When applied to $\epem\to t\anti t+$Higgs production at $\rts=1\tev$ and integrated luminosity of $200\fbi$, we find that the $t\anti t\to$Higgs CP-even and CP-odd couplings and, to a lesser extent, the $ZZ\to$Higgs (CP-even) coupling can be extracted with reasonable errors, assuming the Higgs sector parameter choices yield a significant production rate. Indeed, the composition of a mixed-CP Higgs eigenstate can be determined with sufficient accuracy that a SM-like CP-even Higgs boson can be distinguished from a purely CP-odd Higgs boson at a high level of statistical significance, and vice versa.

Abstract:Determining the $CP$ property of the Higgs boson is important for a precision test of the Standard Model as well as for the search for new physics. We propose a novel jet substructure observable based on the azimuthal anisotropy in a linearly polarized gluon jet that is produced in association with a Higgs boson at hadron colliders, and demonstrate that it provides a new $CP$-odd observable for determining the $CP$ property of the Higgs-top interaction. We introduce a factorization formalism to define a polarized gluon jet function with the insertion of an infrared-safe azimuthal observable to capture the linear polarization.

Abstract:In a general two-Higgs-doublet model with CP violation in the Higgs sector, the three neutral physical Higgs bosons have no definite CP properties. A new sum rule relating Yukawa and Higgs-Z couplings implies that a neutral Higgs boson cannot escape detection at an e^+e^- collider if it is kinematically accessible in Z+Higgs, $b\bar b+$Higgs and $t\bar t+$Higgs production, irrespective of the mixing angles and the masses of the other neutral Higgs bosons. The implications of the sum rules for Higgs discovery at the Tevatron and LHC are briefly mentioned.

Abstract:After the Higgs boson discovery, a main focus at the CERN LHC has been the measurement of its properties. Observing the Higgs boson associated production with a top quark-antiquark pair ($\mathrm{t\bar{t}H}$) is particularly interesting because it provides tree-level access to measuring the Higgs boson-top quark Yukawa coupling. However, the production of a single top quark in association with the Higgs boson ($\mathrm{tH}$) is also sensitive to the sign of this coupling. This coupling is essential for the stability of the Higgs potential at high energy scales and can also be a probe for physics beyond the standard model (SM). The latest measurements of the $\mathrm{t\bar{t}H}$ and $\mathrm{tH}$ associated production rates performed by the CMS Collaboration with proton-proton collision events at $\sqrt{s} =13$ TeV in the diphoton and multilepton channels are presented here. Events are categorized according to the lepton and jet multiplicities, and multivariate classifiers are used to distinguish signal from background processes. The results are consistent with the SM predictions and feature the first observation of $\mathrm{t\bar{t}H}$ production in a single Higgs boson decay channel along with the first tests of its CP structure.

Abstract:We demonstrate that the process $e^+e^-\to t\anti t h$ at the NLC provides a powerful tool for extracting the $t\anti t$ (Yukawa) couplings of the $\h$. In combination with the $\epem\to Z\h$ process, an accurate determination of the $ZZ$ coupling of the $\h$ is also possible. The resulting ability to distinguish different models of the Higgs sector is illustrated by detailed studies for two-Higgs-doublet models.

Abstract:We examine the detection of the intermediate-mass Higgs (IMH) boson at the CERN LHC through the associate production channel pp\ensuremath{\rightarrow}tt\ifmmode\bar\else\textasciimacron\fi{}HX\ensuremath{\rightarrow}l\ensuremath{\gamma}\ensuremath{\gamma}${\mathit{X}}^{\ensuremath{'}}$. It is shown that by applying kinematic cuts or b tagging on the final state jets, the main backgrounds of W(\ensuremath{\rightarrow}l\ensuremath{\nu})+\ensuremath{\gamma}+\ensuremath{\gamma}+(n-jet) can be reduced substantially without significant loss of signals. It is possible to detect the IMH boson at the LHC through the pp\ensuremath{\rightarrow}tt\ifmmode\bar\else\textasciimacron\fi{}HX channel using a modest photon detector with mass resolution \ensuremath{\sim}3% of the photon pair invariant mass. \textcopyright{} 1996 The American Physical Society.

