wellbeing and academic performance. This study also investigates the mediating effect of self-esteem and self-efficacy. To the best of our knowledge, there has been little to no study exploring the relationship of music education on the psychological wellbeing and performance of students, especially from the perspective of Asian countries. This study was conducted in undergraduate and graduate institutions of China. This study was quantitative in nature and data were collected from 319 respondents. The structural equation modeling (SEM) technique was employed for data analysis. Results reveal that music education has a significant positive impact on psychological wellbeing, which improves Students’ academic performance. Moreover, psychological wellbeing also has a significant and positive impact on Students’ academic performance. Self-efficacy and self-esteem significantly mediate the relationship between music education and psychological wellbeing. The findings of this study open new avenues for future research in music education and psychological wellbeing. This study suggests that the policymakers and practitioners should make such policies that encourage educational institutes to adopt music education to improve the psychological wellbeing of students.

Abstract:In Flourish, the positive psychologist Seligman (2011) identifies five commonly recognized factors that are characteristic of human flourishing or well-being: (1) "positive emotion," (2) "relationships," (3) "engagement," (4) "achievement," and (5) "meaning" (p. 24). Although there is no settled set of necessary and sufficient conditions neatly circumscribing the bounds of human flourishing (Seligman, 2011), we would mostly likely consider a person that possessed high levels of these five factors as paradigmatic or prototypical of human flourishing. Accordingly, if we wanted to go about the practical task of actually increasing our level of well-being, we ought to do so by focusing on practically increasing the levels of the five factors that are characteristic of well-being. If, for instance, an activity such as musical engagement can be shown to positively influence each or all of these five factors, this would be compelling evidence that an activity such as musical engagement can positively contribute to one's living a flourishing life. I am of the belief that psychological research can and should be used, not only to identify and diagnose maladaptive psychological states, but identify and promote adaptive psychological states as well. In this article I advance the hypothesis and provide supporting evidence for the claim that musical engagement can positively contribute to one's living a flourishing life. Since there has not yet been a substantive and up-to-date investigation of the possible role of music in contributing to one's living a flourishing life, the purpose of this article is to conduct this investigation, thereby bridging the gap and stimulating discussion between the psychology of music and the psychology of well-being.

Abstract:With many activities vying for students’ time and attention, helping young musicians achieve their potential while inspiring them to continue engaging with music throughout their lifetime is a vital part of the music educator’s role. To accomplish this important function, the teacher may strive to fulfill students’ psychological needs, leading to improved student achievement and well-being, enjoyment of learning, and greater participation in class, among other positive outcomes. Through an understanding of the basic human needs for autonomy, relatedness, and competence, this article applies these fundamental components of human psychology to the music classroom. Teachers can readily implement meaningful activities to guide students in lifelong music learning, leading to increased engagement and decreased attrition in musical study.

Abstract:Psychology of Music, Ahead of Print. This article presents the findings of an intervention aimed at promoting positive emotions in music performance, as positive emotions are intrinsically valuable and can have associated benefits. The intervention sought to help participants conceive performance in more meaningful, self-transcendent terms. This study investigated whether the intervention helped performers to change their approach to performance; whether an increase in meaningfulness and self-transcendence led to more positive performance-related emotions; and whether an increase in positive emotions resulted in higher perceived quality of the performance. Comparison of self-report measures pre- and post-intervention indicated that after the intervention, participants approached performance in a more meaningful, self-transcendent manner. Specifically, they were more focused on the value of music, privilege of performing, and benefits for the audience. They also reported more rewarding performance experiences: they reported more joy, engagement, and self-confidence; more inspiration and connection with their audiences; and less anxiety. In addition, they reported being able to give better performances. None of these changes were found with a randomly assigned wait list control group. We conclude that an intervention designed to change performers' conceptions of the meaningfulness of performing can have beneficial impacts on the quality of that experience.

Abstract:Objectives: College stage is a critical period for students to become mature and independent, and it is also a period of rapid changes in physical and mental development. Methods: They need not only good ideological and moral qualities, scientific and cultural qualities and strong body, but also good psychological characteristics. With the implementation of the enrollment expansion policy in colleges and universities, the number of college students has increased sharply, and the mental health problems of college students have become more prominent. Results: Many students are in a state of psychological abnormality, but they have not reached the degree of illness, that is, mental sub-health state. In the current high-speed development society, college students are facing more pressures and challenges due to academic, employment, economic, emotional and other comprehensive factors such as uncoordinated interpersonal relationships. Music education, as an aesthetic education, plays a unique role in adjusting the sub-health psychology of college students. Conclusion: This paper discusses the promotion of college music education to the development of college students’ mental health, and analyzes the methods of improving college students’ mental sub-health state by college music education.

