Abstract:Neural leucine-rich repeat(NLRR)protein family is an evolutionarily conversed typeⅠ transmembrane protein family with diverse functions.NLRR proteins are mainly expressed in the nervous system, and weakly expressed in the lung, heart, liver, kidney.Since Taguchi et al found the novel LRR proteins mNLRR-1 and mNLRR-2 in the mouse nervous system in 1996,a series of NLRR proteins with the similar structure were found in mice, rat,Xenopus,Zebrafish and human. All of the members of NLRR family have high similarity and shares some common protein domains, such as leucine-rich repea(tLRR),amino-flanking region(AFR),carboxy-flanking region(CFR),immunoglobulin-like C2 type domain(IgC2) and fibronectin type Ⅲ-like domain(FNⅢ).It has been well demonstrated that NLRRs play a vital role in neuronal development and regeneration as cell adhesion molecules or ligand receptor molecules. The spatiotemporal expression patterns, structures and main biofunctions of NLRR are reviewed.
