Abstract:Based on fuzzy logic theory, a new data fusion method for target identification using D-S evidence theory (Dempster-Shafer theory) is presented. By acquiring signals from multiple sources, the belief function assignment value of each transducer is obtained from extracted eigenvalue by using fuzzy logic. The fusion belief function assignment is received by using D-S evidence theory. To solve the problem of combing evidences with high degree of conflict, a modified D-S evidence theory combination rule is introduced. The problem of inconsistent evidence is handled using the method. More accurate result of target identification can be obtained. A comparison of the results of target identification based on separate original data with those based on fusion data shows that the accuracy of target identification is increased.

Abstract:Evidence theory is widely used in the field of target recognition. The invalidation problem of this theory when dealing with highly conflict evidences is a research hotspot. Several alternatives of the combination rule are analyzed and compared. A new combination approach is proposed. Calculate the reliabilities of evidence sources using existing evidences. Construct reliabilities judge matrixes and get the weights of each evidence source. Weight average all inputted evidences. Combine processed evidences with D-S combination rule repeatedly to identify a target. The application in multi-sensor target recognition as well as the comparison with typical alternatives all validated that this approach can dispose highly conflict evidences efficiently and get reasonable recognition results rapidly.

Abstract:This paper presents a method of multi-sensor data fusion based on neuron network and reasoning (Dempster-Shafer evidence reasoning). The method can use D-S’s Evidence to deal with the inaccuracy and fuzzy information. And also it can give full play to self-study of neural net, self-adapting and fault tolerant ability. In this way it has doughty robustness to uncertain information and improve the system identification rate. Then the D-S evidence is used to fuse the results derived from the neural network at different time. The result of computer simulation showsthe method is effective and correct.

Abstract:Target identification is a major practical application of information fusion, in which Dezert-Smarandache theory (DSmT) is a useful method for dealing with problems with uncertainties and is efficient in combining conflicting evidences. We put forward three temporal-spatial information fusion approaches including the centralized fusion approach, the distributed approach without-feedback and the distributed approach with-feedback. Especially, when integrity constraints are introduced to the system, it is necessary to employ the conflict distance parameter to determine the combination order of evidences. This will in some extent overcome the deficiency in noncommitative property in the hybrid DSm rule of combination. Numerical examples are provided to show the validity in applications of the proposed approach.

Abstract:In recent years, the Dempster–Shafer Theory (DST) has been widely applied in areas such as target classification and multi-modal fusion due to its advantages in uncertain reasoning. However, in DST, when there exists highly conflicts between Sources of Evidence (SoEs), it often leads to counterintuitive fusion results, thereby affecting the performance of the final fused decision-making. To eliminate the potential impact of highly conflicts during the fusion process, this paper primarily focuses on modifying the SoEs themselves to achieve the discounting fusion. Currently, existing literature has proposed numerous discounting fusion methods to address highly conflict fusion. However, in these discounting strategies, the determination of discounting factors is typically based on a single criterion. Considering that a single indicator cannot comprehensively and accurately assess the reliability of each evidence source, this paper introduces a novel conflict evidence combination method based on a multi-criteria evaluation strategy. In this method, the Best and Worst Method (BWM) is initially used to prioritize the best SoE, determining the solution points for each criterion and subsequently selecting the ideal solution. Then, combining the selected criteria: distance, relative entropy, and divergence metrics, reliability calculation is performed based on the Stable Preference Order Theory for Ideal Solution (SPOTIS), which achieves a stable preference order strategy towards the ideal solutions. Finally, leveraging the discounting fusion method in DST, modification and fusion of the original highly conflict SoEs are achieved. Through extensive experiments, the effectiveness and practicality of the proposed method in this paper have been validated.

Abstract:Multitarget detection under complex environment is a challenging task, where the measured signal will be submerged by noise. D-S belief theory is an effective approach in dealing with Multitarget detection. However, there are some limitations of the general D-S belief theory under complex environment. For example, the basic belief assignment is difficult to establish, and the subjective factors will influence the update process of evidence. In this paper, a new Multitarget detection approach based on thermal infrared and visible images fusion is proposed. To easily characterize the defected heterogeneous image, a basic belief assignment based on the distance distribution function of heterogeneous characteristics is presented. Furthermore, to improve the discrimination and effectiveness of the Multitarget detection, a concept of comprehensive credibility is introduced into the proposed approach and a new update rule of evidence is designed. Finally, some experiments are carried out and the experimental results show the efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed approach in the Multitarget detection task.

