Abstract:In order to maintain its leading role in the intensive international competition and extensive social changes,Oxford University has explored a series of major reforms upholding the principle of "academic excellence" and "collegiate self-governance" over the past 40 years.The 2004-06 Oxford governance reform may be regarded as a severe tension between academic and administrative power in modern university governance.It spurs other universities to reflect upon their own governance as well as the nature and future of university.This study examines the background,process,characteristics and impact of the Oxford governance reform.
