Abstract:With the development of online education, the pattern of education which based on the Internet obtained the general recognition of the society. People prefer to learn and share the open courses on the Internet in universities or colleges all over the world. However, the courses opened online can support the massive peoples to learn online, but couldn't support they to program on the network, and judge the program on the network. In order to support more and more students to complete the experiments of the online courses, automatic judging system about software experiments and hardware experiments are needed to develop to ensure the correctness of the design of experiments. The Background Evaluation System is in MOOC (massive online open courses) environment, it can connect different experiment systems to finish different courses. It also can simulate the hardware experiments online and test hardware experiments automatically. Programming online judge system, mentioned in this paper, can solve much of the problems. With the help of Programming online judge system, different universities can share their resources and save investment. Users can look up for the information conveniently and get experience similar to local experiment.

Abstract:Learning programming at scale underlies computer science education ranging from basic programming to advanced software engineering topics. There are strong needs of providing effective system supports for learning programming at scale. Among various desirable characteristics of such system supports, system supports shall allow students to write programs via an online Integrated Development Environment (IDE), allow students to get feedback on how they perform on the given programming exercises, etc. To aim for such effective system supports for learning programming at scale, research teams from Peking University have developed two systems: POP (denoting Peking University Online Programming System) and POJ (denoting Peking University Online Judge System). These two systems have achieved high impact among students around the world (especially those in China). In this paper, we present the overview of the two systems, along with our ongoing and future work on extending the systems for achieving higher effectiveness in supporting learning programming at scale.

Abstract:Abstract As an important branch of software testing, software automated testing has brought many conveniences to the B/S architecture of Web application software testing. At the same time, it has also put forward new requirements for talents in the field of software testing. It is necessary to understand the theoretical knowledge of software testing and to master the use of software testing tools. Therefore, colleges and universities must adopt a teaching model that combines theory with practice to train more excellent test talents. The online practice system adopts the B/S architecture mode, integrates Spring, SpringMVC, and MyBatis open-source frameworks for system development, realizes the function module of super administrator management background, and supports student users to practice theoretical exercises related to software testing online, and write Web-compliant Selenium test script for applying test questions. The system can refer to the Selenium test script according to the standard and compare the test script submitted by the student user. The Selenium tags, positioning methods, elements, and attribute values are regarded as important scoring objects, and finally, judge and make reasonable scoring feedback.

Abstract:POJ ( Peking University Online Judge ) system is aiming at training the ACM/ICPC ( Association of Comuting Machinery/Intenational Collegiate Programming Contest) PKU team members. The system functions include user management, task library, realtime submission and judgement, discussion board, email system. It can he widely used in programming related courses in helping with the homework remarking and online examina-tion. In Peking University, POJ has been integrated in some courses such as 《Introduction to Computing》, 《C + + programming》, 《Data Structure and Algorithms》 and 《Problem solving and Programming》. Through POJ, the students may submit their homework at anytime and get prompt remark to their submisions. Professors can al-so watch the students behaviours on POJ and find out the most common problems with the students in learning. Taking exams on POJ makes the students try their best to improve their online programming techniques in stead of just remembering all the things. Meanwhile it is easier to find out similar programs so that less students copy their homework from others. POJ as a smart tool is a good helper in teaching programming.

Abstract:In embedded systems, Flash is an often-used way of read-only memory. For all kinds of Flash online programming interface in the present industry,a general Flash online programming system is implemented in this paper by using the embedded debugging techniques. This system encapsulates the different Flash online programming details by defining specific Flash online programming driver. An Integrated Development Environment(IDE) based on Eclipse is at the top of the system, and in the background, the existing embedded debug tool is reused to achieve Flash online programming with the help of specific Flash driver running on the embedded target. In terms of use,this system presents a simple operation,strong visual software interface for Flash online programming,and in the aspect of function,major Flash in the industry can be online programming in this system,which implements the generality of Flash online programming.

