Evolution of Technological Structure of China's Manufactured Exports:Based on the dynamic methods of classification

Abstract:Using the per capita GDP and manufactured exports data of 53 countries from 1985 to 2006,and employing the dynamic methods of classification,this paper explores the technological structure change of Chinese exports in manufactured goods. We find that:(1) The vicissitude of the technological structure of China's manufactured exports still mainly follows the principle of comparative advantage over the past two decades; (2) Although China's technological structure of manufactured exports has significantly been upgraded,China has doesn't get out the situation mainly exporting low-skilled manufactured goods. Based on the structure's evolution rule of manufactured export,we forecast that:In the next period of time,low-tech manufactures share in China's exports will continue to decline; Low-middle-tech manufactures share will not be increased substantially,and even may have a slight drop; Middle and upper-middle-tech manufactures shares will perform well; High-tech manufactures share also will improve,but the possibility of a large increase will be very small. Of course,the road of structural upgrading is not flat,and it's full of challenges.