Abstract:Null results from searches for new physics at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) tend to enforce the belief that new particles must be much heavier than the weak scale. We undertake a systematic study of the interplay between Higgs alignment and CP-violation in complex two-Higgs-doublet models, which enables us to construct a CP-violating scenario where new Higgs bosons are close to the weak scale after including stringent constraints from the electric dipole moment and measurements at the LHC. In addition, we propose a novel potential signal of CP-violation in the Higgs-to-Higgs decays, h3→h2h1, where h3, h2, and h1 are the heaviest, second heaviest and the Standard Model-like neutral Higgs bosons, respectively. The decay could manifest itself in triple boson final states in h1h1h1 and h1h1Z, which are quite distinct and provide unique venues for new measurements at the LHC.

Search for $CP$ violation in ttH and tH production in multilepton channels in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV

Abstract:The charge-parity ($CP$) structure of the Yukawa interaction between the Higgs (H) boson and the top quark is measured in a data sample enriched in the $\mathrm{t\bar{t}}$ and tH associated production, using 138 fb$^{-1}$ of data collected in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC. The study targets events where the H boson decays via H $\to$ WW or H $\to$ $\tau\tau$ and the top quarks decay via t $\to$ Wb: the W bosons decay either leptonically or hadronically, and final states characterized by the presence of at least two leptons are studied. Machine learning techniques are applied to these final states to enhance the separation of $CP$-even from $CP$-odd scenarios. Two-dimensional confidence regions are set on $\kappa_\mathrm{t}$ and $\tilde{\kappa}_\mathrm{t}$, which are respectively defined as the $CP$-even and $CP$-odd top-Higgs Yukawa coupling modifiers. No significant fractional $CP$-odd contributions, parameterized by the quantity $\lvert{f_{CP}^{\mathrm{Htt}}}\rvert$ are observed; the parameter is determined to be $\lvert{f_{CP}^{\mathrm{Htt}}}\rvert$ = 0.59 with an interval of (0.24, 0.81) at 68% confidence level. The results are combined with previous results covering the H $\to$ ZZ and H $\to$ $\gamma\gamma$ decay modes, yielding two- and one-dimensional confidence regions on $\kappa_\mathrm{t}$ and $\tilde{\kappa}_\mathrm{t}$, while $\lvert{f_{CP}^{\mathrm{Htt}}}\rvert$ is determined to be $\lvert{f_{CP}^{\mathrm{Htt}}}\rvert$ = 0.28 with an interval of $\lvert{f_{CP}^{\mathrm{Htt}}}\rvert$ $\lt$ 0.55 at 68% confidence level, in agreement with the standard model $CP$-even prediction of $\lvert{f_{CP}^{\mathrm{Htt}}}\rvert$ = 0.

Abstract:In many extensions of the standard model, there exist a few extra Higgs bosons. Suppose a heavy neutral Higgs boson H is discovered at the LHC, one could then investigate CP and $ \mathrm{C}\mathrm{P}\tilde{\mathrm{T}} $ properties of its couplings to a pair of Z bosons through H → ZZ → 4ℓ. We use the helicity-amplitude method to write down the most general form for the angular distributions of the four final-state leptons, which can cover the case of CP-even, -odd, and -mixed state for the Higgs boson. We figure out there are 9 types of angular observables and all the H couplings to Z bosons can be fully determined by exploiting them. A Higgs-boson mass of 260 GeV below the tt threshold is illustrated with full details. With a total of 103 events of H → ZZ → 4ℓ, one can determine the couplings up to 12-20% uncertainties.
Determining the structure of $Hqt$ couplings at the LHC

Abstract:Experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) have found that the Higgs boson discovered in 2012 has properties largely consistent with predictions from the standard model (SM). However, the determination of the couplings of the Higgs boson to various other SM particles is not very precise, and it is possible that future experiments with enhanced accuracy may be able to detect deviations from the SM if any. One category of couplings studied at the LHC is Higgs flavour-changing couplings to a top-quark and a light-quark ($u$ or $c$) combination, which vanishes at tree level in the SM, but could be induced by interactions beyond the SM. Experiments have put a limit on the magnitude of these couplings, only one coupling assumed nonzero at a time. We investigate here to what extent the relative magnitudes of the $Hut$ and $Hct$ couplings and their chirality structure can be determined by means of more detailed kinematics at a future higher-luminosity version of the LHC in the process of $tH$ production. In particular, we find that the top-quark polar-angle distribution in $tH$ production could reveal the relative magnitudes of the $Hut$ and $Hct$ couplings, while the azimuthal distribution of the charged leptons arising from top decay can be used for a determination of the chiral structure of the $Hut$ coupling.