Abstract:Research has investigated psychological processes in an attempt to explain how and why people appreciate music. Three programs of research have shed light on these processes. The first focuses on the appreciation of musical structure. The second investigates self-oriented responses to music, including music-evoked autobiographical memories, the reinforcement of a sense of self, and benefits to individual health and wellbeing. The third seeks to explain how music listeners become sensitive to the causal and contextual sources of music making, including the biomechanics of performance, knowledge of musicians and their intentions, and the cultural and historical context of music making. To date, these programs of research have been carried out with little interaction, and the third program has been omitted from most psychological enquiries into music appreciation. In this paper, we review evidence for these three forms of appreciation. The evidence reviewed acknowledges the enormous diversity in antecedents and causes of music appreciation across contexts, individuals, cultures, and historical periods. We identify the inputs and outputs of appreciation, propose processes that influence the forms that appreciation can take, and make predictions for future research. Evidence for source sensitivity is emphasized because the topic has been largely unacknowledged in previous discussions. This evidence implicates a set of unexplored processes that bring to mind causal and contextual details associated with music, and that shape our appreciation of music in important ways. Abstract:In 1977, the American psychologist Albert Bandura first proposed the concept of Self-efficacy. Once proposed, this concept has had an impact on several research fields. In the field of music learning, self-efficacy, as the intrinsic psychological motivation in the process of music learning, is an important factor affecting students' music learning. This paper examines the self-efficacy status of undergraduates majoring in Music in China using both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Based on the results of 50 questionnaires and 6 interviews, this study further proposed possible strategies to enhance students' self-efficacy from a constructivist approach. Constructivism learning theory emphasizes the dynamic nature of knowledge, the richness and difference of students' experience, and the active construction of learning, social interaction and situation, which has certain theoretical value and practical significance for college music education. This paper is expected to provide future researchers and educators in music education with research-driven theoretical support on how to facilitate undergraduates' music learning.

Abstract:This paper explores how music education affects preservice teachers' learning ability. A review and analysis of relevant research literature found that music education positively affects preservice teachers' learning ability. Specifically, music education can improve preservice teachers' cognitive, emotional, and creative thinking abilities. The enhancement of these competencies mainly stems from the emotional experience, cognitive training, and creative thinking that music education has. In addition, there are differences in the impact of music education on the learning abilities of different types and levels of preservice teachers, which are related to factors such as individual differences, educational background, and music education approaches. Therefore, differentiated teaching regarding individual differences and educational backgrounds is needed in music education. Finally, this paper suggests applying music education in preservice teacher training, including increasing the time and content of music education and encouraging preservice teachers to participate in music composition. These suggestions can provide reference and guidance for applying music education in preservice education.