Abstract:ABSTRACTBased on POJ (PKU Judge Online), an online judge system for ACM/ICPC in Peking University, we develop a system called Programming Grid (PG), which is aimed at computer-aided education (CAE) for programming courses. PG is a course-centered system for CAE, while POJ is a problem-centered system for programming training. PG system designs many resources to support programming courses: problem, problem list, digest, course, etc. Based on those resources, PG supports many computer-aided education methods. The teachers and the students can use PG to solve problems, submit source codes and check their answers, download the courseware, compare scores with others, ask questions, and communicate with each others for education aim. Our practice on the course "Introduction to Computing" in PKU proves that PG is useful for computer-aided education for computer programming courses.

Abstract:This research conducts a study to build an Online Programming Judge system with a mechanism to generate test cases automatically using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm. The system has the function to judge programming code by evaluating the output that the program produced. Based on the problem that it is time consuming for lecturers to manually compile, run and verify every student programs for judging. Moreover, they also need to define test cases for different programming exercises in order to judge student‘s code. The system is built on the purpose to assist lecturers in Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS in judging code submitted from students and generate test cases for every programming exercise automatically. It also helps UTP students practice and enhancing their programming skills. In this research, details of judging process are explored. Moreover, the mechanism of test cases generation using PSO algorithm is deeply analyzed. The study would focus on the primary structure of PSO and the proposed fitness function to calculate fitness value for each generated test case. There are comparisons between manual and automatic PSO test case generation results that would be conducted to evaluate the efficiency of the proposed method. Finally, conclusion of current results and recommendation for future development are also stated.

MetaOJ: A Massive Distributed Online Judge System

Abstract:Online Judge (OJ) systems are a basic and important component of computer education. Here, we present MetaOJ, an OJ system that can be used for holding massive programming tests online. MetaOJ is designed to create a distributed, fault-tolerant, and easy-to-scale OJ system from an existing ordinary OJ system by adding several interfaces into it and creating multiple instances of it. Our case on modifying the TUOJ system shows that the modification adds no more than 3% lines of code and the performance loss on a single OJ instance is no more than 12%. We also introduce mechanisms to integrate the system with cloud infrastructure to automate the deployment process. MetaOJ provides a solution for those OJ systems that are designed for a specific programming contest and are now facing performance bottlenecks.

Abstract:The expanding software industry has increased the demand for proficient programming professionals. However, more than technical expertise is needed for successful software development; code quality assurance and effective teamwork are also indispensable. Unfortunately, recent graduates often exhibit deficiencies in programming, code quality assurance, and teamwork skills, highlighting the need for improvements in these areas. In response to these challenges, this study presents ProgEdu4Web, an innovative Automated Programming Assessment System designed to evaluate code quality and teamwork proficiency in web programming. The system integrates automatic source code evaluation tools for static code analysis, ensuring timely feedback on coding quality issues. To assess the effectiveness of ProgEdu4Web, a questionnaire and hypothesis model was employed, surveying a cohort of 111 students enrolled in web programming classes. The study's findings demonstrate that the system significantly alleviated instructor workload while motivating students to enhance their web programming with good code quality and teamwork abilities.

Abstract:With the development of the network, online education has entered thousands of households, and the access to online education is also very simple. Due to the continuous development of online education, a variety of online examination systems with various characteristics have been derived. Considering the simplicity and convenience of the system and the stability of performance, we have developed an online examination system using SSM framework under B/S architecture, which can detect students 'learning status through online examination and automatic marking. And automatically analyze the error rate of each problem and the weakness of each student, so that the teacher can explain such exercises. It also contains the basic information of the student, such as the mobile phone number of the student's parents. If the student is found not to complete the examination, the teacher will also call the student's parents to remind them, and can also communicate with the student's parents appropriately. For the management of the test questions can be taken excel document import. Thus, it can greatly improve the generation of test papers compared with the traditional paper examination. In terms of the types of questions in the online examination system, we only set single choice, multiple choice and judgment questions in the system, set the passing score, set the time of the examination, and also count the number of people who have passed the examination, and provide the correct answer after the examination for students to think. There is also a progress display on the right side of the answer sheet. After each question was answered, the color of the question number on the answer sheet changed. There's also a timing system on the right.

