Abstract:A new method for the determination of diazepam was proposed based on its polarographic catalytic wave in the presence of persulfate. In 0.20M NaAc–HAc (pH 4.7)–2.0×10−2M K2S2O8 supporting electrolyte, the reduction wave of diazepam with peak potential −0.89V (versus SCE) was catalyzed, producing a parallel catalytic wave. The peak current of the catalytic wave was 15 times higher than that of the corresponding reduction wave for 4.0×10−6M diazepam, and was rectilinear to diazepam concentration in the range of 5.6×10−8 to 8.8×10−6 and 8.8×10−6 to 2.0×10−4M. The detection limit was 9.6×10−9M. The mechanism of the parallel catalytic wave of diazepam was discussed.

Abstract:Polarographic catalytic wave of chlordiazepoxide in the presence of K2S2O8 was studied in aqueous and DMF/H2O mixed solutions. The results showed that a single reduction wave in alkaline medium was the reduction of the N = C bond in 1, 2-position of chlordiazepoxide via an intermediate free radical in two one-electron successive additions. When K2S2O8 was present, the free radical of the N = C bond was oxidized to regenerate the original, producing a parallel catalytic wave of chlor diazepoxide. It was determined that the apparent rate constant k(f) of the oxidation reaction was 3.2 x 10(3) mol(-1). L . s(-1). Using the catalytic wave the trace of chlordiazepoxide can be determined by linear-potential scan polarography. In NH3/NH4Cl (pH 10.2 +/- 0. 1, 0.12 mol/L) / K2S2O8 (0. 016 mol/L) supporting electrolyte, the second-order derivative peak current of the catalytic wave was rectilinear to chlordiazepoxide concentration in the range of 3.20 x 10(-8)-1. 60 x 10(-7), 1. 60 x 10(-7)-1.44 x 10(-6) and 1.44 x 10(-6)-1.44 x 10(-1) mol/L, respectively. The limit of detection was 9.0 x 10(-9) mol/L.

Abstract:The polarographic catalytic wave of vitamin P in the presence of persulfate was studied by linear potential scan polarography and cyclic voltammetry. Vitamin P yielded a single reduction wave in acidic aqueous solution, which was ascribed to a 2e−, 2H+ reduction of the carbonyl group in the C-4 position. Actually, the carbonyl group CO first underwent a 1e−, 1H+ reduction to form a neutral free radical, and the further 1e−, 1H+ reduction of the free radical was simultaneous with its following chemical reactions. When S2O2−8 was present, the free radical of vitamin P was oxidized by both S2O2−8 and its reduction intermediate, the sulfate radical anion SO•−4, to regenerate the original, which resulted in the production of a polarographic catalytic wave of vitamin P. Based on this catalytic wave, a novel method for the determination of vitamin P was proposed. In 0.02 M tartaric acid–sodium tartrate (pH 3.3) buffer containing 5.0 × 10−3 M K2S2O8, the peak potential of the catalytic wave was −1.42 V (vs SCE) and the peak current was rectilinear to the vitamin P concentration in the range of 8.0 × 10−9–1.0 × 10−6 M (r = 0.9994, n = 13). The catalytic wave of 2.0 × 10−7 M vitamin P enhanced the polarographic current 70 times compared with the corresponding reduction wave. The detection limit was 2.0 × 10−9 M, and the relative standard deviation at the 2.0 × 10−7 M level was 0.7% (n = 15). The proposed method was used for the determination of vitamin P content in the pharmaceutical preparation of tablets and the medicinal plant Sophora japonica L. without previous separation.
Determination of Methanol Based on Polarographic Reduction Wave of Methanol Radical

Abstract:A new method for determination of methanol was proposed on the base of the polarographic reduction wave of methanol radical HC ·HOH . In 0.033 mol/L KH 2PO 4+ Na 2HPO 4 (pH 6.1±0 1) +1 6×10 -2 mol/L K 2S 2O 8 solution, the first order derivative peak current of the reduction wave for methanol was proportional to its concentration in the range of 3.15×10 -4 mol/L～9.46×10 -3 mol/L. This method was used to determine methanol content in air samples of methanol manufactory.

Abstract:A new analytical method for the determination of uric acid (UA) by the perturbation of UA on the Belousov-Zhabotinsky oscillating reaction is proposed. The method is based on the linear relationship between the changes in the oscillating period and the concentration of UA. The calibration curve is linear over the range of 2.0 x 10(-5) to 5.0 x 10(-4)M, with a detecting limit of 3.28 x 10(-6)M. The method features good precision (R.S.D.: 3.59%) and excellent throughput (10samplesh(-1)). The possible mechanism of the perturbation of UA on the oscillating reaction is discussed.

