Firms’ Spanning-Region,Work-Dividing of Industrial Clusters,and the Transformation of Industrial Clusters

Abstract:The intrinsic dual characters of network structure, with the change of environment, may bring lock-in risk for industrial clusters and block the adjustment of regional industrial structure. Based on the phenomenon of firms’ spanning-region strategies, in the guidance of industry transfer theories, Neo-space economics and industrial clusters theories, we suppose that firms’ spanning-region can extend the range of industrial clusters from single-region traditionally to multi-region, simultaneously fulfilling the work-dividing among industrial clusters. We point out that this process may promote the industrial clusters’ transformation and upgrading, and discuss its rationality and different patterns. At the macro-view, the more integrative region economies are, the more possible for work dividing between regions come true.