Abstract:Several results of Dempster Shafer (D S) method applied to target fusion identification of two sensors and conclusions drawn from them were given and proved. The recurrence formula of multisensor (2) D S fusion identification were derived and their properties were shown clearly. The study provides theoretical basis for selecting various sensors and effectively fusing information from them in multisensor target identification systems. Furthermore, the recurrence formula of fusion identification can reduce computational load, enhance adjustability of distributed multisensor identification systems, and they can be used in the case of real time. These results have great value for solve problem of robot and military target identification.

Abstract:Multi-sensor systems are able to obtain various measurement data, but their accuracy and reliability are difficult to be guaranteed, thus the decision-makings using these data are likely contrary to the facts. In view of this, an approach to multi-sensor decision fusion based on improved Jousselme evidence distance is proposed in the framework of D-S evidence theory. By rationally dividing the similarity Jaccard coefficient matrix, the evidences about conflicted sensor node are described accurately and their weights are reallocated by correction. This facilitates the final decision fusion. Numerical experimental results demonstrate that the proposed decision fusion approach based on the improved Jousselme distance achieves better performance than some existed approaches and largely reduces the uncertainty of the fused decision. To sum up, our approach not only recognizes the evidence about conflicted sensor node rapidly, but also has less risk of decision-makings.

Abstract:In order to conquer the hard outputs defect of Support Vector Machine (SVM) and extend its application, an improved target recognition method based on Multi-class Support Vector Machine (MSVM) is proposed. Firstly, the typical Probability Modeling methodologies of MSVM were deeply analyzed. Secondly, the structure of one-against-one multi-class method which matches with Basic Probability Assignment (BPA) outputs of evidence theory by coincide, so a special Multi-class BPA output method is derived, and multi-sensor target recognition model based on MSVM and two-layer evidence theory is constructed. Finally, the results of experiments show that the proposed approach can not only conquer the overlap area of one-against-one multi-class method, but also improve classification accuracy.

Abstract:Space infrared dim target recognition is an important applications of space situational awareness (SSA). Due to the weak observability and lack of geometric texture of the target, it may be unreliable to rely only on grayscale features for recognition. In this paper, an intelligent information decision-level fusion method for target recognition which takes full advantage of the ensemble classifier and Dempster–Shafer (DS) theory is proposed. To deal with the problem that DS produces counterintuitive results when evidence conflicts, a contraction–expansion function is introduced to modify the body of evidence to mitigate conflicts between pieces of evidence. In this method, preprocessing and feature extraction are first performed on the multi-frame dual-band infrared images to obtain the features of the target, which include long-wave radiant intensity, medium–long-wave radiant intensity, temperature, emissivity–area product, micromotion period, and velocity. Then, the radiation intensities are fed to the random convolutional kernel transform (ROCKET) architecture for recognition. For the micromotion period feature, a support vector machine (SVM) classifier is used, and the remaining categories of the features are input into the long short-term memory network (LSTM) for recognition, respectively. The posterior probabilities corresponding to each category, which are the result outputs of each classifier, are constructed using the basic probability assignment (BPA) function of the DS. Finally, the discrimination of the space target category is implemented according to improved DS fusion rules and decision rules. Continuous multi-frame infrared images of six flight scenes are used to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method. The experimental results indicate that the recognition accuracy of the proposed method in this paper can reach 93% under the strong noise level (signal-to-noise ratio is 5). Its performance outperforms single-feature recognition and other benchmark algorithms based on DS theory, which demonstrates that the proposed method can effectively enhance the recognition accuracy of space infrared dim targets.

Abstract:Multimodule and multisensor data with different characteristics can reflect the overall operating status of the equipment from different angles. It is far from enough to monitor the operating status of equipment from a single perspective for this fails to take all valid information into account. However, data integration may face problems such as the curse of dimensionality and scale mismatches. Therefore, decision fusion, which needs to measure and manage evidence conflicts, has attracted extensive attention from scholars. However, most of the state-of-art methods focus on conflict management based on evidence itself and ignore the irrationality of conflict factor $K$ in measuring conflicts and the reliability of evidence sources in conflict management. In order to solve the above problems, a novel hybrid decision fusion approach is proposed in this article. First, divide data into modules and use the models in the model library to conduct cross-validation, thus obtaining the performance ranking. Then, select the optimal classifier of each module to obtain the evidence for decision fusion. Given the conflict of evidences, the Jensen–Shannon (JS) divergence is used to measure the conflict, and those high-conflict evidences will be revised through sensitivity and support analyses. Finally, the Dempster–Shafer (DS) evidence theory is used to integrate multimodule evidences to assess the status. To prove the feasibility and effectiveness of this approach, a realistic operational shield case in China is used.