This method can provide novel alternatives for the indirect systems based on KR and sensitive atom spectroscopy to establish a series of novel methods for determination of environmental pollutants in natural waters.

Abstract:Persulfate-based heterogeneous catalytic oxidation systems have attracted increasing interests in water pollution control field. Sulfate/hydroxyl radical, singlet oxygen, and catalyst-mediated electron transfer are commonly recognized to be responsible for the organic pollutant removal. However, reliable quantitative methods for detecting reactive oxygen species (ROS) are still lacking to clarify their contribution to the reaction mechanism. In this work, a soluble probe, 9,10-Anthracenediyl-bis (methylene)-dimalonic acid, which is sensitive to both sulfate/hydroxyl radical and singlet oxygen, was developed to semi-quantify the ROS in persulfate-based catalytic oxidation systems. The detection results reveal the predominant catalyst-mediated electron transfer mechanism, rather than the ROS mechanism, and its universality in several representative heterogeneous catalytic systems (i.e., FeMnO, CNT, Mn3O4, and biochar catalyzing peroxymonosulfate and peroxydisulfate for organic pollutant degradation). Compared with the electron paramagnetic resonance detection with DMPO and TEMP as spin-trapping agents and quenching effects of ROS by alcohol, furfuryl alcohol, and L-histidine, such a semi-quantitative detection method exhibits simplicity and improved reliability in mechanism elucidation. This semi-quantitative method plays a vital role in clarifying the reaction mechanism in persulfate-based heterogeneous catalytic oxidation systems, which might open a door for the optimization and regulation of catalytic oxidation water purification technology.

Abstract:The sulphur phosphorous hydrolysised by alkaline,in the solution of 0.01mol/L NaOH,it appeared a sensitive derivative polarograph of JP-2 after cathodic scanning with the starting potential at-0.30V.The peak potential was at-0.53V(VS,SCE).The peak current was linearly proportional to the concentration of sulphur phosphorous at the rang of 0~1.6μg/mL.The wave was distinct and the repeatability was good.This method was rapid,handy and sensitive.It could be used in the determination of the sulphur phosphorous remain in vegetable,fruit and grain.We probed into electrode reaction and reaction mechanism preliminarily.After hydrolysis,polarographic of sulphur phosphorous belonged to hydrogen catalytic wave in NaOH.The standard deviation coefficient of variation recovery and linear correlation were 3.1420,4.243,0.9985 and 99.75%.

Abstract:Hydroxyl radical (OH) is the dominant oxidation agent in the atmosphere due to its high reactivity. OH plays a decisive role in the degradation of primary air pollutants and the formation of secondary air pollutants (e.g., SOA and O3). For the same reason, OH atmospheric abundance is extremely low, and its atmospheric measurement usually presents a challenging job. In this work, we have developed a new method to detect OH radicals using chemical ionization mass spectrometry (CIMS). The working principle of the new method is that OH was first completely converted into gaseous sulfuric acid (SA) and was then detected by a nitrate-CIMS. Potential interference from ambient SA and other reactive intermediates, such as Criegee Intermediates (CIs), was also dealt with by introducing free radical scavengers. A high-resolution time-of-flight mass spectrometer was also used to explore potential isotopic interferences. The new instrument was calibrated with artificially generated SA standards, quantified with the N2O-actinnometry. A field test was conducted in the Summer of 2023. The results demonstrated that OH concentration ranged from a few 106 molecules cm-3 up to ~2×107 molecules cm-3, basically in line with OH level reported in other areas of China. The ambient SA level was significantly lower than OH, likely due to the high condensation loss near the ground surface. These observation results were further verified by a master chemical mechanism (MCM) box model simulation.

Abstract:Indirect determination of total acid-soluble aluminum in natural waters by oscillopolarography in the presence of pyrocatechol violet ( PCV) is presented. In 0.5 mol/L NH4Ac buffer solution (pH 6.4) containing 1 x 10(-3) mol/L PCV, PCV yields two incisions on the dE/dt-E oscillogram at the potentials of -0.80 and -1.20 V. The incision depth (E-p = -1.20 V) declines when adding Al in the solution. The decreases of incision depth shows a linear relationship with increasing Al concentrations (4 x 10(-7) similar to 4 x 10(-6) mol/L). It is the basis of indirect quantitative analysis. The relative standard deviation is 8.3% for 1 x 10(-6) mol/L Al (n = 10) and the detection limit is 2 x 10(-7) mol/L. The proposed method has been applied to determine total acid-soluble Al in natural waters and compared with the results obtained by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometric method.

