Abstract:MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a growing class of small RNAs (about 22 nt) that play crucial regulatory roles in the genome by targeting mRNAs for cleavage or translational repression. In this paper, we briefly introduced the background of miRNAs. We show that the non-conserved miRNAs in the genome is one of the keys to understand the evolution of these small molecules by comparing closely-related species. Our result suggests that some miRNAs are subject to rapid adaptive changes, which shed new light on the function and evolution of non-coding genes.
