The protective effects of melatonin on injury of pheochromocytoma (PC12) cells induced by Aβ25-35

Abstract:Objective To study the protective effects of melatonin(MT) on injury of pheochromocytoma(PC12) cells induced by amyloid β(Aβ25-35) protein.Methods Cultured PC12 cells were divided into normal control group,Aβ group(treated by Aβ25-35) and MT group(added with MT 2 h before treated by Aβ25-35).Morphological observation,MTT assays,LDH assays and were used to observe the protective effects of MT.The level of Bcl-2 in PC12 cells was detected by Western blot method.Results Morphological observation showed cell number was more and less rounded injured cells in MT group than those in Aβ group.LDH activity was less(P<0.01),OD was significantly higher(P<0.01) in MT group than those in Aβ group.Western blot showed Bcl-2 expression in Aβ group was higher than that in control group,but was lower than that in MT group.Conclusions MT could play the protective role in PC12 cells injury induced by Aβ25-35.