Abstract:n a 0.1mol/L formate buffer solution(pH3.3) containing 3.610-3mol/L VOSO4 and 6.010-5mol/L 3,4dihydroxybenzoic acid(DHBA),a sensitive polarographic adsorptive catalytic wave of tin()DHBA complex has been obtained by using singlesweep polarography .The peak potential appears at -0.52V (vs.SCE).The secondorder derivative peak height is proportional to the concentration of Sn() over the range from 3.410-10 to 5.110-7mol/L.The limit of detection for Sn() is as low as 210-10mol/L.The properties of the catalytic wave and the mechanism of the electrode reaction have been studied.The method has been successfully applied to the determination of Sn() in canned foods with satisfactory results.
[Polarographic catalytic wave of clarithromycin and its applications]

Abstract:Aim: To develop a new method for the determination of clarithromycin. Methods: The catalytic wave of clarithromycin in the presence of K2S2O8 was used for improving the analytical sensitivity. The rapid determination of clarithromycin has been carried out by linear single sweep polarography. Results: The reduction wave of clarithromycin appeared at ca. -0.79 V (vs SCE) in 0.24 mol x L(-1) KH2PO4-Na2HPO4 (pH 6.81) supporting electrolyte, which was ascribed to the reduction of carbonyl group on C-9 position. In the presence of 0.01 mol x L(-1) K2S2O8, the reduction wave was catalyzed to produce a parallel catalytic wave. The peak current of the catalytic wave was ca. Twenty times higher than that of the corresponding reduction wave. Based on the catalytic wave, a new method for the determination of clarithromycin has been proposed. The peak current of the catalytic wave was rectilinear to clarithromycin concentration in the range of 4.0 x 10(-7)-5.0 x 10(-5) mol x L(-1). The detection limit was 2.0 x 10(-7) mol x L(-1). Conclusion: The proposed method could be used for the direct determination of clarithromycin in pharmaceuticals and urine without preliminary separation.
Rapid Determination of Lipid Peroxidation Using a Novel Pyridoxamine-Participating Ferrous Oxidation-Sulfosalicylic Acid Spectrophotometric Method.

Abstract:A novel method is developed to rapidly analyze lipid peroxidation in edible oils and fatty foods at room temperature, which is called the pyridoxamine-participating ferrous oxidation-sulfosalicylic acid (PFOS) method. The PFOS method evaluates the lipid peroxide value colorimetrically via detecting the pyridoxamine-mediated pigment produced by 5-sulfosalicylic acid and Fe(3+) at 500nm, while the latter is converted from Fe(2+) in the presence of lipid peroxides. The optimized formulation was ethanol (70%, v/v), Fe(2+) (4mmol/L), 5-sulfosalicylic acid (40mmol/L) and pyridoxamine (18mmol/L). The limit of quantitation is 0.087mmol Fe(3+)/L with acceptable reproducibility. In addition, current method has a significant linear correlation with both conventional thiobarbituric acid (R(2)=0.9999) and ferric thiocyanate assays (R(2)=0.9675). This method offers a rapid technique for evaluating lipid peroxidation without heating and sophisticated instrumental procedures. Besides, current method provides a new option to evaluate the lipid peroxidation state and improve the reproducibility of ferrous-oxidation.

Abstract:Recently, peroxymonosulfate (PMS)-based advanced oxidation processes have exhibited broad application prospects in the environment field. Accordingly, a simple, rapid, and ultrasensitive method is highly desired for the specific recognition and accurate quantification of PMS in various aqueous solutions. In this work, SO4 center dot--induced aromatic hydroxylation was explored, and based on that, for the first time, a novel fluorescence method was developed for the PMS determination using Co2+ as a PMS activator and benzoic acid (BA) as a chemical probe. Through a suite of spectral, chromatographic, and mass spectrometric analyses, SO4 center dot- was proven to be the dominant radical species, and salicylic acid was identified as the fluorescent molecule. As a result, a whole radical chain reaction mechanism for the generation of salicylic acid in the BA/PMS/Co2+ system was proposed. This fluorescence method possessed a rapid reaction equilibrium (<1 min), an ultrahigh sensitivity (detection limit = 10 nM; quantification limit = 33 nM), an excellent specificity, and a wide detection range (0-100 mu M). Moreover, it performed well in the presence of possible interfering substances, including two other peroxides (i.e., peroxydisulfate and hydrogen peroxide), some common ions, and organics. The detection results for real water samples further validated the practical utility of the developed fluorescence method. This work provides a new method for the specific recognition and sensitive determination of PMS in complex aqueous solutions.
An induction current method for determining the critical micelle concentration and the polarity of surfactants

