Abstract:Objective To explore the relationship between attention deficit hyperactivity disorder ( ADHD) and sit-up ability in children, so as to provide evidence for the effective prevention, intervention and treatment of ADHD.Methods On a voluntary basis, 86 cases of children, aged from 6 to 10, were chosen as study group.All of them received treatment at department of child care of Children's Hospital of Soochow University.Besides, they all met the diagnostic criteria of ADHD in the fourth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder ( DSM-IV) .In accordance with the gender and age of children in the study group, a group of 1:1 pair matched healthy children were chosen as normal group.Self-designed sit-up training and rating method were used.The integrated visual and auditory continuous performance test ( IVA-CPT) was applied to evaluate the symptoms of ADHD children.Results The number of children in ADHD group whose sit-up ability was assessed as level I and levelⅡwas significantly more than that of the children in the normal group (χ2 value was 33.77 and 5.66, respectively, both P<0.05).The number of children in ADHD group whose sit-up ability was assessed as level V was significantly less than that of the children in the normal group (χ2 =58.97,P<0.001).After receiving intervention of sit-up training, children in ADHD group whose sit-up ability was assessed as level I reduced significantly in number while the number of children who was assessed as level V increased significantly (χ2 value was 22.66 and 34.31, respectively, both P<0.001 ) .The number of children whose sit-up ability was assessed as level Ⅱ, Ⅲ, or Ⅳ showed no obvious change (χ2 value was 0.34, 0.78 and 0.05, respectively, all P>0.05).Quotients of IVA-CPT all showed significant increase.Conclusion ADHD is associated with lack of athletic ability in children.Sit-up training is an effective way to interfere ADHD.
