Abstract:In this paper, we present the VUV-vis spectroscopic properties of Na2GdF2PO4:Tb3+ phosphors prepared at 700 degrees C. The phosphors exhibit some favorable luminescence characteristics such as intensive and broad absorption near 147/172 nm, high bright emission in whole doping concentration, and tunable chromaticity coordinates from blue to whitish and further to yellowish-green range by changing the doping concentration of Tb3+. As a result, this series of phosphors Na2Gd1-xTbxF2PO4 can be considered as promising candidates for plasma display panels (PDPs) and Hg-free fluorescent tubes application. Abstract:In this article, we present the vacuum ultraviolet-visible spectroscopic properties of NaRFPO4:Tb3+ (R = Gd and Y). Because the samples show intensive absorption near 172 nm and bright emission, the composition of the phosphors has been further optimized and an ideal phosphor NaGd0.3Y0.5Tb0.2FPO4 is obtained. This phosphor exhibits favorable characteristics such as a lower preparation temperature, an intensive emission under 172-nm excitation, a shorter decay time (τ1/10 = 8.7 ms) in comparison with the commercial green plasma display panel (PDP) phosphor Zn2SiO4:Mn2+ (τ1/10 = 10.8 ms), a good thermal stability for luminescence performance, and a uniform particle size around 2.3 μm. Hence, the phosphor NaGd0.3Y0.5Tb0.2FPO4 can be considered a promising green phosphor for use in PDPs.

Abstract:The investigations on photoluminescence and cathodoluminescence reveal that phosphor Ca(6)Gd(1.5)Tb(0.5)Na(2)(PO(4))(6)F(2) (CGPF-Tb) shows an intense green emission. Under the same conditions, the relative luminance of this phosphor is about 62%, 127%, and 71% of that of commercial phosphor Zn(2)SiO(4):Mn (ZSM) under 147 and 172 nm vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) light, and 2.5 kV/100 microA cm(-2) cathode ray excitation, respectively. A shorter luminescence decay time (tau(1/10) approximately 6.1 ms) makes it more suitable for displays application than ZSM. Hence CGPF-Tb is a promising candidate as a green-emitting component for applications in plasma display panels and field emission displays.

Abstract:Tb3+ doped Ba3Gd(PO4)3 and Ba3La(PO4)3 phosphors were synthesized using the traditional high temperature solid state reaction method. The excitation, emission, and decay spectra were measured at room temperature. Efficient energy transfer (ET) from Gd3+ to Tb3+ exists in Tb3+ doped Ba3Gd(PO4)3, and the ET efficiency increases with the increase of Tb3+ concentration. The visible quantum cutting (QC) via cross relaxation was observed upon exciting low-spin (7D(J)) 5d levels of Tb3+ ions. Ba3Tb(PO4)3 sample shows relatively strong emission intensity in comparison with Zn2SiO4: Mn2+ (ZSM) upon 172 nm excitation, and with a decay time τ(1/10) about 6.4 ms under 351 nm excitation, indicating the potential application of this phosphor for plasma display panels (PDPs) and Hg-free lamps.
Synthesis and photoluminescence properties of a novel green-emitting LiYGeO4 :Tb3+ long afterglow phosphor

Abstract:A new green luminescent phosphor, Li(Y1-x Tbx )GeO4 , was prepared using a high-temperature solid-phase method. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) measured spectrum agreed well with the standard card JCPDS No. 02-3479, indicating that it is a quaternary compound belonging to the space group of Pnma(62) with an orthogonal crystalline phase; the excitation and emission spectra measured using the phosphor spectrometer showed that it can be effectively excited by near-ultraviolet light at 378 nm and blue light at 482 nm, and produced excellent strong emission of green light at 550 nm. The afterglow test results show that the sample had a good long afterglow effect at lower doping concentrations; the thermal stability test results showed that its thermal burst activation energy ΔE ≈ 0.37 eV had its excellent thermal stability. The rare earth Tb3+ -doped green phosphor, LiYGeO4 :Tb3+ , has potential applications in household lighting, medical therapy, and optical storage.

Abstract:Green phosphor has become increasingly an attractive focus owing to its multifunctional applications in illumination, display, anti-counterfeiting, and even bio-labeling. In this paper, trivalent terbium (Tb3+)-activated Ba3(ZnB5O10)PO4 (BZBP) green phosphors were synthesized at 1050 K for 1 h via a microwave-assisted sintering route. The structural study, influence of dopant Tb3+ content and working temperature on photoluminescence behavior, and colorimetric properties were performed comprehensively. Tb3+ successfully substitutes Ba2+ in the BZBP lattice. Under 378 nm near-ultraviolet (NUV) excitation, the emission bands peak at 488, 542, 585, and 623 nm, corresponding to the 5D4→7F6, 5D4→7F5, 5D4→7F4, and 5D4→7F3 transitions of Tb3+, respectively. Despite the working temperature increases, the title phosphor maintains the high emission intensity and low chromaticity shifting, exhibiting robust thermostability and color stability. This work provides a simple and rapid synthesis method for borophosphate-based phosphor. The application of NUV-excited white light-emitting diodes fabricated with the title product and commercial phosphors (red, blue) indicates that the developed green phosphor BZBP:Tb3+ is a promising candidate material in illumination and display applications.

