Land use changes and its human factors in Urumqi River Basin since 1949

Abstract:We carried out qualitative and quantitative analysis of land use changes of Urumqi River Basin since 1949.We also discussed the main human factors affecting land use changes.From 1949 to 1980s,the area of construation land increased and large area of unused land was reclaimed.From 1980s to 1990s,the farmland kept decreasing.The area of forested land increased in some extent but mainly recovering to sparse woodland.In the meantime,the area of construation land increased.From 1990s to 2004,farmland kept decreasing,but garden plot and construation land increased.There were four human factors driving land use changes:population,policy,social economy and urbanization.But the dominant factors varied in each period.In the period before 1980s,policy was the dominant factor.From 1980s to1990s,population was the main factor.New the four factors all affecting land use changes.
