Abstract:The agent construction system mode is a type of new construction management system, related to the management efficiency and level of government's public project, but it encountered many obstacles and problems to promote in China. In this paper, three typical agent systems were contrasted and analyzed, and their advantages and disadvantages were combined to point out the existing problems of the current system mode, and based on these problems specific countermeasures were put forward. The research in this paper is important to the promotion and application of the agent system in China. © 2010 IEEE.

Abstract:During implementation of "Agent Construction System", disputes may not be settled properly due to the hidden unequal positions between the employer and the agent. With the experience from Hong Kong government in project management, a dispute settling advisor system is adopted in practice. To solve the professional problems, it is suggested that the supervisory enterprises be shifted to the pattern of project management companies.

Abstract:With an analysis on the implementation situation of agent construction system of government-funded pro-jects in pilot areas in China,three different agent construction system modes are summarized,which are the govern-ment centralized agent construction,the market-oriented agent construction and the intermediate mode.This paper also comparatively analyzes the process and characteristics of each mode,and the relationship of all the stakehold-ers,which provides decision-making guide for helping agent construction system modes fully display the role in government-funded projects construction.

Abstract:The construction industry is acutely aware of the need to improve its management process. Currently, construction management is facing four major schools of thoughts. This paper reports the recent study results, the aim of which was to compare these approaches. The focus will be on the questions: What is the theory root for this school of thoughts? What is the position of planning? What are the techniques used or recommended by each of these schools of thoughts in managing construction projects? Recommendations are then given through a deep discussion of the capability of each approach in managing today's highly complex construction project.

Abstract:This paper studies the content of thefive responsible parties system,and discusses the problems which have been illustrated case studies on some quality and safety accidents. Then,makes a comparative analysis of the chief architect/engineer system and the five responsible parties system from the aspects of power balance between the owner and the professional,the responsibility allocation of work-interfaces and the assurances of the quality and safety. The result shows that the chief architect/engineer system has advantages on the responsibility allocation of work-interfaces,the quality and safety assurance,reasonable share of all parties' responsibility,and vital interests protection for the end users.

Abstract:The increased complexity of construction projects has caused various management challenges. To clarify the mechanism of construction system complexity and improve the ability to manage the complexity of construction projects, the Agent-based modeling (ABM) method has been introduced and used in the construction management field. Nevertheless, a systematic, holistic, and panoramic understanding of the use of the ABM model in the construction management field is still lacking. To address this research gap, this study reviewed 133 historical explorations retrieved from the database of Web of Science. By using the multiple objectives of construction management as the literature classification framework, the study described the research status of the agent-based modeling method in the field of construction management. On this basis, this paper suggested the improvement paths in the application of this method from three aspects. It is expected that this study will provide a theoretical basis for enhancing understanding of the use of the ABM method in construction management, and also provide insights for future explorations in the area.

Abstract:This paper presents a simulation model based on the general framework of Multi-Agent System (MAS) that can be used to investigate construction project bidding process. Specifically, it can be used to investigate different strategies in project bidding management from the general contractors' perspective. The effectiveness of the studied management strategies is evaluated by the quality, time and cost of bidding activities. As an implementation of MAS theory, this work is expected to test the suitability of MAS in studying construction management related problems.

Abstract:This paper analyzes the connotation of the architect responsibility system and the supervision-engineer system,and compares the effects in the following 4 aspects:design intention implementation and architectural design improvement,construction quality and safety assurance,communication efficiency,and owner's project management services. Research shows that the architect responsibility system works better on ensuring the design intention to be followed in construction,and promoting the coordination of design and construction during construction phase,under the clear distribution of quality liability between the architect and the contractor. Chinese supervision-engineer system should have served the owner better on its specialized construction project management services. However,this value was badly impaired by the opaque definition of the supervision-engineer's on-site liability and the absence of pre-construction services. China should follow the core idea of architect responsibility system,and encourage the engineering consulting services to cover all the project implementation processes and to work in an integrative way.

Abstract:Through the investigation of the governmental departments and agents in pilot areas of China,the system comprised of 13 secondary indicators and 5 primary indicators including agent's strength and performance,level of project organization and management,agent management principle,agent management target and supporting measures,and agent overhead expenses is put forward.The system is comprehensively evaluated by way of Likert5-points.Then through applying fuzzy entropy,the weights of indicators are measured with conditional entropy,and the levels of agents are ranked with double-point method which can avoid the disadvantages of subjective judgments,and thus improve the objectivity and accuracy of agent evaluation.At last,the validity of the system is confirmed by a project example.

Abstract:By analyzing the currently problem existing in China Government investment project managements, the paper stresses the necessity of using the management model of ACS in China Government investment project managements, and then find the implementation problems in ACS. At the same time, the paper optimizes the development of the ACS. It is proposed that we should continue to prefect and advance the measures related to ACS in the policy, organization, the system establishment and market environment. There are also needed endeavors in accomplishment the ACS law and company qualification management, clearing the participators’ functions in ACS, accomplishment the project guarantee system, unifying the ACS charge standard. The finial purpose of the paper is proposing some suggestion on the improving project management level for government.

Abstract:Multiagent construction supply chain management system (MCSCMS) is a set of agents, software and technology designed to focus and enhance the communication, deliberations and decision-making of groups. MCSCMS is successful in improving the efficiency, reliability and quality of the group decision-making process. This paper aims to introduce the application of MCSCMS so as to improve the implementation of construction supply chain management (CSCM). It begins with an introduction to construction supply chain (CSC),CSCM and the difficulties of implementing CSC. In order to resolve the problems in CSC and promote the performance of CSCM, a multiagent construction supply chain management system is designed based on the multiattribute negotiation technology. This is followed by a description of the MCSCMS framework to illustrate how this framework can provide support in discussion, information, collaboration and decision analysis to overcome the existing difficulties in CSC. The benefits of using the proposed system in CSCM have also been discussed.
