Abstract:The development of Chinese philosophy is inseparably related to the study of the Way,which can be reflected in Confucian philosophy.Certainly,different philosphers in the Confucian system have different focuses in studying the Way.As the founder of Confucianism,what he concerns first is humanity.And in the proposition of "striving to pursue the Way",the priority of humanity is confirmed concretely.In terms of individuals,the life orientation of "striving to pursue the Way" is mainly represented by "seeking the Way" and "worrying about the Way".The Way not only provides an ideal for individuals,but also serves as a principle for interpersonal interaction.This echoes the saying that "there is no point on people taking counsel together who follow different ways." With the self-conscious awareness of "shouldering heavy responsibilities",the pursuing of the Way further reveals man’s historical reponsibilities within a much broader historical and cultural context.In comparison with Confucius' main focus on humanity,Xunzi’s study of the Way includes a broader field.In Xunzi’s opinion,the Way embodies the united form of existence,as a kind of holistic metaphysical wisdom manifested in the process of knowing and doing.Starting from "concentrating single-mindedly on the Way" and "dispelling blindness",Xunzi further unites the one-sidedness of understanding with the Way of returning to wholeness.