Abstract:Abstract: Music education, as an important discipline, has always received attention from the education and music communities. Music is not just an art form, but the carrier of human expression, cognition and behavior. However, there are differences in views on the purpose and content of music education. Different cultural backgrounds in China and the West place different emphasis on music education. By comparing music education philosophies, under different concepts, one can understand the music education practices and concepts of different cultures, thereby promoting cross-cultural communication and understanding. Philosophy is a discipline that explores fundamental issues and principles, emphasizing speculative and critical thinking. In China’s history, philosophical ideas have played an important role in shaping music education. Ancient China’s philosophical ideas, such as Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism, have had a profound impact on the understanding and education of music. In order to better understand the internal connection between musical art forms and expressive behavior, and to gain a deeper understanding of the essence and significance of music, this article adopted a comparative research method from a philosophical perspective to debate the concept of music education and explore its essence and goals. By comparing different perspectives, the aim is to propose a comprehensive concept of music education to promote students’ comprehensive development. This article started from the dialectical relationship between the essence of music and philosophy, and then analyzed different music education concepts from a philosophical perspective. Finally, from a philosophical perspective, it studied the inspiration for music education reform. Music education should not only focus on skills and performance, but also on the cultivation of aesthetic and thinking abilities. Analyzing from a philosophical perspective, we can better understand the essence and significance of music, explore the value of music education, solve problems in it and promote sustainable development of music education. Abstract:Folk vocal music is an important part of music majors in colleges and universities (CaU), and the core of music education is AE. Therefore, in vocal music teaching, students should be guided to understand the beauty of music and to use vocal performance as an aesthetic experience so as to cultivate their aesthetic appreciation ability. As one of the national musical instruments, Chinese Zither has a unique musical charm. Its traditional aesthetic value is high, which can bring people beautiful music enjoyment. This paper takes Chinese Zither as an example to study the aesthetic teaching methods in college national instrumental music teaching. In the process of research, we use a combination of a variety of research methods to study two classes of music major in our school. This paper first uses the literature analysis method to elaborate the AE and then uses the questionnaire survey method to study the college students’ understanding and views on the national instrumental music. Then, through the case analysis method, it analyzes the achievements and interest changes of the students after the introduction of aesthetic teaching in Chinese Zither teaching. At the same time, through expert interviews, it summarizes the teaching of national instrumental music in the CaU aesthetic teaching strategy and the use of mathematical analysis on the relevant data processing. This study found that before the introduction of aesthetic teaching in Chinese Zither teaching, the good rate of class 2 students was only 33.33%, and after the introduction of aesthetic teaching in Chinese Zither teaching, the good rate of students in class 2 reached 86.67%. Therefore, the introduction of aesthetic teaching in Chinese Zither teaching can effectively improve students’ learning level. This also shows that in the teaching of ethnic music, the introduction of aesthetic teaching and the combination of aesthetic art and music art can effectively improve the learning level of students.

Abstract:The development of college students' and adolescents' mental and physical health is of prime importance and has a crucial role in China's progression. Different types of teachings and methods are envisioned and implemented to achieve this milestone. These methods include therapy and counseling, stress management, mediation, physical activities and creative activities. Music teaching is one of the methods that is used to improve the quality of human mental health. Initially, this research study defines the music teachings and the methods utilized for imparting music teachings. It elaborates on the importance of mental health, issues due to mental health, and their causes in college students. Second, it studies the relationship between music teachings and human physiology. It presents theories of human physiology and algorithms for measuring the quality of human mental health. Third, this study evaluates the impact of music teachings on the mental growth of adolescents and performs statistical analysis using big data in a three-tier fashion. It consists of the Assessment Session Check-In mental health test model, mental health analysis theory, and theory of favorable environment. The study also incorporates the 90-category symptom self-assessment analysis (SCL-90) and the self-measurement health rating analysis calculation method and uses SQL Server for statistical implementation. Finally, an evaluation study compares adolescents with and without music teachings using three parameters, i.e., physical health, mental health, and physiology. The statistical results are compared with results obtained from the existing statistical methods, which reveal that mental health gains are visible, with music study students outperforming ordinary students by 20% on the SCL-90 and having 14% higher mental health index scores. The comprehensive mental health score shows a significant 18% improvement over time. After two years of music instruction, the number of psychologically unwell pupils dropped by 28%, and extreme psychological issues has substantially decreased by 50% or more. This study can significantly improve students' understanding and approach to mental health, particularly in music education. It provides compelling evidence of the positive impact of music study on mental well-being, potentially influencing educational practices and policies.

Methods: We first established a mathematical model for the degree of order and degree of collaboration of the complex system for the collaborative improvement of preschool children's music appreciation ability and mental health level; and then, based on the evolutionary game theory, we analyzed the choices of strategy in the 2 subsystems???music appreciation ability cultivation and mental health improvement???in the process of collaborative cultivation; finally, we investigated the preschool children's music appreciation ability and mental health level before and after the implementation of the collaborative improvement mechanism, and conducted regression analysis and correlation analysis on preschool children's music appreciation ability and mental health level. Results: We found that with the improvement of music appreciation ability, the mental health level of preschool children also improved. After the implementation of the collaborative improvement mechanism, all indicators of the music appreciation ability and mental health level of the preschool children were higher than those before the implementation of the mechanism. Conclusions: There is a positive correlation between preschool children's music appreciation ability and their mental health level, and the collaborative improvement mechanism proposed is effective.