Abstract:A study of the $CP$ properties of the interaction between the Higgs boson and top quarks is presented. Higgs bosons are identified via the diphoton decay channel ($H \rightarrow \gamma\gamma$) and their production in association with a top quark pair ($t\bar{t}H$) or single top quark ($tH$) is studied. The analysis uses 139 fb$^{-1}$ of proton-proton collision data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Assuming a $CP$-even coupling, the $t\bar{t}H$ process is observed with a significance of 5.2 standard deviations. The measured cross section times $H \to \gamma \gamma$ branching ratio is $1.64\;^{+0.38}_{-0.36}\;\text{(stat.)}\;^{+0.17}_{-0.14}\;(\text{sys.})$ fb, and the measured rate for $t\bar{t}H$ is $1.43\;^{+0.33}_{-0.31}\;\text{(stat.)}\;^{+0.21}_{-0.15}\;(\text{sys.})$ times the Standard Model expectation. The $tH$ production process is not observed and an upper limit on its rate of 12 times the Standard Model expectation is set. A $CP$-mixing angle greater (less) than 43 (-43)$^\circ$ is excluded at 95% confidence level.

Abstract:We demonstrate how probes of CP-violating observables in Higgs di-tau decays at prospective future lepton colliders could provide a test of weak scale baryogenesis with significant discovery potential. Measurements at the Circular Electron Positron Collider, for example, could exclude a CP phase larger than $2.9^\\circ$ ($5.6^\\circ$) at 68% (95%) C.L. assuming the Standard Model value for magnitude of the tau lepton Yukawa coupling. Conversely, this sensitivity would allow for a $5\\,\\sigma$ discovery for 82% of the CP phase range $[0,2\\pi)$. The reaches of the Future Circular Collider - ee and International Linear Collider are comparable. As a consequence, future lepton colliders could establish the presence of CP violation required by lepton flavored electroweak baryogenesis with at least $3\\,\\sigma$ sensitivity. Our results illustrate that Higgs factories are not just precision machines but can also make $\\mathcal O(1)$ measurement of the new physics beyond the Standard Model.
Exploring Heavy Higgs Bosons at a 100 TeV Hadron Collider within the Semi-Constrained NMSSM

Abstract:In this study, we explore the detectability of heavy Higgs bosons in the $pp \to b\bar{b}H/A \to b\bar{b}t\bar{t}$ channel at a 100 TeV hadron collider within the semi-constrained Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM). We calculate their production cross sections and decay branching ratios, comparing these with simulation results from existing reference. We focus on the heavy, doublet-dominated CP-even Higgs $H$ and CP-odd Higgs $A$, with mass limits set below 10 TeV to ensure detectability. We find that at a collider with 3 ab$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity, the potential for detecting heavy Higgs bosons varies significantly with their mass and $\tan\beta$. Heavy Higgs bosons below 2 TeV are within the testable range, while those heavier than 7 TeV fall below the exclusion and discovery thresholds, rendering them undetectable. For masses between 2 and 7 TeV, heavy Higgs bosons with $\tan\beta$ less than 20 can be detected, whereas those with $\tan\beta$ greater than 20 are beyond the current discovery or exclusion capabilities.

Abstract:We present the effects of heavy CP-even (H) and CP-odd (A) Higgs bosons on the production cross section of the process $\gamma\gamma$ $\to t\bar{t}$ at the energy around the mass poles of the Higgs bosons. It is found that the interference between H and A with the small mass gap, as well as the ones between Higgs bosons and the continuum, contributes to the cross section, if the photon beams are polarized and if we observe the helicity of the top quarks. It is demonstrated in the framework of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model that the H and A contributions can be sizable at future $\gamma\gamma$ colliders for small value of $\tan\beta$. The methods to measure the CP-parity of the Higgs boson are also presented. The statistical significances of detecting the Higgs signals and measuring the Higgs CP-parity are evaluated.