Abstract:Multi-sensor information fusion technology owns efficient capability to recognize small dim targets from complex ground background in the remote sensing images. A novel small dim infrared target detection and feature extraction algorithm is applied firstly by using line average subtraction and block-threshold segmentation in dual-channel mid- and long-wavelength infrared images. The further correlation analysis on grey model is used to generate the basic probability assignment function. Then, Dempster-Shafer evidence theory of evidential reasoning is employed to classify the final target type. Experimental results indicate that this method performs more efficiently in target detection and recognition comparing with the classical algorithms.

Abstract:In allusion to the features of dynamic multi-target tracking and measuring system (DMTTMS), compares the DMTTMS with the single target tracking and measuring system (STTMS) and analyses the difficulties about homonymy image point ascertainment in DMTTMS. Three methods are presented based on the geometric peculiarity of rays in imaging principia of geometric optics to solve the problem of homonymy image point ascertainment. A design scheme of DMTTMS is put forward using multiple optical capture instruments. Further-more, an algorithm is emphasized that could treat with some targets that are hided by other targets. The simulating result shows that proposed scheme and algorithm has feasibility and validity for DMTTMS.
Multi-source Image target-region recognition based on DS theory

Abstract:DS Theory, as one of the most important decision-level fusion algorithms, can combine decisions from different sources, so it has been widely used in the field of multi-source remote sensing images fusion. This paper first analyzes the basic knowledge about DS and its combination rule, and then for the 5 types of target-region in the JERS-1 SAR imagery and TM multispectral imagery about the neighborhood of Harbin, uses the grey feature of TM and the texture feature of SAR to recognize the target-region separately. After that, the correlation of target-region and region template is converted to the mass function probability and the unknown probability in DS. For the different influence on the target-region recognition of different sources, we can adjust the unknown probability of spatial information. By the DS combination rule, the two-source recognition results are combined. Finally we verify the effectiveness of the method by the priori knowledge. The experiments show that the combination result of DS can be more accurate than that of single source in the area of the multi-source target-region recognition. Based on the processing, we analysis some problems needed to be noticed in the DS application.

Abstract:In IoT environments, voluminous amounts of data are produced every single second. Due to multiple factors, these data are prone to various imperfections, they could be uncertain, conflicting, or even incorrect leading to wrong decisions. Multisensor data fusion has proved to be powerful for managing data coming from heterogeneous sources and moving towards effective decision-making. Dempster-Shafer (D-S) theory is a robust and flexible mathematical tool for modeling and merging uncertain, imprecise, and incomplete data, and is widely used in multisensor data fusion applications such as decision-making, fault diagnosis, pattern recognition, etc. However, the combination of contradictory data has always been challenging in D-S theory, unreasonable results may arise when dealing with highly conflicting sources. In this paper, an improved evidence combination approach is proposed to represent and manage both conflict and uncertainty in IoT environments in order to improve decision-making accuracy. It mainly relies on an improved evidence distance based on Hellinger distance and Deng entropy. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, a benchmark example for target recognition and two real application cases in fault diagnosis and IoT decision-making have been provided. Fusion results were compared with several similar methods, and simulation analyses have shown the superiority of the proposed method in terms of conflict management, convergence speed, fusion results reliability, and decision accuracy. In fact, our approach achieved remarkable accuracy rates of 99.32% in target recognition example, 96.14% in fault diagnosis problem, and 99.54% in IoT decision-making application.

Abstract:Multi-sensor Kalman filtering algorithm has good signal tracking and estimation ability. However, due to the influence of signal noise, the signals provided by different sensors would produce a certain level of deviations, and this will adversely influence the prediction and estimate to the true signals. In this paper, a method of multi-sensor measurement fusion was proposed based on the Dempster-Shafer evidence theory, in which the evidence theory was used to process the measurement information and the filter’s estimate, thereby reasonably work out the weight of single sensor and make the second assignment to the sensor measurement values. The result after fusion has good filter effect. Then the improved measurement fusion method is applied to the target tracking problems, and the target tracking accuracy is almost doubled. The experiment results confirm the reliability and the accuracy of the algorithm, showing that it has certain practical value.

Abstract:Radar, optical and infrared sensors are the main loads in space-based detection system. In this paper, multisensor information fusion method is applied to space target recognition. SVM, RFM and CNN is used in the recognition method. In this paper, the feature level fusion method of multisensor image is compared with extracting the features without fusion. The advantage of fusion for improving the recognition success rate is highlighted. Finally, the D-S evidence theory method is used in decision level fusion.
