Analysis of the Urban Expansion of Dongying City Based on Remote Sensing and GIS

Abstract:With the rapid development of industrialization,the process of urbanization is speeded up,which makes the contradiction in land-use more serious.This paper studied the case of Dongying City,the features of its expansion was analyzed.The multi-temporal satellite images from 1988 to 2003 were processed,temporal and spatial features of Dongying City during the past 20 years were analyzed using spatial analysis techniques of GIS.The result revealed that the speed of urban expansion in Dongying city was very quick.The urban area in 2003 was more than 4 times of that in 1988.The result also showed that the main driving force of urban expansion is the high-speed economic development of Dongying city.