Abstract:The detection of a heavy neutral CP-even Higgs boson of the $B-L$ Supersymmetric Standard Model (BLSSM), $h'$, with $m_{h'}\simeq 400~\text{GeV}$, at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) for a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=14~\text{TeV}$, is investigated. The following production and decay channels are considered: $gg\to h'\to{ZZ}\to4\ell$ and $gg\to h'\to{W^+W^-}\to2\ell+\slashed{E}_T$ (with $\slashed{E}_T$ being the Missing~Transverse~Energy~(MET)), where $\ell=e,\mu$, with integrated luminosity $L_{\text{int}}=300~{\text{fb}}^{-1}$ (Run 3). Furthermore, we also look into the di-Higgs channel $gg\to h'\to{hh}\to{b\bar{b}\gamma\gamma}$ at the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) with an integrated luminosity of $L_{\text{int}}=3000~{\text{fb}}^{-1}$. We demonstrate that promising signals with high statistical significance can be obtained through the three aforementioned channels.

Abstract:Unlike other realizations of the 2-Higgs doublet model (2HDM), the so-called type-I allows for a very light Higgs boson spectrum. Specifically, herein, the heaviest of the two CP -even neutral Higgs states, H , can be the one discovered at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in 2012, with a mass of ≈125 GeV and couplings consistent with those predicted by the Standard Model (SM). In such a condition of the model, referred to as "inverted mass hierarchy," the decay of the SM-like Higgs state into pairs of the lightest CP -even neutral Higgs boson, h , is possible, for masses of the latter ranging from MH/2≈65 GeV down to 15 GeV or so, all compatible with experimental constraints. In this paper, we investigate the scope of the LHC in accessing the process gg→H→hh→bb ̄ττ by performing a Monte Carlo (MC) analysis aimed at extracting this signal from the SM backgrounds, in presence of a dedicated trigger choice and kinematic selection. Abstract:In this work, the neutral Higgs boson pair production is analyzed at Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) to be operating at center of mass energies $\sqrt{s}$=1400 GeV (stage 2) and $\sqrt{s}$=3000 GeV (stage 3). The Higgs bosons to be searched for are neutral CP-even (H) and CP-odd (A) within the framework of two Higgs doublet model (2HDM) in the mass range 300 < mH/A < 1000 GeV. All types of the CP-conserving model are studied and the signal observability is evaluated taking into account the main SM background processes like ZZ, tt and the SM-like Higgs boson associated production (hZ). Results are presented for a set of model parameters and Higgs boson masses in terms of signal distributions over the background as well as the integrated luminosity needed for 5{\sigma} discovery. It is shown that the heavy mass region is well observable at CLIC in types 3 (flipped) and 4 (lepton-specific) in the regions not excluded by LHC so far, while in type 1 the signal observation is challenging due to the large jet multiplicity in the tt final state.

Abstract:Processes of the form [Formula: see text] are studied via a technique that may be viewed as an adaptation of time-honored Dalitz plot analyses. Xi and Xj are new heavy states (with i,j = 1…n), which may be identical or distinct; and [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] are necessarily distinct Standard Model (SM) fermion pairs whose invariant masses can be measured. A Dalitz-like plot of said invariant masses, [Formula: see text]vs.[Formula: see text], exhibits a topology connected to the masses and specific decay chains of Xi and Xj. Aside from relatively minor details, observed patterns consist of a collection of box and wedge shapes. This collection is model-dependent: comparison of the observed pattern to the possibilities for a specific model yields information on which new particle pair combinations are actually being produced, information beyond that extractable from conventional one-dimensional invariant mass distributions. The technique is illustrated via application to the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) process [Formula: see text]. Here the heavy states are neutralinos [Formula: see text] (i = 2,3,4) — note [Formula: see text] is excluded — which are produced in gluino/squark [Formula: see text] cascade decay chains. Even with fairly modest expectations for the LHC performance during the first few years, this method still provides substantial insight into the neutralino mass spectrum and couplings if gluino/squark masses are relatively low (≃ 400 GeV).