Abstract:Online judges are systems designed for the reliable evaluation of algorithm source code submitted by users, which is next compiled and tested in a homogeneous environment. Online judges are becoming popular in various applications. Thus, we would like to review the state of the art for these systems. We classify them according to their principal objectives into systems supporting organization of competitive programming contests, enhancing education and recruitment processes, facilitating the solving of data mining challenges, online compilers and development platforms integrated as components of other custom systems. Moreover, we introduce a formal definition of an online judge system and summarize the common evaluation methodology supported by such systems. Finally, we briefly discuss an <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://Optil.io" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> platform as an example of an online judge system, which has been proposed for the solving of complex optimization problems. We also analyze the competition results conducted using this platform. The competition proved that online judge systems, strengthened by crowdsourcing concepts, can be successfully applied to accurately and efficiently solve complex industrial- and science-driven challenges.

Abstract:Programming ability is the core ability for students in computer majors, but current training in programming ability lacks process observation and evaluation. Relying solely on a small number of tests is insufficient in evaluating students’ performance. A system that tracks and evaluates the programming process is needed to estimate students’ performance, effort, and emotional states. Teachers can improve courses, identify and assist students who encounter difficulties based on that system. This paper presents a web-based Online Programming Training Estimation System (OPTES) that provides an integrated environment for after-class programming assignments, which is designed to track and estimate the students’ learning status continuously over a long period, e.g., a whole semester. Beyond normal functions like Online Judge systems, OPTES collects and analyzes students’ progress data, estimates students’ emotional states based on machine learning technologies, and visualizes these data intuitively. Correlation analysis shows an evident correlation between progress data, emotional states, and performance. This system has been successfully deployed and evaluated empirically for two semesters, used by over 500 sophomores, which also received positive feedback from the teachers who use the system.

Abstract:Testing is an important, time-consuming, and often difficult part of the software development process. It is therefore critical to introduce testing early in the computer science curriculum, and to provide students with frequent opportunities for practice and feedback. This paper presents an automated system to help introductory students learn how to test software. Students submit test cases to the system, which uses a large corpus of buggy programs to evaluate these test cases. In addition to gauging the quality of the test cases, the system immediately presents students with feedback in the form of buggy programs that nonetheless pass their tests. This enables students to understand why their test cases are deficient and gives them a starting point for improvement. The system has proven effective in an introductory class: students that trained using the system were later able to write better test cases -- even without any feedback -- than those who were not. Further, students reported additional benefits such as improved ability to read code written by others and to understand multiple approaches to the same problem.

Abstract:Programs are a kind of communication to both computers and people, hence as students are trained to write programs they need to learn to write well-designed, readable code rather than code that simply functions correctly. The difficulty in teaching good design practices that promote readability is the labor intensiveness of assessing student programs. Typically assessing design quality involves a careful reading of student programs in order to give personalized feedback which naturally is time consuming for instructors. We propose a rule-based system that assesses student programs for quality of design of and provides personalized, precise feedback on how to improve their work. To study its effectiveness, we made the system available to students by deploying it online, allowing students to receive feedback and make corrections before turning in their assignments. The students benefited from the system and the rate of design quality flaws dropped 47.84\% on average over 4 different assignments, 2 in Python and 2 in Java, in comparison to the previous 2 to 3 years of student submissions.

Abstract:With the widespread application of computer technology in engineering education, Online Judge (OJ) systems have become an important platform for programming teaching. OJ systems provide a platform for learners to practice programming skills, submit solutions, and receive feedback. They offer a conducive environment for learners to engage in hands-on coding exercises and enhance their programming abilities. This article explores the use of OJ systems as a software tool for enhancing programming education in engineering. It investigates how the difficulty and order of programming problems affect the users' behavior, performance, and cognitive load in OJ environments. The research data were sourced from Project_CodeNet. Using statistical methods, such as Spearman correlation analysis and differential analysis, the study reveals the factors that influence the users' submission situations, answer order, and learning outcomes. The findings provide useful implications for OJ system developers, teachers, and learners in designing, implementing, and using OJ systems for programming education in engineering. The study suggests that problem difficulty and order should be considered and adjusted according to the users' abilities and progress, to provide appropriate challenges and support, balance the cognitive load, and improve the programming skills of the users.
