The Research Progress of Gentri?cation in Western Countries and China with the Implications forC hina's Urban Planning

Abstract:As a new urban social geographical phenomenon,gentrification has been developing for decades in Western countries.And the concept of gentrification has changed with globalization and other aspects mixing in this geographical phenomenon.In this paper,we first describe the concept development of gentri?cation,pointing out that the contemporary concept of gentri?cation has changed from the original view,and classify different gentri?cation phenomena which have emerged in the third stage of the progress;then,we review the China's progress in gentrification research and the achievements;and finally,considering the positive and negative effects which gentrification caused,we give some effective suggestions for urban planning in China.