Abstract:Tb doped LnPO4 (Ln = La, Gd) phosphors with monoclinic system were successfully prepared by mild hydrothermal reaction at 240 °C. The 543 nm emission of Tb3+ in GdPO4 is higher than in LaPO4. By comparison, it is found that the intensity of host absorption band of GdPO4:Tb is higher than that of LaPO4:Tb which is ascribed to the energy transfer efficiency between the PO43− molecule and Tb3+ is higher. The emission intensity of optimal composition of GdPO4:0.3Tb is comparable with that of commercial Zn2SiO4:0.04Mn phosphor. These results suggest that GdPO4:0.3Tb is a potential candidate for plasma display panels (PDPs) application.
Thermally Stable Gd4(P2O7)3: Tb3+ Phosphor Synthesized Via Co-Precipitation: a Study on Ph-Dependent Formation and Luminescence

Abstract:A uniformly doped Gd4(P2O7)3: Tb3+ phosphor was synthesized via the co-precipitation method. The influences of pH and annealing temperature on the formation, phase composition, and morphology of the phosphors were thoroughly investigated. The phase structure, morphology, thermal properties, and luminescence properties of the phosphors were characterized using XRD, SEM, FT-IR, TG-DSC, Raman, and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. The Gd4(P2O7)3: Tb3+ phosphors exhibited optimal crystallinity and phase purity after adjusting the pH to 0.86 and annealing at 850 °C. The excitation-emission spectra demonstrated intense green light emission at 543 nm under 274 nm UV excitation, attributed to the 5D4-7F5 transition of Tb3+. The internal quantum efficiency (IQE) of the Gd4(P2O7)3: 2% Tb3+ sample is 39.10%. The luminescent intensity of the Gd₄(P₂O₇)₃: 2% Tb³⁺ phosphor at 491 K retains 94% of its intensity at 298 K, demonstrating remarkable luminescent thermal stability. The luminescent lifetime of the sample shows negligible change below 441K, remaining approximately 35.6 ± 0.2 ms. These finding confirm the outstanding luminescent thermal stability of Gd₄(P₂O₇)₃: Tb³⁺ phosphors, positioning them as promising candidates for high power density excitation and high temperature lighting applications.

Abstract:A series of Dy3+ or/and Tb3+ doped hexagonal NaGdF4 nanophosphors with an average size of 108 nm were successfully synthesized by a simple hydrothermal method and characterized by some techniques. The results indicate that the Dy3+ or Tb3+ ions individually activated NaGdF4 exhibit the excellent characteristic emissions of Dy3+ or Tb3+ ions under the excitation of UV light. Dy3+ and Tb3+ ions co-doped NaGdF4 phosphors can be pumped by n-UV light to emit green light. Moreover, the energy transfer phenomenon from Dy3+ to Tb3+ ions is clearly observed in NaGdF4: Dy3+, Tb3+ samples. Abstract:A anhydrous orthoborate Na3Tb(PO4)(2) has been prepared and its crystal structure was determined by X-Ray diffraction of a non-merohedral twinned single crystal. The results show that the compound crystallizes in monoclinic space group C2/c and the structure features a 3D framework containing PO4, NaO6, NaO7, NaO8 and TbO8 polyhedra. Under near-UV excitation (370 nm), Na3Tb(PO4)(2) shows intense characteristic emission bands of Tb3+ (490 nm, 543 nm, 585 nm and 620 nm) with the CIE coordinate of (0.3062, 0.5901), corresponding to greenish color. The excitation spectrum covers a wide range from 340 nm to 390 nm, which indicates that phosphor Na3Tb(PO4)(2) can be efficiently activated by near-UV LED ship.
An intense green emitting LiSrPO4:Eu2+, Tb3+ for phosphor-converted LED

Abstract:An intense green phosphor, LiSrPO4:Eu2+, Tb3+, was synthesized by high temperature solid-state reaction. The photoluminescence excitation and emission spectra, the lifetime and concentration effect are investigated in detail. The results show that an efficient non-radiative energy transfer from Eu2+ to Tb3+ occurs and its efficiency is about 66.4%. Tb3+ ions give an intense green emitting light by a strong excitation band of Eu2+ ions at 280–410nm, matching well with the dominant emission band of (n)-UV (350–420nm) LEDs. A phosphor-converted green LED was fabricated by coating the LiSrPO4:Eu2+, Tb3+ phosphor onto (n)-UV chip emitting at 370nm. These results demonstrate that Tb3+ ion with low 4f–4f absorption efficiency in (n)-UV region can play a role of activator in narrow green-emitting phosphor potentially useful in (n)-UV GaN-based LED through efficient energy feeding by allowed 4f–5d absorption of Eu2+ with high oscillator strength.

