Abstract:Objective To determine the value of multi-disciplinary cooperation rescue mode in treating patients with severe multiple trauma. Methods A retrospective analysis was made on 51 patients with severe multiple trauma treated by multi-disciplinary cooperation rescue mode (study group).Another 56 multiple trauma patients treated with the common mode were served as controls. For study group, there were 40 male and 11 female patients with age range of 20-85 years (mean,49.4 years),injury severity score (ISS) of 18-59 points (mean,28.9 points),causes of injury including traffic accidents in 35 patients, high falls in 14 and stab injury in 2,and time interval between injury and hospitalization of 30 minutes-24 hours. For control group, there were 42 male and 14 female patients with age range of 19-94 years (mean,46.7 years),ISS of 18-59 points (mean,29.7 points),causes of injury including traffic accidents in 39 patients, high falls in 16 and stab injury in 1,and time interval between injury and hospitalization of 50 minutes-24 hours. The two groups were comparable in gender, age, causes of injury and ISS (P > 0.05).Length of emergency room stay, specialist waiting time, examination waiting time and length of emergency ICU stay were recorded. Results Study group presented better results in emergency room stay [(11.4 ± 3.3) minutes vs.(22.1 ± 7.1) minutes],specialist waiting time [(15.3 ± 5.1) minutes vs.(40.1 ± 12.5) minutes],examination waiting time [(33.4 ± 10.0) minutes vs.(57.2 ± 21.2) minutes] and emergency ICU stay [(2.2 ± 0.6) days vs.(4.6 ± 1.2)days] compared to control group (all P <0.01).Mortality rate was 7% in control group and was reduced to 2% in experiment group (P < 0.05).Conclusion Multi-disciplinary cooperation rescue mode can reduce the mortality and morbidity of patients with severe multiple trauma.
