Abstract:Our understanding of IPv6 usage is quite limited. In this paper, we carry out a detailed analysis of Netflow records collected from a China Tier-1 ISP. Many aspects related to traffic attributes and deployment issues are investigated: application types, transitional technologies, interface identifier assignment schemes, etc. Dominating of video streaming and P2P traffic as well as the widely use of random identifiers for privacy are most peculiar characteristics in China's IPv6 networks. To have a better understanding of how IPv6 network is used, we studied users' behavior from several perspectives, such as the traffic volume produced by each user, number of applications he uses and the frequency he uses IPv6 networks. Results show that IPv6 is only effectively used by a small fraction of the users. On the whole, our study suggests that from our vantage point, China's IPv6 network is in the transitional phase from the initial experimental period to practical application. ©2009 IEEE.

Abstract:IPv6 has been accepted as the protocol for the next generation Internet,and transition from current network to IPv6 network is becoming a popular research topic.There has been a large amount investment on the current Internet based on IPv4 protocol,how to smoothly transit to IPv6 is a very important problem.This paper makes a survey on the studies of IPv6 transition.The technologies proposed for IPv6 transition are summarized,and how to make IPv6 transition in different scenarios is compared and analyized.Then the security issue in the IPv6 transition is discussed.Also a future pespection for IPv6 transition is made,from the viewpoint of network topology and the viewpoint of layers of protocols,and directions for future research are discussed.

Abstract:IPv6 comprises multiple advanced network technologies and outdoes the current IPv4 with significant advantages,however it takes long to replace IPv4 with IPv6.The key to a successful IPv6 transition is its compatibility with the large installed base of IPv4 users,applications,hosts,routers and devices. To remain compatible with IPv4 in the deployment of IPv6 will streamline the task of IPv6 transition in the Internet.In this paper,we introduce the background of IPv6 transition, analyze and present the strengths and weaknesses of different transition mechanisms and technologies in detail,classify and compare them as well as their applications.With CNGI context,we discussed the inter-network of IPv4 network based on IPv6 backbone.In the end,future trend of possible research on transition mechanisms and technologies is discussed.

Abstract:IPv4 addresses are already depleted in IANA and will be soon exhausted in RIR while more clients are pouring into the Internet. IPv6, as the only available next generation Internet protocol, is still not commercially successful because a scheme that could solve the migration of IPv4 resources to IPv6 network, as well as mutual communication between the two incompatible protocols, has not been fully developed and deployed. Translation solution provides a proper approach to address this problem. In this article, we propose IVI, an IPv4/IPv6 translation scheme, in order to facilitate resource migration and protocol transition. We explain how it works to translate between IPv4 and IPv6, and how combinations of IVI flavours and various translation scenarios are used in each phase of transition. The evaluation of scalability and robustness, which is important to a widely deployed translation scheme, is also discussed.

Nowadays, Tunnel Broker and 6to4 tunnel mechanisms are the popular solutions for this problem. This paper proposes a multilioming based algorithm MI46 to integrate Tunnel Broker and 6to4 tunnel mechanism. Abstract:IPv6 transition presents many challenges to the Internet community, and various solutions have been proposed, including dual stack, tunneling, and translation. Tunneling supports "like-to-like" IP connectivity across an "unlike" network, whereas translation supports "like-to-unlike" IP interconnectivity. No overarching strategy exists to address all possible scenarios. Because tunneling can keep the end-to-end model that the Internet is built on, the authors have developed a tunnel-based framework that solves the transition problems in backbone and access networks with different tunneling mechanisms.

Abstract:This paper focuses on issues with key techniques in IPv6 transition for next-generation Internet. In this paper,we propose a 4over6 softwire tunneling mechanism. We propose different 4over6 softwire tunneling technologies for the backbone and access networks. These technologies are used to create a unified tunneling transition system and satisfy the requirements for IPv6 transition across the whole network. Smooth IPv6 transition can be achieved using mechanisms such as heterogeneous routing separation and transport in the backbone,dynamic self-adaptation and heterogeneous access in the access network,and transparent automatic tunneling.

Abstract:In order to smoothly transit the IPv4 internet to IPv6, some related network transiting mechanisms[J] were developed, which basically put emphasize on the co-existence of IPv4 and IPv6 network while transiting. However, the most significant problem preventing common user from trying and adopting IPv6 is that many kind of now-existing software take no support of IPv6, especially those used in some special area which has been used and tested for years. This brings a rather high cost and risk in the software transiting. Abstract:Along with the development of IPv6, native IPv6 networks will begin to appear. It would be helpful if we can provide an effective mechanism for existing IPv4- only applications to work in those native IPv6 networks. In this paper, we analyze the problems of some current transition methods, and present a new mechanism based on Tunnels-Between-Hosts. Our strategy is to provide the IPv4-only application with a temporary IPv4 "virtual address", which is negotiated directly between two communicating hosts using IPv6. We give a detailed description of our mechanism and compare it with some other mechanisms.

Abstract:Based on the upgrade of IPv6 technology and demonstration project on the China Next Generation Internet (CNGI-CERNET2) infrastructure, this paper designs a deployment plan for the 4over6 transition system deployed in large scale in pure IPv6 backbone and one hundred universities. This technology has taken into consideration the requirements of SPs with slight modification of the Backbone. The technology has high scalability. It is easy to configure the 4over6-supported equipment and cost little to maintain the equipment. And it doesn't waste the original investment to the network infrastructure. The system supports redundancy backup, which makes it reliable. Besides, it can realize IPv4 connection across IPv6 networks and support classic IPv4 applications like WEB, P2P etc. This deployment plan provides solid support for the transition of backbone.