Abstract:A novel and simple method of determining both the critical micelle concentration (CMC) and polarities of ionic surfactants at the same time is presented in this paper. This method is based on the dependence of electrical potential at the liquid-air interface on the aggregation of the surfactant. When the measuring electrode contacts the liquid-air interface, the difference between the electrical potential of the electrode surface and the electrical potential of the liquid-air interface generates an electrical current through an electrical circuit. The dependences of the magnitudes of the measured signals on the concentrations of sodium dodecyl sulfate and hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide were measured. The results show that the magnitude of the measured signal increases with the increasing surfactant concentration before it reaches to the CMC. The signal magnitude remains constant after the CMC. The value of CMC can be determined from the intersection point of the two lines before and after CMC. The CMC values calculated with this method are in good agreement with those reported in the reference papers. The experimental results also show that the directions of the signals generated by anionic and cationic surfactants are in opposite direction, which can be used to determine the polarities of the surfactants. The method described in this paper provides a simple and reliable tool to determine the CMC value and the polarity of ionic surfactants.

Abstract:Using morin firstly as a complexing agent, a new polarographic adsorptive catalytic method for trace vanadium determination was proposed based on the catalytic cycle consisting of electrochemical reduction of vanadium(V) ion in vanadium-morin complex and synchronous chemical oxidation of the reduced product by bromate. Abstract:In Na 2B 4O 7-H 3BO 3 buffer solutions£̈pH 7.8£©, cobalt (II) react with dimethylglyoxime (DMG) to form a complex which appears a polarographic wave with peak potential -1.17 V (vs. SCE). When K 2S 2O 8 was added, the peak height was increased. The scond-order derivative peak current of the catalytic wave was linear to Co (II) concentration in the range of 8.0¡Á10 -10-5.0¡Á10 -6 mol/L. The detection limit was 5.0¡Á10 -10mol/L. The mechanism of the polarographic catalytic wave was studied, and results show that this wave is an adsorptive parallel catalytic wave. The method has been applied to determine cobalt (II) in urine¡¢tap water and VB 12. The results are satisfied. Copyright CJI.
A new electrochemical sensor for OH radicals detection

Abstract:A new, cheap modified electrode for indirect detection of OH radical is described. A glassy carbon (GC) electrode was modified with a polyphenol film prepared by oxidative potentiostatic electropolymerization of 0.05 M phenol in 1M H2SO4. The film having a thickness of ~10nm perfectly covered the GC surface and inhibited the charge transfer of many redox species. The degradation of the polyphenol film, that was induced by OH radicals generated by Fenton reaction or by H2O2 photolysis, is the analytical signal and it was evaluated by cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry using the redox probe Ru(NH3)6(3+). Some simulations of the kinetics of the reactions occurring in the solution bulk and near the electrode surface were carried out to fully understand the processes that lead to the analytical signal. The modified electrode was used to evaluate the performances of different TiO2-based photocatalysts and the results were successfully compared with those obtained from a traditional HPLC method that is based on the determination of the hydroxylation products of salicylic acid.

Abstract:Sulphate radical-based advanced oxidation processes (SR-AOPs) have gained considerable popularity in the fields of organic contaminant degradation and industrial wastewater treatment. However, there are few reports focusing on study and application of such promising technology in determination or online monitoring of chemical oxygen demand (COD) in water quality. Herein, a novel determination method of COD based on photoactivated SR-AOPs and barium sulphate turbidimetry is proposed, in which, sulphate radicals (SO 4 •- ) are mainly responsible for the digestion of organic pollutants, not hydroxyl radicals ( • OH). For improving the precision and accuracy of this determination method, all the parameters affecting on the digestion and detection were investigated. Performance verification results showed that this method has a good linearity (R 2 = 0.9988), precision (2.26%), accuracy (0.43%) and low method detection limit (2.4431 mg/L) within a range of 5~200 mg/L, under the optimised process conditions.
