The Impact of Internet on Social Relations:Some Disputations and Trends

Abstract:The paper attempts to analyze the current researches of social relations on computer-mediated communication(CMC) from three aspects.Firstly,some people concern that whether or not CMC can generate persistent interpersonal relations generally.Secondly,are the relations "moving away" or "extending" day life social relations.Finally,the thesis summarizes some researches on the quality of these relations.CMC can give rise to highly trust,reciprocity and broadly supportive social relations.But these relationships do not necessarily "move away" or "extend" day life relations.While CMC tend to bring weak ties,it do not prevent from generating strong ties.Further researches can pay attention to dynamic evolution of social relation on CMC,nature and structure of these social networks,and their impacts on production and reproduction of social capital,etc.
