Abstract:When planning survivable WDM mesh networks, conventional solutions to provide differentiated reliability under shared risk link group (SRLG) constraints mostly assume explicit knowledge of traffic matrices, and consider the failure probability of a fiber link with single criteria (e.g., the link length). Due to the highly variation of nowadays demand patterns and multiple causes of SRLG failures, it is not only impractical to estimate a full traffic demand matrix, but also inaccurate to describe the SRLG failure condition using the existed algorithms. In this paper, we address differentiated reliable SRLG failure protection in wavelength-division-multiplexing (WDM) mesh networks when the traffic information is not fully available. To solve this problem, we firstly put forward an enhanced SRLG failure probability model to compute the reliability of routes. Based on this model, we then propose a partial SRLG-disjoint protection algorithm using hose uncertain traffic model (ab. hose model) and Valiant load-balancing (VLB) routing scheme. The algorithm tries to make a desirable trade-off between cost efficiency and reliability. Analytical and simulation results show that, compared with 100% SRLG-disjoint protection scheme, our proposed algorithm not only produces a much lower cost budget but also keeps the reliability as high as possible, with just a reasonable compromise on bandwidth. ©2010 IEEE.
