Currents status of operation of infection control departments of 201 hospitals

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To understand the current status of setting of hospital infection (infectious) diseases control departments, medical quality control and operation in different grades of hospitals.METHODS The questionnaire was designed to investigate the status of setting of hospital infection (infectious) diseases control departments in 201 hospitals and the baseline data of medical quality control from Jan 1, 2014 to Dec 31, 2014.RESULTS The setting rate of infection control departments was 55.22%, the setting ratios of infection control outpatient department, fever clinic, and diarrhoeal diseases outpatient department were 96.02%, 95.52%, and 93.53%, respectively.Among 111 hospitals, 32.43% were equipped with air conditioning system or purification equipment in wards of infection control department, 21 (18.92%) were set with negative pressure isolation room;75.68% of the hospitals were head by the chief directors who majored in infectious diseases, 87.39% of the hospitals had the head nurses who had intermediate professional titles or above, the hospitals in which the physicians of infection control department received systematic knowledge training of diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases accounted for 61.68%.The average number of physicians in infection control department was 5.62/hospital, the average number of nurses was 8.04/hospital.The physicians aged less than 45 years old accounted for 78.05%, the nurses who has more than 10 years of nursing experience accounted for 62.21%.The patients with notifiable infectious diseases were dominant among the patients who were treated in the infectious diseases control outpatient department and wards, the respiratory system diseases and chronic hepatitis B were the major types of diseases.The average number of patients visiting the infection control outpatient department was 5721.10 case-times per year,510.58 case-times per year in fever clinic, 272.79 case-times per year in diarrhoeal diseases outpatient department;the average number of patients with fever of unknown origin was 1303.96 case-times per year, the average number of discharged patients was 501.33 case-times per year, the average number of patients receiving the consultation in hospital was 317.67 case-times per year, the average number of patients receiving the consultation outside hospital was 7.37 case-times per year.the average length of hospital stay of the discharged patients was 12.84 days, the average cost of the discharged patients was 9346.13 yuan.The average number of the discharged patients of infection control department who had infections was 8.77, The utilization rate of beds was 105.83% in the infection control department, the utilization rate of antibiotics of the hospitalized patients of infection control department was 54.64%, and the microbiological submission rate was 57.69% for antibiotic therapy in the infection control department.CONCLUSION The number of physicians with high academic qualifications and the number of visiting patients vary among the same grade hospitals, and the total number of the physicians who receive the systematic training of knowledge of infectious diseases is small.It is necessary to strengthen the training and increase the times of training.In general, the structure setting is basically reasonable in the different grades of hospitals, the medical quality goes well but needs to be further improved and upgraded.