Abstract:A series of double scheelite-type tungstate green phosphors NaGd(WO4)(2):Er3+, Tb3+ were synthesized by a hydrothermal route and subsequent calcination process, and they were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS), photoluminescence spectroscopy and fluorescence lifetime measurements. The phosphors take on octahedral microcrystals with a mean side length of similar to 2 mu m. In the single doped phosphors system, the energy transfer processes from WO42- to Er3+ or Tb3+ were discussed. The quenching concentrations of Er3+ and Tb3+ are 0.05 and 0.07, respectively. The critical distances for Er3+ and Tb3+ ions are calculated to be 14.28 angstrom and 12.76 angstrom, respectively. When doping Er3+/Tb3+ is applied in the single compound, the concentration quenching effect of Tb3+ ions occurs via a resonant-type dipole-dipole interaction as well as that of Er3+ ions. Under the excitation with ultraviolet (378 nm) or infrared (980 nm) light, the Er3+/Tb3+ co-doped NaGd(WO4)(2) phosphors emit strong green emission. The obtained samples with bright emission intensity and appropriate decay time are suitable for use as green phosphors in the near ultraviolet LEDs and bioimaging applications. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. Abstract:A new tungstate family, Li 3 Ba 2 Gd 3 (WO 4 ) 8 doped with Tb 3+ is synthesized by using a conventional high-temperature solid-state method to explore new pure green phosphors for white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs). The results from the X-Ray patterns show that the crystal structures of the hosts are composed of tungstate zigzags and the Gd 3+ -Gd 3+ units, which are isolated by the [WO 4 ] 2 - groups. The critical concentration of Tb 3+ is up to x=2.0 in the singly doped phosphors, which is ascribed to the interaction of the isolated Gd 3+ ions being mitigated by [WO 4 ] 2- groups. The characteristic green emission peaks at around 547 nm are also observed, which result from the 5 D 4 → 7 F 5 transition of Tb 3+ ions, and the optimal doping concentration is x=2.0.

Abstract:NaCaPO4:Ce3+,Tb3+ phosphors were prepared by a solid-state reaction. Their luminescence properties reveal that an efficient energy transfer from the Ce3+ to Tb3+ ions occurs, and its mechanism is a resonant type by means of a dipole-quadrupole reaction. The critical distance of the energy transfer has been calculated by concentration-quenching and spectral-overlap methods. The varied emitted color of the phosphors from blue to yellow-greenish can be achieved by properly tuning the relative ratio of Ce3+ and Tb3+ through the energy transfer from the Ce3+ to Tb3+ ions. These results indicate that NaCaPO4:Ce3+,Tb3+ is potentially useful as a highly efficient, green-emitting, UV-convertible phosphor for white-light-emitting diodes. Moreover, the accurate oscillator strength ratio of the electric quadrupole-to-dipole transitions for the Tb3+ ion was obtained to be about 10(-3), which may be of much significance in the estimate of the critical distance of the dipole-quadrupole interaction between Ce3+ and Tb3+ ions through Dexter's energy-transfer theory.
Quantum Cutting in KGd(CO3)2:Tb3+ Green Phosphor

Abstract:Phosphors with a longer excitation wavelength exhibit higher energy conversion efficiency. Herein, quantum cutting KGd(CO3)2:Tb3+ phosphors excited by middle-wave ultraviolet were synthesized via a hydrothermal method. All the KGd(CO3)2:xTb3+ phosphors remain in monoclinic structures in a large Tb3+ doping range. In the KGd(CO3)2 host, 6D3/2 and 6I17/2 of Gd3+ were employed for quantum cutting in sensitizing levels. The excited state electrons could easily transfer from Gd3+ to Tb3+ with high efficiency. There are three efficient excited bands for quantum cutting. The excited wavelengths of 244, 273, and 283 nm correspond to the transition processes of 8S7/2→6D3/2 (Gd3+), 8S7/2→6I17/2 (Gd3+), and 7F6→5F4 (Tb3+), and the maximum quantum yields of KGd(CO3)2:Tb3+ can reach 163.5, 119, and 143%, respectively. The continuous and efficient excitation band of 273–283 nm can well match the commercial 275 nm LED chip to expand the usage of solid-state light sources. Meanwhile, the phosphor also shows good excitation efficiency at 365 nm in a high Tb3+ doping concentration. Therefore, KGd(CO3)2:Tb3+ is an efficient green-emitting phosphor for ultraviolet-excited solid-state light sources.

Abstract:Ca 6 Gd 1.5 Tb 0.5 Na 2 (PO 4 ) 6 F 2 phosphor has been studied for FED application. Ca 6 Gd 1.5 Tb 0.5 Na 2 (PO 4 ) 6 F 2 phosphor screen has been prepared by a screen-printing method. The luminance and degradation under different bombardment current and voltage were studied. The performance was compared with commercial green phosphor Zn 2 SiO 4 :Mn. The factors affecting the performance of the phosphor screen will be discussed.
